Te tutor meets the students intheir rst week of study in the Emerald andthey subsequently have regular scheduledmeetings throughout their course. A recordis kept of each students progress, andclass teachers provide the mentors with anacademic report on each student in advanceof the meetings. Te mentors, teachers andthe Director of Studies are always available toassist or consult with students outside of thescheduled meetings.

    Te Internship programme guarantees aninitial study period at the Emerald CulturalInstitute followed by an unpaid placementin a company, allowing the student to gainexcellent experience not only in a choseneld but also of working in an English-speaking environment.

    Minimum duration: 4 weeks languagecourse and 6 weeks internship

    Age: 18+

    Eight weeks notice required prior tostart of internship

    Company will decide on the work schedule

    Availability of placements may varyaccording to the sector

    Tis course combines a minimum of fourweeks language study with between sixweeks and six months of hands-on workingexperience. Our internship is an ideal optionfor students studying with us for an academicyear who want to improve future careerprospects by gaining valuable experience toinclude on a CV.

Practical workshops focus on helping

    Non-Native Secondary Schooleachers of English SPC6

    Tis course focuses on the teaching ofEnglish in the secondary school classroom.Learning theories and their application arediscussed. Practical modules include:Learner Strategies, eaching the Four

    Skills; Use of Authentic Materials; asks andActivities in Language Learning; Drama inthe Language Classroom; Internet Resourcesand Language eaching. Special optionsin Literature and Cultural Awareness arealso available. Participants are given theopportunity to improve their condenceand competence in English by means oflanguage-development classes. A minimumlanguage level of Upper Intermediate (B2) isrequired for this programme.

    Introduction to CLIL for Secondaryeachers SPC7

    Tis course offers an introduction to whatCLIL is, how it is used and how contentteachers can apply it in their own teachingsituations. Tis introductory programme isfor teachers at secondary level who teachsubjects through English, or who mightdo so in the future and includes language-development lessons specially designed forteacher-training groups and modules on keyCLIL methodology. A minimum languagelevel of B2 is required for this programme.

    Online echnologies forEducation SPC8Using technology in the classroom is becomingan important skill for all teachers. Tis courseis for secondary level teachers who are alreadyintermediate level users of computers and whowould like to learn about online technologies to

    support their classes. At the end of the course,participants will have built their own teachingwebsite or class blog which will be ready to usein their own teaching situations. A minimumlanguage level of Upper Intermediate (B2) isrequired for this programme.

    VISA and Immigration GuidelinesAll non-EU students should contact theirnearest Embassy or Consulate to checkif they require a visa to study in Irelandor refer to the Department of Justicewebsite www.inis.gov.ie for full detailsof the online application procedure. It isthe responsibility of enrolling students toprovide documentation in accordance withthe appropriate visa procedures as advisedby the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration

    Service (www.inis.gov.ie) and/or theappropriate Irish embassy or consulate.It is a requirement for all non-EEA andnon-EU students who intend staying formore than 90 days to register with the GardaNational Immigration Bureau. Registrationneeds to be completed within 30 days ofarrival to Ireland. Te Student Welfare Officerwill assist the student with the requireddocumentation and procedures. Studentsstaying for more than 90 days must pay adeposit to the school for a recognised Englishexamination to be taken before the end oftheir course.

    Medical and ravel InsuranceAll students studying in Ireland must obtainappropriate medical insurance in their owncountry before departure and students arealso advised to take out travel insurance to

    cover accident or loss of baggage. MedicalInsurance can be arranged for non-EUstudents by the Institute on request.

    Students travelling to Ireland from EUcountries must bring their European HealthInsurance Card with them. Non-EU studentswho require a visa to study in Ireland willneed to submit full details of their medicalinsurance policy to the Immigration Bureauwhen submitting their application and

    they are required to have adequate medical

    insurance valid for their entire stay in Ireland.Te policy should be submitted in English oraccompanied by an English translation.

    Personal InsuranceStudents are not insured by the school orby the host family against illness, theftor loss of personal effects and the schoolaccepts no responsibility in the event of suchoccurrences. Personal insurance cover istherefore recommended.

    School HolidaysIn the case of public holidays which occur ona Monday students may begin their courseon the uesday of that week. Public Holidaysare non-refundable.
