Mobility put to better use

The 'Mobility' range marks the arrival of EMTEC in the mobileaccessory market. Underpinning this ambitious launch is the'Use Project' approach, which is modernizing consumer pat-terns of use and shaking up habits.

EMTEC's values and convictions provide a solid base on which toconstruct this approach. The three pillars on which the brand identityand character are built are: quality, where performance and reliabilityare key; ingenuity, in other words, user-friendliness; and pleasure,which derives from design and diversity.

Ordinarily, performance is about mechanically piling on more and moremegabytes and megahertz. At EMTEC, performance only makes senseif it benefits users by widening the scope of possibilities. The mode ofuse is paramount. The ultimate aim of a company which is in touchwith its consumers is to closely observe their evolving digital habits inorder to better meet their needs.

“Use Project” is the fruit of this long process of reflection. To start with,the name is explicit and sums up the desire to innovate, to shake upconventions and to rethink the way traditional products are used in asomewhat sleepy market. For its big debut, the 'Use Project' conceptis being applied to the 'Mobility' range, which comprises a dozen mobileaccessories, from chargers to Bluetooth headphones. This project isnow a reality and has the status of a genuine label. And like any otherlabel, it applies a methodology:1•laying the emphasis on the use of products in order to enhance theexperience of users and make their lives easier;2•working with a designer, each time a collection is prepared for launch,

to conceive ofnew functions, improving on what already exists;3•defining a distinct theme with each new collection. Mobility has beenthe starting point, and will soon be followed by 'Home Office'.

The first designer whom EMTEC called upon was Cédric Ragot, whohas worked for a decade in fields as diverse as furniture, sport andbeauty. He is no stranger to new technologies,having worked for smart-phone and cable manufacturers.

Taking as his starting point the principles set out in the “Use Project”, hehas put his personal imprint on numerous mobile devices by emphasi-zing the practical aspect, which is an integral feature of all his creations."I even apply this premise to a simple chair," he explains. It's pointlessdesigning it if it doesn't fulfill its basic purpose, namely to offer a com-fortable place to sit down. Making concessions to style has no place inmy approach. I never make compromises when it comes to utility."

After a period of reflection on EMTEC's positioning, Cédric Ragot focu-sed on the design. "With products like this, focused on lifestyle, thetechnology has to be uncomplicated, user-friendly and hidden withinthe physical object."

This collaboration has resulted in the creation of cases, power banks,chargers and headphones which are as elegant as they are ingenious.The ethos underpinning the “Use Project” is respected to the letter. Weare witnessing a renaissance of the everyday mobile accessory whichconsumers wear on their head, hold in their hand or carry in theirpocket. There are the headphones which automatically play or pausethe music; there is the power bank which looks like a pouch and canrecharge a smartphone and a tablet simultaneously.

The design is functional and carries the red dot, which is the new EMTECseal. The same restraint has been applied when branding the products- extended names have been dropped in favor of short and expressivenames which make the principal function stand out. Witness the StayEarbud, magnetized earphones which remain happily in place aroundthe neck. And is that Stay Ear or Stay Here, incidentally? This jocularplay on words underlines the 'Use Project' credo, which is all aboutplaying with codes.
