14.Research Focus: Research interests include risk factors for sudden cardiac death and atrial fibrillation, including the complex interactions of oxidative stress with arrhythmia and the relationship of diastolic dysfunction with arrhythmia. Secondary interests include CRM (cardiac rhythm management) device infection risk reduction and the relationship between autonomic dysfunction and arrhythmia.

Adult patients with depressed ejection fraction referred for internal cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) placement will undergo 5+ year follow up for arrhythmia events and provide DNA samples for multiple evaluations of polymorphisms that lead to increased risk of arrhythmias. 3. Education Grant: 2007. $10,000. Sponsor: St. Jude Medical. This was an unlimited educational grant designed to support EP training for fellows and staff entirely at my discretion. Funds have been allocated to date for EP textbooks and educational conferences.
