    INTROD2CTION

=his 0ook is a collection o2 essa/s that came out o2 m/ one(on(one work with others 2or the most part. 1s I worked with peoplearound emotional and spiritual issues3 I 2ound the need to addresscertain 5uestions common to spiritual seekers and those in theprocess o2 awakening to their true nature. "ecause the 0ook ismade up o2 essa/s3 it is organi ed in parts rather than chapters. 1s aresult3 it lends itsel2 to contemplation o2 one essa/ at a time anddoesn?t need to 0e read in an/ particular order3 although it has anintentional order.

Introducing some terms might 0e help2ul3 in case this is the 2irst0ook o2 mine /ou?ve encountered. =he terms I?ve used in this 0ookand m/ others are ver/ similar to those that Eckhart =olle30estselling author and spiritual teacher3 has used in his 0ooks3 ThePower of Now and A New Earth. In those 0ooks3 he introduced theterm the Now to re2er to the present moment. He also introducedthe term egoic mind, which is the aspect o2 the mind that serves the

ego3 or the 2alse sel2.The ego is the sense o2 0eing a me and all theideas3 0elie2s3 and other conditioning entailed in the sense o2e4isting as an individual. =he ego is called the 2alse sel2 0ecause theego isn?t who we reall/ are3 although it seems like it is who we are.

    =he egoic mind3 which is a re2lection o2 the ego and itsconditioning3 is the chatter0o4 mind3 which produces a nearl/constant 2low o2 commentar/ a0out li2e 0ased on our conditioning.

We e4perience it as the voice in the head3 as Eckhart =olle calls it.For simplicit/3 I sometimes re2er to the egoic mind as the mind.

However3 the egoic mind is distinct 2rom the functional mind, whichis the aspect o2 the mind that we use to read3 calculate3 anal/ e3

In writing a0out the ego3 I have somewhat positioned it as theenem/3 as a device to help people detach 2rom it. B2 course3 even the ego 0elongs to the Bneness3and the ego serves e4actl/ the 2unction the Bneness intended.
