The Excelsior Springs Area Career Center takes pride in the quality and professional classes pro-vided to the emergency services professionals. These evening classes appeal to the adult stu-dents offering instructional class time and hands-on teaching. Small class sizes allow opportunity for skills practice. We work with local and the surrounding areas fire and emergency medical services facilities for clinical and field experiences for our students. What are the requirements for this course?
REQUIREMENTS:
Completed enrollment form
High school diploma or equivalent
Background check with highway patrol
18 years of age
Able to communicate effectively in English
Non-refundable deposit $250 and payment agreement or full tuition payment by first night of class
Copy of driver’s license and social security card
Is there financial aid available for this course?
Payment plans may be available upon request and approved prior to the first day of class

How long is the course? This course consists of 176 hours of training and includes 12 hours ride-alongs and 24 hours sit-in to observe dispatchers at work. Call for start dates.
When does the class meet? Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Additional time may be scheduled at dispatch centers to learn prac-tical skills.

Emergency Dispatcher
Cost of Program: $750
Begin your career in emergency services as an emergency dispatcher. Upon successful completion of this 12 week course, stu-dents will earn the Basic Telecommunica-tor Certification required in the State of Missouri. Course instruction includes: In-troduction to Public Safety Telecommuni-cations, Liability Concerns for Dispatchers, MULES, Introduction to Crisis Intervention Training, Handling Suicidal Callers, Intro-duction to Police, Fire and EMS Dispatch-ing, Amber Alert, Active Shooter and much more. Students also complete 12 hours of ride-alongs with law enforcement and 24 hours of sit-ins at area dispatch centers. Additionally, students will practice inter-viewing skills for oral board interviews and learn about the hiring process for dispatch-ers. (22 / 3-hour sessions) Instructor: Tammy Folvarcik Time: 6p-9p Meets: Tuesdays/Thursdays
