  • DWIGHT L. ECKERT (Co Director for EMP Task Force) Has over 35 years of experience in Electrical Engineering in the Aerospace Industry. He started his career working on Weapons of Mass Destruction and worked his way into the Space Industry. Much of his career has been in support of the exploration of Deep Space including sample return from the tail of a comet (Wild 2) and Mars Exploration missions. He now works the U.S. manned space program on the Orion spacecraft which fulfills a dream since he watched the early Space Program in the 1960. He knows the science and physics concerning EMP and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and their effects on the earth.

  • Is a Virginia based IRS certified 501(c)(3) organization endorsed by the EMP Congressional Caucus to either advise or seek expert opinion on any and all technical, operational, and policy matters of relevance concerning EMPs impact on critical infrastructures including electric power, communications, transportation, energy, banking and finance, food and water.

Our National Director is former 2001 US EMP Commission Staffer and National Security Expert, Dr Peter V. Pry

  • So What is EMP? Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP)

A Transient Electromagnet Disturbance A Short Burst of Electromagnet Energy

Significant electromagnetic pulse (EMP) threats occur when: 1. A nuclear weapon is detonated 2. An extreme solar storm occurs 3. A non-nuclear EMP (Radio Frequency)

    weapon is used

  • NUCLEAR HEMP AREA COVERAGE

EMP field coverage increases with increasing height-of-burst. A balloon or jet aircraft could loft a nuclear warhead to an altitude of 30 kilometers which, targeted over New York City, would also cover Washington, D.C., New York State, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and most of New England.

Orbital passes in April 2013 of the North Korean KMS 3-2 satellite over the most populous parts of the U.S. east of the Mississippi

North Koreas KMS 3-2 satellite is compatible with the size and weight of a small nuclear weapon particularly one optimized for EMP effects and is orbiting at an altitude suited for such use. It also approaches the U.S. from the south, a direction which lacks early warning or missile defenses.

  • The Impacts on Mankind A Carrington Level Solar Event or High Altitude Atomic Detonation

Could Be A Threat to Civilization Itself Infrastructure Failure

No Power (SCADA & HV Transformers)

No Transportation (Including the Supply Chain)

    No Communications (No Cell/Radio/TV Broadcasts/etc.)

Lack of Public Information Lack of Public Safety/Defense Breakdown of Our Civil Structure

The Grid Can Be Hardened, It Will Take Time and Money Our Military Has Hardened Facilities and Power For Decades We Know How to Do It It Does Not All Have to Happen at the Same Time

These Impacts Will Likely be Long Term Effects (Months to Decades) 13

The Situation is Dire But Not Hopeless - If We Act!

North Korea has: Tested nuclear weapons, including reportedly a super

EMP design obtained from Russia Repeatedly threatened the U.S. with nuclear attack Orbited a satellite that could be used in an EMP strike Collaborated closely with Iran on nuclear arms and

    missiles

  • The E1 Pulse

Gama Rays Will React With the Earliest Electrons They Find. In the Vacuum of Space Few Are Found

At Low Altitudes Electrons Are Found Early At High Altitude The Source Region Provides Electrons for Compton Scattering

The Electromagnetic Fields are Created by the Motion of the Electrons Short Wave Length (High Frequency) 20

  • The E3 Pulse The High Altitude Nuclear Blast Distorts Earths Magnetic Field Remember the Electric Field is Produced by the Rate of Change in the

    Magnetic Field

This is a Very Rapid Change (Duh, Its a Nuclear Blast)

The Effect is Wide Spread. The Change is in the Earths Magnetic Field

The Effect is Almost Global, Not Localized

The Electric Pulse Produced is the Late Time Effect (E3) Long Power Lines Act Like an Antenna (5-40 V/km)

This is a Very Low Frequency, Long Wave Length Pulse

To The Power Grid (60Hz) This Looks Like DC (0 Hz)

Transformers Hate DC. (Core Saturation & High Current)

They Heat Up, Catch Fire and Die (Destructively)

The Damage is Permanent and Could Spread

    Fire Damage

Cascading Electrical Effect Across the Grid

Extreme Solar Storms JULY 23, 2012

Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) capable of generating catastrophic geomagnetic super-storm narrowly missed Earth on July 22, 2012. NASA estimates the likelihood of such a storm hitting Earth to be 12 percent over the next decade--which virtually guarantees a natural EMP catastrophe will happen in our lifetimes or that of our children.
