OUR SCHOOL VALUE FOCUS THIS FORTNIGHT IS
RESPECT ‘Valuing & accepting others by showing consideration’
As everyone at Flowerdale Primary School knows, we have new school values this year. These values were designed by our students and they know them well- Respect, Compassion, Bouncing Back, Teamwork and Personal Best.
Our weekly awards are based on these values and the majority of our students live up to these values all of the time. At times, however, they may be forgotten, hopefully only for a short time. Over the next two weeks I will be encouraging all students to focus on respectful relationships with others. This includes the way we speak to each other, behave towards each other and what we model to each other. Our younger students will only learn our school values if they see them demonstrated in action all of the time.
Some suggestions for respectful behaviours:
Opening the door for a teacher and saying, "After you."
Offering to do something for someone else.
Saying "Well done" to another student.
Saying thank you to the volunteers who come into our school each week to do things like Breakfast Club, meditation, Kidz Shed and Hot Lunches.
Offering to help set up for specialist lessons- music, art and Indonesian.
Following school rules and playing in appropriate areas.
I would like to see all students treating their teachers, fellow students and school visitors with respect and courtesy every day. Please discuss this with your children and encourage these behaviours. This will endure our school is a happy place for all.
Thank you
Christine Penhall

Ingredients
Cooking oil spray
1 onion, finely chopped
1 large zucchini, trimmed, finely diced
1 carrot, peeled, finely diced
1 teaspoon Mexican seasoning
300g lean beef mince
400g tin no-added-salt kidney beans, rinsed
400g tin no-added-salt chopped tomatoes
120g light corn chips
2/3 cup (100g) shredded reduced-fat cheese
1/2 cup low-fat natural yoghurt
Method Step 1- Spray a large saucepan with oil and place over medium heat. Add onion, zucchini and carrot; cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until soft. Add seasoning and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Add mince and cook, stirring to break it up, for 5 minutes or until browned. Add kidney beans, tomatoes and 1/4 cup water; stir to combine. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, until thickened. Step 2- Preheat grill to high. Transfer mince mixture to a large baking dish, then top with corn chips and sprinkle with cheese. Grill for 3–4 minutes, or until cheese melts and is bubbling. Step 3- Cool slightly, then top with yoghurt and garnish with coriander just before serving.
Hello travellers! Well done to all the students who figured out that I had travelled to China last time. But are you as quick this week? Here are some clues to help you: 1. In this country they believe that your blood type determines your personality. 2. People from this country eat Seaweed Soup on their birthday. 3. Most restaurants (including McDonalds) will deliver food straight to your home. 4. Babies are considered one year old at birth. 5. Since 1998, millions of people from around the world have flocked to this countries Mud
Festival, where for 10 days revellers enjoy mud massages, mud photo contests, mud marathons, and mud wrestling contests.
6. The pressure to succeed academically for top marks is deeply ingrained in children from an early age.
7. Men from this country are obsessed with makeup. They wear it to hide their blemishes and look like a celebrity. In this country, if you look good, you’re more likely to get a job.
Research in books and the internet and when you think you know the answer write it down with your name and place it in the Jelly Bean box. A name will be pulled out to win a prize at assembly! Best of luck! Signing off!
Beef and Bean Nachos
Our Kindergarten children have been fascinated by the Olympic games this term. Everyone enjoyed our mini Olympics and all our children went home with a medal that was made out of salt dough. Our events were long jump, running races, hurdles, tunnel ball and we finished off the day with a team relay. Our children also loved looking at the different flags from around the world and finding their countries on the globe.
NOW is the time to enrol for 2016!
