ENG 3U0 Summative Persuasive Speech Assignment

In this assignment, which is worth 10 per cent of your final mark, you will usethe power of words to intrigue, educate, and persuade us to thinkyourway.Your task is to write and deliver a persuasive speech to an audience of yourteacher and peers.

Topic: A current educational issue of your choice, to be

approved by your teacher

Timing: 4-5 minutes (Penalties will be given for speeches below the minimumrequirement; speeches

will be cut off after 5 min 10 sec.)

Content: Build your speech around a clear point of view. Support withlogical arguments and also refute counter-arguments. Yourpersuasive speech must also include at least ONE example ofEACH of the following stylistic devices:

Allusion

Anecdote Figurative language such as metaphor, personification, or simile

Parallel sentence structure

Quotation (from famous person)

Repetition (for effect)

Statistic or expert testimony (from a reputable source, cited)

SubmissionFormat: Submit one hard copy of your speech, with one example of each

of the above stylistic devices highlighted and labelled, on orabove the absolute deadline. Also include all process work(research notes, drafts, etc.) to show ample evidence that youare the original author of this speech.

Print a second copy of your speech to refer to when you deliverit.

Also submit your speech to www.turnitin.com by the time anddate specified.
