• Drivers:– V7.1 took effect July 2016. – 2019 CEC regulations.– Reviewing definitions and allowances for Enhanced Performance Displays.

• Initial Priorities:– Ensure ENERGY STAR continues to recognize the most energy efficient monitors

as the market shifts in response to regulations from the CEC and EC– Adjust allowances for Enhanced Performance Displays and screen resolution

• Timing:– Draft 1 release is imminent.

Computer Servers

Drivers for Revision• Large amount of SERT data collected, which allows EPA to propose an active state

metric and requirements.

• Desire to increase stringency of PSU requirements (80 Plus Platinum equivalent).– Over 60% of V2 certified products already meet Platinum equivalent levels.

• Desire to increase stringency of idle state requirements as well as APA idle requirements.

Version 3.0 Update• Draft 2 was released in August 2017.

– Added active efficiency requirements. – Updated scope and power supply criteria.

• Stakeholder meetings took place in January 2018 and March 2018:– Discussed the possibility of ENERGY STAR removing the idle requirements for

active-only requirements. – Discussed how SERT testing incorporates idle. – Discussed updating the resilient server definition.

• EPA anticipates a Draft 3 release in early April. – Will incorporate SERT V2.0.0 scoring to set active requirements.

Imaging Equipment Version 3.0

Version 3.0 Snapshot• Drivers: Market share 100% MFDs, last revision completed 2013• Specification release is imminent.

– Updates test method to propose incorporation of Professional Products.

– Removes stand-alone fax machines and copiers from scope. – Amends criteria for imaging products. – Maintains updates to paper usage assumptions. – Removes test method changes for network activity.

Timeline for Version 3.0 Development

• February 2017: Discussion document• August 2017: Draft 1 Test Method Released• March 2018: Draft 1 Specification, Draft 2 Test Method released

Recently Completed Specifications

Key Changes in Computers Version 7.01. Amended energy efficiency criteria for notebooks,

slates/tablets, and thin clients. 2. Amended power supply requirements for those

products with a rated output of 500 Watts and above.

3. Removed small-scale servers from scope. 4. Updated language for products looking to use the

Full Network Connectivity mode weightings.

Version 7.1

• Mobile workstations. o Received stakeholder feedback to develop

separate criteria for mobile workstations. o EPA agreed to consider in a V7.1, with TEC

requirements, if data on energy consumption is received.

• Anticipated timeline is late spring/summer 2018, but may vary depending on when data is received.

Version 8.01. Development of desktop, integrated desktop, and

workstation criteria. 2. Development of new categorization system. 3. Consider amendments to power supply

requirements, including potential low-load power supply reporting.

4. Anticipated timeline:a. Discussion Document: Q4, 2018 b. Draft 1, Version 8.0: January 2019.

a. Looking to collect data on desktop computers this year for use in dataset.

Key Changes in UPS Version 2.0

1. Amended energy efficiency criteria all UPS product types.

2. Removed UPS metering incentive that had been in place.

3. Updated test method to account for the DOE standards test method and updates to references.

4. Effective Date: January 1, 2019

Key Changes in Data Storage Version 1.1

1. Amended scope to allow File I/O based systems. 2. Amended test method to allow for File I/O based

system testing.3. Test method released on February 14, 20184. Effective Date: May 21, 2018

Consumer Engagement Opportunities

ENERGY STAR Pledge• The ENERGY STAR Pledge is an easy engagement tool

that encourages your audiences to pledge to save energy – providing them numerous energy-saving actions to pledge:– From light bulbs to TVs to appliances and even home

improvement projects, such as adding insulation.

• It’s easy to become a pledge driver.– Simply sign up at energystar.gov/pledgedrivers and receive

a unique url to track pledges made by your audiences.

• The ENERGY STAR Pledge tracks:– Total pledge actions taken.

• Also provides break down of specific pledge actions.

– Total greenhouse gas emissions saved.

– Total dollars saved.

– Total kWh / BTUs saved.

Way to Save Tips Web Service• Ways to Save Tips is a web service that provides

an ongoing stream of ENERGY STAR® branded, energy-saving tips to external websites that adopt the service.

• Tips include all ENERGY STAR vetted, energy-saving tips for certified consumer products, including laptops and tablets, etc.– The tips in the feed will automatically refresh

with each visit to your site.• Tips are customizable for your web feed based on

specific product categories relevant to your program.

• Benefits include:– Fresh and frequent content to enhance search

engine optimization and overall customer engagement.

– ENERGY STAR brand affiliation to enhance credibility and customer value.

• Easy to implement.– Visit energystar.gov/waystosavetips

Holiday Promotion• Media Mix resulted in more than 6 mm

impressions – all driving traffic to the holiday promotional landing page featuring gifts and special deals from our partners– Google Display Network

ENERGY STAR Product Finder Updates

• Adding in price and availability for ENERGY STAR Product Finders for models found at retail.

• Focused initially on products covered by ES Most Efficient that already include this information.

• Integrating relevant content for consumers researching products to purchase.

Retail Products Platform

• New approach to bring energy-efficient products to consumers and end-users.

– Goal is to transform markets by streamlining and harmonizing energy efficiency programs with retailers to make them less complex and more cost effective.

• Pilot included 8 program sponsors, representing 11 states.

– Makes up approximately 18% of the U.S.

• Expanded program reach in 2017 by adding significant retail storefronts: Nationwide (national buying group for thousands of small regional retailers), Lowes

• There are 3 new utility program sponsors joining in 2018.

• 2017 Product Mix: Air Cleaners, Room AC, Dryers, Freezers, Refrigerators, Sound Bars, Clothes Washers

• 2018 Addition: Dehumidifiers
