Emily Carr was born on December 13, 1871 in Victoria, British Columbia.

She was the eighth child of nine children that were born in her family. Brittany, France by Emily Carr

She was the first Canadian in her family because on the year she was born, British Columbia became the sixth province in Canada to join the Confederation.

Her father encouraged her to go to Art class and she studied at San Francisco Art Institute. Tree in the Sky by Emily Carr

Emily at Work Emily Carr was remembered for her

paintings because she was the first artist to capture the spirit of Canada. Most of her paintings were all about native people and nature. She used watercolour and charcoal on her paintings but she used more charcoal.

She met Group of Seven who praised and supported her paintings because most of her paintings were not appreciated by others.

Not only Emily Carr was remembered for her paintings but also the books she wrote like The Book of Small, The House of All Sorts, and more. Most of her writing were about her native friends.

Some schools were named after her like Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Emily Carr Secondary School, and not only schools or university but there is also a library named after her.

Odds and Ends by Emily Carr

Emily Carr suffered from three heart attacks. In year 1937 was her first attack. Her second was a major attack in 1942. And in 1945, her last heart attack led her to death on March 2nd.

The 'Our Emily' statue was revealed in public during Women's History Month in Canada, on October 13th, 2010.
