Ready-to-use solution for feeding filter presses The filter press is an apparatus for solid/liquid separation that either reduces the volume of products or filters solutions. Its operating cycle consists of two essential phases that are directly related to the upstream pumping solution: filling, followed by maintenance of pressure at the end of the cycle. The system selected must comply with certain requirements, such as guaranteed filling with a high flow-rate for better control of cycle time, verification of flow- rate during the pressure mainten- ance phase to provide a better filtration quality or maintenance of the minimum desired flow-rate at the end of the cycle for a better filter cake quality.

PCM Pompes has developed a ready-to-use solution with its Series 1 Moineau PCM pump. As a result of the use of a flow- pressure-time-power regulation system, Series 1 pumps derived from the Moineau PCM line ensure filter press feeding while guaranteeing optimal operation throughout the different phases of the pressure maintenance cycle. The filter press feed system is suit- able for all models: platen filter press, membrane platen filter press and dual feed filter press.

The use of one Series 1 pump is particularly well suited for small filter presses. This pump can be used to carry out the entire cycle, from high flow-rate filling up to the end of the pressure mainten- ance phase with a minimum flow-rate.

The use of two Series 1 pumps is designed for large filter presses, where the filling flow-rate is high- er, in order to guarantee reduced cycle time. Combining two pumps enables a broader flow-rate range to be obtained in order to respond to filtering requirements at the beginning of the process (very high flow-rate) and at the end of the cycle (very low flow- rate). Turnkey installation allows for closed circuit operation throughout the cycle, thereby guaranteeing a shorter pressing cycle than with another pump technology.

Frequently used for decon- tamination installations, the filter press feed proposed by PCM is perfectly suited to the most varied sectors of activity. During the construction of water treatment stations using a filter press, or when an installation is modemised by the operator, the PCM Moineau pump offers a potential solution for both urban stations and industrial sites such as surface treatment plants, tanneries or paper mills.
