Happy New Year Irsquom so excited about what God is doing and going to do at First Lyman in the year ahead Irsquom so thankful for David Petty who brought the message the first Sunday of 2011 David is a faithful servant of the Lord This Sunday January 9 will be a very special day We have six new deacons beginning their ministry with us Five of the six will be ordained on Sunday morning I look forward to hearing from each of them how God has moved in their lives Pray for these men and their families as they share in the work of the Gospel ministry to the body of First Lyman In the next week or so you will receive a letter from me concerning the Global Missions Offering and a pledge card In the new budget year the church has decided to give to missions all year long The GMO (Global Missions Offering) will be received with your regular tithes and offerings You may simply designate a portion of your gift for missions or give a separate gift The letter you receive will explain with more details On Sunday January 30 we will have a special service to lay our pledge to missions on the altar and observe the Lordrsquos Supper

We are also preparing to sponsor a Good News Club at Beech Springs Intermediate School This is an amazing ministry opportunity to be involved with through Child Evangelism Fellowship in Spartanburg On the afternoon of February 6 we will have the necessary training to participate I hope you will prayerfully consider giving a few hours a week in the spring to share the love of God with these students There is so much despair in the world around us Isnrsquot it amazing that God has given us the message of hope to share with others Be faithful brothers and sisters in loving those who may not even love themselves Let them see Christ at work in and through you God bless Pastor Scott

This semester is going to be off the charts at First Lyman Wersquove got tons of exciting things coming up Beginning Wednesday February 9 we will be kicking off a new semester of Bible studies Back by popular demand Tony and Kara Gillespie will be taking a group through Dave Ramseyrsquos Financial Peace University Was your New Yearrsquos resolution to get out of debt or to just try to be a better steward of your money Then this study is just for you Tollie and Ashley Gosnell will be leading a new study on biblical parenting called ldquoGrowing Kids Godrsquos Wayrdquo This semester will cover everything from preparing for the arrival of a baby all the way through the toddlerhood transition You do not want to miss this If you are interested in either of these studies please contact the church office The cost for Financial Peace and the cost of Growing Kids Godrsquos Way are both $50 PER COUPLE (this will cover the supplies for the classes scholarships are available upon request) These studies are also a great way to invite people to church who would not ordinarily come - so invite some friends and neighbors to join The students will also be beginning a new study on February 9 called Radical Wersquore going to be challenged to live radically for Jesus Christ and for His kingdom instead of just trying to fit into the mold of the American dream Itrsquos gonna be cuh-razy awesome And coming up in March wersquoll be throwing it down with this yearrsquos DNow called Kingdom Come And ldquocuh-razy awesomerdquo will not even begin to describe the sheer cuh-razy awesomeness it will contain So go ahead and sign up 2011 is going to lay the smackdown on 2010 Irsquom just saying God has big things in store for us this year and I for one canrsquot wait to see what He does at the FBL this semester

The Senior Adult Choir will begin rehearsal for 2011 on Tuesday January 11th at 1000 AM in the choir room Mark your calendar and make your plans to join us as we prepare for the work of worship leadership And yes there will be doughnuts

The Adult Choir meets for rehearsal on Wednesdays at 710 PM We have some great music to learn and share for 2011 Now is a great time to fulfill that New Yearrsquos resolution yoursquove always made to do more singing (OK that may be a stretch but what a great resolution) Come and join us as we praise God together

Calling All Men

This Sunday January 9th we will celebrate Deacon Ordination during our morning worship service Letrsquos fill the choir loft with men on that day Even ldquoJoyful Noise Makersrdquo are welcome Men if you will join us in the choir room that morning at 1045 I promise you will be blessed even as you will be a blessing Real men sing REAL LOUD

One Final Note I know this is sooooo 2010 but I must offer praise and thanks to God for the way the people of Lyman First Baptist let God ldquoshow offrdquo in the ministry to the men of the Bethel Colony of Mercy this past Christmas The generosity of individuals and Bible Study classes provided useful gifts that encouraged and demonstrated the love of Christ The joyful and diligent work of the choir provided a great vehicle for the message of Godrsquos love God was glorified in our midst I canrsquot wait to see what God will do in and through us in 2011
