CHOOK ROSTER
As the end of term 4 draws nigh, we are looking for families interested in joining the roster to care for our chickens in the December/January school holidays.
This is probably the most important shift of the year - the inevitable hot weather and the fact that the chooks will miss the children mean they need extra care at this time. If you can swing the hose round the garden, that’s even better.
Your reward for chook care is fabulously fresh eggs daily.
If you can help, lease email us at [email protected] and don’t forget to let us have your available dates.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL –
SEE YOU IN THE GARDEN IN 2017!
COOKING WITH KINDY KIDS
Our entire contingent of kindy kids had their turn at CWK on
11 November 2016. They had fun exploring all
different types of fruit challenging their palates and
showing off their fruit identification skills. Check out the school
newsletters for the fantastic photos.
Friday, 21 October 2016 saw the last of our Stories in the Garden events. Thank you to Strathfield Council and most recently to Prosper, for the generous donations towards covering the costs for the events.

GHOULS IN OUR GARDEN
The Art of
Storytelling
******** Storytelling
is what connects us
to our humanity. In a world
full of ready-made
“content” it has been
interesting to see the children grasp the
skill of visualising
and experiencing
tales recounted to them in the storytelling
sessions.
A big thank you to our team of concreters (guided by the expert
hands of Lorenzo Ramundo) who layed the concrete slab for our new garden shed. It was like watching a
professionally rehearsed ballet. The new shed will provide much
needed storage for gardening equipment and the like.
The school would like to acknowledge Mohan (Advaith &
Arjun’s Dad) for his very generous donation of the garden shed.
A BED FOR OUR SHED
The fairly Long Lunch
This November marks the 7th year of the garden. A small group braved the strong sun, wind and start of season flies to experience a community lunch of epic proportions – the theme this year was family favourites which included Korean noodles, Mexican taco, risotto, slices and magnificent chocolate cake, to name but a few…
It was great to have Ms. Anderson and Mr. Stevens drop by – it’s nice to be able to chat in a more social setting. And the chooks had a fabulous time, roaming free and scrounging for scraps!

The Cooking With Kerry Collection - Cooking Companion
A limited run (50 copies) of our fabulous CWK Collection cookbook will be available for purchase - fingers crossed - on Gala Night. At $20, this unique collection will make an ideal Christmas gift! To pre-order and avoid disappointment, please email us at garden club.
The CWK Collection is a selection of recipes used in the CWK sessions, together with recipes submitted by members of our school community, lightly peppered with lovely photographs taken by our official CWK photographer, Ali.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Our kitchen garden and the idea of having EPS kids cook in it (using ingredients grown in our garden), was the brain child of Kerry Hunt, a former parent of EPS. Subsequent parent groups have continued to nurture the project, such that “Cooking With Kerry” is now an expectation for most kids at EPS. Over the last 18 months, Kerry with the assistance of some volunteer parents has delivered the project to students across all classes from Kindergarten to Year 6
The final result, the CWK Collection, is a labour of love, a vote of thanks and a nod to the importance of gardens and community in the education and wellbeing of our children.
With a project of this magnitude, there are few people who must be acknowledged directly:-
Kerry - for her vision, time, energy and expertise in delivering the CWK sessions
Karen and her team (Cat and Slade) for their astonishing editorial, design and publishing skills
Jeffrey – for his assistance in auditing the photo selection
Natasha – for her tips on making healthier choices which appear in the publication
Anthea, Ali, Ruth, Sonia, Carmel, Angie and Anitha – our tireless volunteer parents who chopped, diced, grated, sautéed, mixed and tossed alongside our next generation of healthy chefs.
The many mums and dads, grandparents, teachers and other community members who have shared their precious recipes
Burwood Council for their generous grant for the Cooking With Kerry Project which has benefited so many in our community
AUSSIE BACKYARD BIRD COUNT
We were surprised by the number
and kinds of birds in our count which
included rainbow lorikeets, ibis,
pigeons, crows, grey minors and
swallows.
