Nadi or Pulse Dignosis as a diagnostic tool is a gift from India to the world. Sadly it is on the verge of extinction in its land of origin, namely India. Unfortunately the art is not taught even in Ayurveda and Siddha col-leges in India. The pathetic situation now is that even siddha and ayurveda doctors increasingly rely on modern diagnostic methods. IIT Madras is leading a PAN-IIT team (IIT-K, IIT-B and IIT-D under IMPRINT project) to design and develop instruments and devices to measure Nadi parame-ters and to scientifically validate Nadi diagnosis. Apart from the scientific factors, there are many socio-eco-nomic issues that are equally import-ant and are daunting to the survival of Nadi diagnosis in India, which is the focus of this project that would lead to broader public acceptance of it and revitalizing it.

Objectives of the project:1) Documentation of the accuracy of Nadi diagnosis: a systematic documentation of its efficiency in terms of accuracy for each of the diseases. 2) Documentation of the experts: A central database of experts prac-ticing Nadi Diagnosis will be created. 3) Documentation of the Training Methodolo-gy: Each Nadi expert use different heritage practices, followed different training meth-odologies. 4) Training on Nadi Diagnosis: The well-known experts will be training novices in regularly conducted workshops and conferences. Standards and certifica-tions of the trainee will be designed and offered regular courses. 5) Revitalization of Nadi Experts: Strategies with Nadi Experts as central to community development will be designed, Measurable outcomes of the revitalization will be monitored and re-ported, Nadi tourism will be designed and executed, popularization workshops for the public will be conducted.

Expected Outcome: 1) More awareness and confidence among public on the diagnostic ability of Nadi system 2) Stan-dardisation of Nadi Training 3) Certificate course on Nadi Diagnosis 4) More doctors willing to learn Nadi diagnosis 5) Central database of ex-perts which is easily accessible to public 6) Intro-duction of Nadi courses in Siddha and Ayurveda colleges and regular teaching of it.

Target population/ Beneficiary: Traditional ayurveda and siddha doctors are the primary target population, who are in remote inaccessible villages of India, they would be mo-tivated to train others. The secondary target are modern Ayurveda and Siddha doctors. We tar-get to train about 2000 doctors in an year. Each doctor attending 10 patients a day, 7.3 million patients would be benefited annually; with cost saving of 100 Rs a patient, annual savings would be Rs.73 crores.
