CurrentdevelopmentsintheU.S.transportationsectorpredictthatAmerica’sloveaffairwiththecarisslowlycomingtoanend.Thisiscertainlytrueformetropolitanareas.Moreandmorecitiessupporttheimplementationofpublictransit systems, extensive bike lane networks, and walkable neighborhoods. She has over 12 years of business experience,including3inGermany.Aftergraduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and German, sheworkedforaU.S.softwarecompanyforseveral years, then as an intercultural trainer in Berlin, teaching communicationtechniquesaswellasbusinessEnglish toGermanprofessionals. Her industry focus includes machinery and automation, automotive,andenergyefficiency,includingelectricvehiclesandsmartgridtechnologies. She attends the Center for Automotive Research Management BriefingSeminarseachyear,aswellastheSAEWorldCongress.OtherconferencesincludeMEEAEnergyEfficiencySymposiumandvariouslocalseminarsonlegalandtaxissues.ShehasalsoparticipatedinDIHKtrainingforProjectManagement,AdvisingCompaniesduringEconomicDownturns,andLeadershipTraining.

Randy Blankenhorn, Executive Director, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning Randy Blankenhorn is executive director of CMAP, the ChicagoMetropolitanAgencyforPlanning.Underhis leadership,CMAPdevelopedandisnowguiding theimplementationofGOTO2040,metropolitan Chicago’sfirstcomprehensiveregionalplaninmore than 100 years. RandyandCMAPstaffworkcloselywithsevencounties, 284municipalities,andscoresofstakeholdergroupsto implementtheplan’sstrategiesforaligningpublic policiesandinvestments.PriortojoiningCMAPin2006, Randy was Bureau Chief of Urban Program Planning for the Illinois DepartmentofTransportation(IDOT),coordinatingactivitiesofthe14metropolitanplanningorganizationsacrossIllinois.

Christopher Bushell, Chief Infrastructure Officer/Senior Vice President, Chicago Transit Authority - CTAChristopherBushell,ChicagoTransitAuthority,ChiefInfrastructureOfficer/Senior Vice President is a graduate of the University of Michigan where he receivedhisMastersDegreeinArchitecture.Chris’careerpriortoCTAincludeddesign and construction management as a consultant to the Chicago Public SchoolsandlaterastheDirectorofCapitalRenovationsintheChicagoPublicSchool’sDepartmentofOperations.InMay2004ChriswasappointedastheFirstDeputyExecutiveDirectorfortheCityofChicago’sDepartmentofConstructionandPermits.Since2007Chrishasoverseenthemaintenance,construction,andengineeringrelatedtotheCTA’srailand facility infrastructure.

Michael Duoba, Research Engineer, Argonne National Laboratory Mr.Duobahelpedfoundandisnowtheseniorengineer atArgonneNationalLaboratory’sAdvancedPowertrain Research Facility (APRF). The APRF uses novel instrumentation and state-of-the-art dynamometer test equipmenttotestandanalyzeadvancedautomotive propulsionsystems.Mike is also an active member of the SAE Standardization Committees. He chaired thetaskforcethatdevelopedthestandardtestproceduresforplug-inhybridsandco-chairedthecommitteethatdevelopednewelectricvehicletestprocedures.Mikeiscurrentlythecommitteechairtoestablishstandardpowerratingsforhybrid vehicles.Mike received a BS from IIT and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Tim Grzesiakowski, Project Manager - Commute Options, Metropolitan Planning Council TimjoinedtheMetropolitanPlanningCouncil(MPC) in2011asProjectManageroftheCommuteOptions pilotprogram.Throughhisefforts,herecruited16 Chicagoareaemployerstoencouragealternative commutingmodes.Asaresult,effortsareunderwayto establishapermanentChicagoareaTransportation Demand Management Program (TDM). Tim has more than25yearsofexperienceinTransportationMarketing and Planning. PriortojoiningMPC,hewasHewittAssociates’(nowAonHewitt)CommuterTransportationManagerfrom2000to2011responsibleformanagingassociatetransportationprogramsatthecompany’sheadquartersinLincolnshire,Ill.,andacrossNorthAmerica.Healsowasinvolvedindevelopingthecompany’senvironmentalprogramsworldwide.HereceivedhisBachelorofScienceinCommerce from DePaul University in Chicago, and a Master of Arts in Public AdministrationfromPepperdineUniversityinMalibu,CA.

Dr. Thoralf Knote, Department Head, Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems Mr.KnoteisaTrafficEngineerwithadiplomaandPhD inTrafficEngineeringandControl(publictransport andtrafficmanagement)ofDresdenUniversityof Technology.Hehasworkedfordifferentengineering offices,DresdenUniversityofTechnologyand FraunhoferIVI.Hisareasofexpertisearepublictransport,transportationinfrastructureandtrafficmanagementaswellasinnovativepropulsionsystems.HeworksasaprojectmanagerandheadofdepartmentwithinFraunhoferIVI.

Mario Soos, Deputy Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Chicago, IL Mr.MarioSoosistheDeputyConsulGeneralof Germany in Chicago. Before coming to Chicago he servedasDeputyChiefofMissionoftheGerman Embassy in Slovenia. Prior to Slovenia he served as head of the climate and energy team at the German Embassy in Washington, D.C. OtherassignmentsincludetoursasheadofunitforregionalcooperationinSoutheastEuropeattheForeignOfficeinBerlin,DeputyChiefofMissionattheGermanEmbassyinCyprus,andpostingsattheGermanEmbassiesinColombiaandCroatia.Mr.Soosisacareerdiplomat,havingservedtheGermanForeignOfficesince1989.

Dr. Sandra Wappelhorst, Senior Expert, Innovation Centre for Mobility and Societal Change Dr.SandraWappelhorstiscurrentlyaSeniorExpertat the Innovation Centre for Mobility and Societal Change (InnoZ)inMunich,Germany,whereshedevelops mobilityconceptsforcompaniesandmanagesprojects on electric carsharing.
