E-VIGNETTES (ROAD USE PERMITS)

Vehicles belonging in the e-vignette toll system are those with a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 tons, such as motorcycles, cars, other motor vehicles, and passenger vehicles with over 3.5 tons of maximum permissible gross weight, such as buses and trailers (campers). These vehicles are authorised to use Hungarian toll roads exclusively with pre-purchased road use authorisations, i.e. e-vignettes. E-vignettes provide road use authorisation for Hungary’s motorways.

The toll charges depend on the category of the motor vehicle. The maximum permissible gross weight of a motor vehicle and its trailer is established on the basis of the official entry that appears in the vehicle registration documents.

VALIDITY PERIODS OF E-VIGNETTES

Weekly authorisation: valid on the starting date designated by the purchaser and 9 consecutive days (for 10 consecutive calendar days in total until the 24th hour of the 10th day).

Monthly authorisation: valid from the starting day designated by the purchaser until midnight of the day of the same number in the following month. If there is no such day, then to midnight of the last day of the month.

Annual authorisation: valid from 1 January 2014 until 31 January 2015 (for a total of 13 months).

IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT E-VIGNETTES

Tolls must be paid before entering the relevant motorway toll sections! Road use authorisation is not valid retroactively. In the case of a purchase within the required validity period the starting date of validity is the date of purchase. If you purchase more than one vignette at a time, please make sure that you have specified the time of your journeys (use) accurately!

Weekly and yearly e-vignettes for motorcycles are available for prices in the D1 category. * The tolls are gross amounts, inclusive of VAT.


UNAUTHORISED ROAD USE

Driving without valid road-use authorisation on a toll road section qualifies as unauthorised road use.

In case of electronic purchase, the confirmation message serves as a proof of purchase.

Fines – irrespective of the method of payment – can be paid through the customer service offices of our company by tickets (“yellow bills”), by bank transfer, and via the e-customer service of the National Toll Payment Services Ltd. (www.toll-charge.hu or en-ematrica.autopalya.hu)Grace periods are calculated from the date of inspection in the case of on-site inspections, and from the receipt of the penalty notice for electronic inspections.

The word “Pótdíj” (excess charge), the serial number of the report taken during the inspection or the identification code of the payment notice date of inspection, toll category (D1, B2). Penalty payment is due 30 days after receipt of the notification at the latest; past due date, the claim can be submitted to legal procedures (e. g. payment order).

Road use is considered unauthorised

• if you have purchased road use authorisation that does not match your toll category; e. g. e-vignette for motorcycles is used for a vehicle which is not registered as a motorcycle drives with an e-vignette for motorcycles;

• if the registration number indicated on the counterfoil or in the confirmation message is not identical with the actual registration number of the vehicle;

• if the country code indicated on the counterfoil or in the confirmation message is not identical with the country code indicated on the actual license plate of the vehicle;

• if the vignette has expired, or the validity period has not yet started.
