CFES Conference on Sustainability in
Engineering 2019
SPONSORSHIP PACKAGEUniversity of Northern British Columbia February 22nd- 24th, 2019
Anna Vu, CSE 2019 Co-Chair Laura Fredrickson, CSE 2019 Co-Chair
The University of Northern British Columbia is proud and excited to host the inaugural year of the Conference on Sustainability in Engineering (CSE). CSE is a new initiative that was established by the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students (CFES) to gather engineering students from across Canada to learn and discuss the applicability of sustainability in engineering. The “Triple Bottom Line” is the theme for CSE 2019. This theme will provide a foundation of knowledge on sustainability, while considering social, economic, and environmental implications. Through educational workshops and discussion, students will become equipped with the knowledge required to tackle challenges related to sustainability. As Canada’s Green University, we take tremendous pride in our sustainable initiatives, and are passionate in sharing our vision and experience with students across Canada to create a sustainable future. Your contribution is a major component in the success of this vision and it demonstrates your organization’s support for creating a sustainable society. It will also allow you to recruit top engineering students from across the country, showcase your organization, as well as build relationships with other industry leaders and experts in sustainability. We are eager to create partnerships with organizations who share similar visions and who encourage the continual advancement of the engineering profession. Thank you for taking the time to consider contributing to the CFES Conference on Sustainability in Engineering. We look forward to further discussing a mutually beneficial partnership with you.
Sincerely,
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”– Albert Einstein

The Conference on Sustainability in Engineering (CSE) is a three-day national conference to educate and engage engineering students on issues of sustainability and how they can tackle it within their engineering career and everyday life. CSE provides a stage for engineering students across Canada to discuss innovative ideas and learn from fellow students and professionals in order to further their understanding of sustainability in the Engineering field.
The objectives of the conference are to be met by providing delegates with the options of becoming a LEED green associate, take part in workshops and discussions led by professionals, network with people who share their passion for creating a sustainable future, and educating students on the basic principles of sustainability, as well as some of the new and innovative concepts used in the industry.
HostingStudent Leaders
CSE will host approximately 80 engineering student leaders from across Canada who are passionate
about sustainability

The Canadian Federation Engineering Students (CFES) is a student-run organization that represents and promotes approximately 81,000 Canadian undergraduate engineering students from 51 undergraduate engineering student societies on a national and international level. The federation is a bilingual organization with the objective of enhancing the student experience by offering opportunities such as conferences to encourage the development of leadership, professional, and ethical skills.
CSE is an initiative to support the CFES’s new stance on sustainability: “The CFES believes that sustainability is an essential consideration in engineering practice, and believes it is necessary to educate and engage its members on issues of sustainability, while also evaluating the sustainability of its own practices.” ry to educate and engage its members on issues of sustainability, while also evaluating the

A LETTER FROM THE DEAN
I am pleased to be able to write a letter of support for the students organizing the Conference on Sustainability in Engineering (CSE) to be held at UNBC in February 2019. This is the first conference from the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students to be organized in this series and it is appropriate that the first CSE is being held at UNBC, Canada’s Green University.
The themes of the CSE in embedding goals of sustainability in Engineering practice aligns with the vision for our current Environmental Engineering program, of which the students in the Environmental Engineering Students Association (EESA) so admirably represent. The conference will give opportunity for Engineering students from across Canada to engage with the values, ideas and implementation of sustainability practices. This event will also give opportunity for UNBC and Prince George to demonstrate a range of current projects such as wood and wood-hybrid tall building c6nstruction technology, the district energy heating system, and the UNBC bioenergy facility.
Prince George and UNBC will be hosting apporximatley 100 engaged early career Engineering students who will not only be able to learn about a range of sustainability practices but also experience the local environment and opportunities presented for building local, regional and national businesses in embedding sustainability practices and developing technologies in these areas.
On behalf of the College of Science and Management at UNBC I am pleased to be a Gold-level Sponsor of the CSE and encourage others to participate in this exciting event.
