What have we found out so far?
The barriers for young people finding employment appear to fit into two categories.
- Emotional/personal barriers, such as lack of confidence and self esteem. This is not helped by the current provision of a more generic approach to supporting young people to find employment
- Practical barriers, such as lack of suitable clothes for interview or a shortage of money for transport. It also expands to an overall lack of experience (of general life skills as well as work placed experience).

Identified solutions…
The need for a more intensive personalised “youth focussed” approach. A joint approach to communication and referral processes .
Address employers barriers – “educating” employers/changing recruitment practices.
Address employment market barriers - encouraging work tasters, volunteering etc.
Address society barriers - engage wider community, bring different groups together
Self employment – provide support and encouragement and identify opportunities.
