ASSESSING PERFORMANCE

A league table is used to measure the relative performance of each

team, using a number of Key Performance Indicators.

The league table is published on the website at the end of each round,

but only shows the total of each team’s KPIs.

THE CHALLENGE

The ENGINUITY 2017 Competition provides management and

leadership training that is relevant and appropriate for construction professionals worldwide.

Participants are given the opportunity to experience the challenges that face their corporate management, and pits them against their

colleagues and peers in a unique business management challenge.

Using a sophisticated computer simulation, competing teams are given the task of

managing a fledgling UK-based global construction business from 2017 onwards.

OVERVIEW

2

STRATEGY AND DECISION MAKING

To grow the business the new management team will need to devise an

effective business strategy, and implement it by making decisions in a number of key areas, including finance, marketing, overheads,

procurement and job progression.

Decisions are made for a period, representing 3 months, or a quarter,

in the real world.

JOBS

There are jobs worldwide in 5 sectors :-

Industrial Building and Commercial

with clients, people and rival competitors globally.

WORLD EVENTS

There are Economic, Political and Environmental

world events that can impact upon the business, such as :-

Reports from the IMF, CBI and other organisations

Currency fluctuations between countries

Shortages of skilled labour in different countries

Brexit and the US election

Civil unrest in the Middle East

Russia-Ukraine gas dispute

Climate variations around the world

WORLD NEWS

Information is critical for re-evaluating business strategy, and to reflect this world news,

based upon current and future world events, is available from ENN, the ENGINUITY NEWS NETWORK.

THE STORY SO FAR

2016: “OPM d.o.o. reign supreme”

The record international field of 229 teams included entrants from the UK, Europe,

Middle East, Asia Pacific and the Americas, emphasising the wide ranging and global appeal of the Enginuity competition.

After the 8 weekly Preliminary Rounds, which took place between March and April, 12 teams qualified for the Final, with the largest sponsor WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff well

represented, along with teams from AECOM, Atkins, Beca, Cundall, Jacobs and Tony Gee and Partners.

The finalists were spread globally, with 6 teams from the UK, 3 from the United States, and 1 each from the United Arab Emirates, India and New Zealand.

With less than 100 points between the finalists, another highly competitive final was in

store.

The final, played over a further 6 rounds, saw lots of ups and downs, but ultimately it was

“OPM d.o.o.” from WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff who deservedly emerged victorious as the ENGINUITY 2016 Champions, but only just with the winning margin being only 24

points.

The members of the winning team, Bogdan Kosanovic, Svetlana Krstic, Milos

Mitrovic, Jelena Jovanovic, Branislav Jelkic, each received a cash prize and personally engraved crystal award.

WHY TAKE PART

5

STAGE 1: THE PRELIMINARY STAGE

This takes place over 8 weekly rounds during March and April.

During the Preliminary Stage, also known as the Early Years, each team competes for

work against a number of 'fictional' rival companies. Each one has their own unique profile and bidding history, and a careful assessment of the opposition is required to

formulate an effective procurement strategy.

STAGE 2: THE FINAL

The leading 12 teams at the end of the Preliminary Stage will be invited to compete in

the final, played over a further 6 rounds during May to determine the 2017 Champions.

During the final the teams compete against each other for not only work, but also the services of project managers. This creates an even more uncertain and pressurized

environment in which the skills and team dynamics formed in the early years are really put to the test.
