I am truly sorrowful as to where we've ended up. Not that I didn't expect a better outcome- given the Hawk tendencies of the United States. I guess it's all those movies I watch where the hero - patriotic, smart AND good looking , swoops in last minute to right the wrongs and save his country and the film. ( a tried and true American recipe). The exporting of ideas, pro-totypes for democratic ideals, hon-esty etc was our 'stock in trade'- we WERE the prototype for the planet! The whole world hating the role of bad guy exterminator ( which Amer-ica wanted and wants to continu-ously play) but envying it - hands down- and mimicking (or trying to, at least) America's culture. We are at the crossroads for cultural bankruptcy - more than 1 million 500 thousand homeowners will lose their homes this month, hundreds of thousands losing their jobs daily, New York putting out ads about the hungry ( 1.7 mil-lion) and the self-destructive mania ( or idiocy) sports Kawasaki eyewear and sashays onstage to take the reins of the country in her hands! Where is the terror(ist) we fear and why are our beardless youth in Iraq Afghanistan? We form the terror with our vote! We gave the keys to the White house away 8 years ago , and now we offer up a silly excuse for an Ameri-can woman - groomed (literally and figuratively) whose well manicured hand will ( oops! ) ac-cidently press the red button! At least we will not be around as a planet, afterward to hear her apolo-gize........................... "But..........I can see Russia from my house"!!!

Λυπάμαι για την κατάντια μας! Όχι ότι δεν περίμενα με όλες τις πολεμικές ιαχές της Αμερικής να έχουμε καλύτερη εξέλιξη! Μάλλον βλέπω πολλές ταινίες όπου τελευταία στιγμή έρχεται ο καλός προικισμένος, πατριώτης, έξυπνος και καλοφτιαγμένος να σώσει την κατάσταση την χώρα και την ταινία! (πετυχημένη συνταγή αμερικάνικη) ,Η εξαγωγή ιδεών, πρωτοτύπων περί δημοκρατίας και αξιοκρατίας, διαφάνειας και λειτουργικότητας ήταν το ατού μας, ήμασταν το πρότυπο του πλανήτη! Μίσος, για τον ρόλο του εξολοθρευτή του κακού (που ήθελε και θέλει να παίζει ανεπιτυχώς η Αμερική), αλλά όλοι — μηδενός εξαιρουμένου —μιμούνται ή θέλουν να μιμηθούν την κουλτούρα της !

Είμαστε στα πρόθυρα εθνικής πτώχευσης - περισσότεροι από ένα εκατομμύρια πεντακόσιοι χιλιάδες ιδιοκτήτες χάνουν αυτό το μήνα τα σπίτια τους, εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες οι άνεργοι καθημερινά, η Νέα Υόρκη φτιάχνει διαφημιστικά για τους πεινασμένους νεοϋορκέζους (1.7 εκατομμύρια), και η αυτοκαταστροφική μανία (ή βλακεία) των Ρεπουμπλικάνων φορά Καβασάκι γυαλιά και εμφανίζεται κουνιστή κουνιστή να πάρει την χώρα στα χέρια της! Ποια τρομοκρατία φοβόμαστε και γιατί πολεμούν τα αμούστακα παιδιά σε Ιράκ Αφγανιστάν?

Εμείς την φτιάχνουμε την τρομοκρατία με την ψήφο μας! Της δώσαμε τα κλειδιά του Λευκού Οίκου 8 χρόνια πριν, και τώρα της προσφέρουμε μια χαζό-χαριτωμένη Αμερικάνα, όπου με ιδιαίτερη φροντίδα και απόλυτα περιποιημένο νύχι θα πατήσει - κατά λάθος - το κόκκινο κουμπί των πυρηνικών πυραύλων! Τουλάχιστον δεν θα υπάρχουμε μετά ως πλανήτης για να την ακούσουμε στην απολογία της να λέει: .......αλλά βλέπω την Ρωσία απ΄το σπίτι μου!!!

Σε μια άνευ προηγουμένου συντονισμένη ενέργειά τους έξι κεντρικές τράπεζες περιλαμβανομένης της Τράπεζας της Αγγλίας και της Αμερικανικής Κεντρικής Τράπεζας, Federal Reserve, προέβησαν σε μείωση των επιτοκίων τους κατά μισή ποσοστιαία μονάδα. Στην Βρετανία, όπου τέτοια κίνηση δεν ανεμένετο πριν την σύνοδο της νομισματοπιστωτικής επιτροπής την Πέμπτη, το βασικό επιτόκιο έχει μειωθεί από τα 5% στα 4.5%, ενώ στις ΗΠΑ τα επιτόκια μειώθηκαν από τα 2% στo 1.5% και το επιτόκιο της ευρωζώνης από τα 4.25% στα 3.75%. Οι κεντρικές τράπεζες του Καναδά, της Σουηδίας και της Ελβετίας προέβησαν σε παρόμοιας έκτασης μειώσεις του βασικού επιτοκίου των, ενώ σε μείωση του κόστους του χρήματος προέβη και η Κίνα, μειώνοντας το επιτόκια της κατά 0.27 μονάδες βάσης.Η πρωτοφανής αυτή συντονισμένη ενέργεια των νομισματοπιστωτικών αρχών είχε σαν σκοπό την

σταθεροποίηση της κλυδωνιζόμενης παγκόσμιας οικονομίας και των χρηματιστηρίων, που στο απότοκο της μείωσης επέστρεψαν από την άβυσσο, άδηλο όμως για πόσο. Έχσοντας υποχωρήσει μέχρι και 6% σε ένα σημείο ο δείκτης FTSE 100 του χρηματιστηρίου του Λονδίνου έδειχνε στις 1 μετά το μεσημέρι μικρή άνοδο κατά 15.88 μονάδες ή 0.34% ενώ παρόμοιες νεκραναστάσεις έδειχναν και τα

άλλα ευρωπαϊκά χρηματιστήρια. Σημειώνουμε ότι η τελευταία φορά που η Τράπεζα της Αγγλίας μείωσε τα επιτόκια της εκτός της τακτικής εβδομαδιαίας συνεδρίας της νομισματοπιστωτικής επιτροπής ήσν σε έκτακτη σύνοδο στις 18 Σεπτεμβρίου του 12001, όταν μείωσε τα επιτόκια από τα 5% στα 4.75%.Την αποφασιστική κίνηση της Τράπεζας της Αγγλίας, που ήλθε λίγες ώρες μετά την ανακοίνωση για την σύσταση σχεδίου βοηθείας των τραπεζικων ιδρυμάτων της χώρας στο ύψος των £50 δις χαιρέτισαν οι βιομήχανοι της χώρας κρίνοντάς την, σε συνδυασμό με την χορήγηση κεφαλαίων στις παραπαίουσες τράπεζες σαν «βοήθεια για να μην βυθιστεί η χώρα σε βαθιά ύφεση». Κι όρος που χρησιμοποίησε στην ανακοίνωση αυτή ο ανώτερος οικονομολόγος του συνδέσμου μεταποιητικών βιομηχζανιών ΕΕF, Steve Brad-ley, ήταν όχι «recesssion» αλλά «depression». Με την σειρά του ο αναλυτής Peter Warburton της Economic Perspectives της υποδέχθηκε θετικά την κίνηση σαν από καιρού ενδεικνυόμενη, αφού «πήρε τόσο καιρό για την κυβέρνηση και την Τράπεζα της Αγγλίας να συνειδητοποιήσουν την κλίμακα της απειλής που το πάγωμα του πιστωτικού συστήματος συνιστά για την οικονομία».

Wall Street suffered its worst plunge on Sep-tember 29th after a rebellious Congress killed the unpopular $700 billion. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 777 points - a bigger crisis of confidence even than the his-toric 684-point drop that followed 9/11. What would it be? The Greatest Depression? The Great Depression the 2nd? The Great Depres-sion Again? Yes, it's true over the years the news has always been depressing, negative, watch it to keep in touch but never much of a positive spin on much just in general. This is a whole new level.

"I don't think we can even fathom what might happen. Even if this Rescue Plan comes to frui-tion, will that really work? Will the solutions

work? Or will they cause other effects sys-temically throughout our financial market that bleed into our day to day lives in ways we don't like? I think its all possible. I really do. I'm an optimist most of the time but this is scary. Bad debts are increasing right now because people are losing their jobs and cannot pay their mort-gages. Now folks will find it much harder to even GET loans for a car, a house, a anything. It's locking up.

Those voting “nay” had heard from angry constituents, who just aren’t sophisti-cated enough to comprehend the complexities of high finance.So, a new education effort is under way.

If only they could convince y’all that it’s not a $700 billion taxpayer bailout of Wall Street or of financial institutions that purchased junk assets. If only they could convince y’all it’s not even a bailout, but an investment that just might make the taxpayers money. If they could convince you it’s not Wall Street, it’s Main Street. And if frogs had wings …There are two major problems in understand-ing the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.First, those who are to blame are too busy blaming others. It’s confusing.Secondly, there aren’t many details in the plan, which makes it hard to understand. “We can’t say whether it’s good or bad or if it’ll work or won’t work,” says Dorsey Farr, Ph.D., econo-mist and investment strategist for Atlanta-based French Wolf & Farr investment firm.Judging by the vote and the blogs and com-ments on ajc.com, folks seem to be saying they know enough. The details that are missing aren’t little matters, Farr says. Like, who will manage this effort, how will the purchases of these distressed

assets work and how will the prices be set?“All it does is authorize the release of funds,” Farr explains.The bill as proposed and as likely to resurface is a $700 billion bet on the secretary of the Treasury to do whatever and do it right.But no one knows who the secretary will be in four months.Those unenlightened constituents weren’t the only ones who didn’t particularly like this bill. The market, as measured by the Dow, was down 200 to 300 points most of Monday on the belief that passage of the bill was a foregone conclusion.When it didn’t pass, the Dow dropped 300 points in a minute, ending down 777 and proving once again that the market dislikes uncertainty even more than a bad piece of legislation.Congressional leaders will make another at-tempt at convincing members “not to let perfect be the enemy of good.”Farr says that the question a year ago was whether the housing slowdown would translate into a recession.That question seems to have been answered in the affirmative, though a debate will rage for years about whether a recession could have been avoided, if only we’d addressed the finan-cial crisis sooner and differently.The more immediate questions are how deep and widespread will the recession become. And are the constituents of those 228 “nay”-saying representatives willing to pay the price of teach-ing Wall Street and Washington a lesson.

The Bush Administration is prepared to announce an expansion of the United States' Visa Waiver Program during the next four to six weeks. The visa waiver pro-gram allows foreign nationals to travel to the United States for purposes of tourism or business without hav-ing to apply for a visa. There are 27 countries currently in the Visa Waiver Program. Greece has long been considered a leading candidate for expansion for many reasons, including: * Greece is the only country formally nominated by the U.S. Department of State (September 2007) to proceed with a formal evaluation process to be conducted by the U.S. De-partment of Homeland Security (DHS). * Greece provides for visa free travel reciprocity for United States citizens for 90 days (tourism and business purposes) * Greece's visa refusal rate is exceptional. It is less than the required 3 percent refusal rate of U.S. non-immigrant visitor visa applications. FY07 Refusal Rate was 1.6%. * Greece's quality of life and EU citizenship dis-courages any possible rea-son for a Greek national to travel illegally to the United States or overstay his/her visa. In addition, Greece is a member of the Organization of Eco-nomic Cooperation and Development. * As of January 1, 2007, Greek authorities announced that Greek passports issued prior to January 1, 2006 will no longer be valid for travel. Therefore, Greek nationals will be travel-ing with new, machine-readable passports that are produced using state-of-the-art technology (biometrics) to meet the highest possible security standards and specifications-even higher standards than the passports of the many current 27 visa waiver nations.

STATUSWe learned and confirmed this week that Greece's path to become a visa waiver nation has received a "red light" from the Executive Branch due to a "political issue" with Greece.Prior to this news, DHS and Greece have been working toward completion of the necessary requirements for Greece to fulfill to become a visa waiver nation. * Teams from DHS have conducted security reviews of Greece in November 2007 and in early 2008. * DHS has provided Greece with Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) that lay out new legislative re-

A group of international statesmen being called "The Elders", including former U.S. president Jimmy Carter have arrived on the divided island of Cyprus to support U.N.-backed peace talks. For VOA, Nathan Morley reports from Nicosia. On arrival, they lauded Cyprus President Dimitris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat for their ex-pressed commitment to end to the decades-old dispute. Ambassador of Slovakia Anna Tourenikova, whose em-bassy is sponsoring the visit, told VOA News Slovakia has played an important role in keeping an open communica-tion channel between the two communities during the past two decades. "The process of bi-communal dialogue has lasted already almost 20 years," said Am-bassador Tourenikova. "They are coming together, they are discussing issues of common interest, they are listening to each other, and thus they are trying to contribute to the negotiation process and find the solution of the Cyprus problem."

Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat started a new round of talks on September 3. But in recent weeks reports the process has run into difficulties have been rife. In an interview with VOA

News, U.N. Spokesman Jose Dias admitted that initial optimism had cooled. "There was a lot of optimism, a lot of enthusiasm,

when the process was re-launched," he said. "I think people are now sitting down and more soberly assessing the situation. We are still cautiously optimistic, we have come along way since March when the leaders started meeting."Jimmy Carter is no strang-er to Cyprus politics; he was responsible for the United States playing part in the ABC Cyprus peace plan in 1978, which failed to produce results. The 12-point plan, called the ABC plan because of its American, British, and Canadian sponsorship, proposed a bi-regional, independent federal re-public.

Former Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash told VOA that however sym-bolic, President Carter's visit was welcome news for most Cypriots. "Knowing his interest in human rights, his visit, though late, maybe useful if he comes with an open mind - he usually does," he said. Cyprus was split in a 1974 Turkish invasion triggered by a Greek-inspired coup. Turkish Cypriots live in its north and Greek Cypriots in the south, and numerous attempts to reunite Cyprus have failed

Defying police presence and a thunderous downpour, dozens of Hellenes, says a CNN report, huddled near the Parthenon in Athens on the last Sunday of August, holding a protest prayer for a controversial museum, being built at the foot of the sacred site.The ceremony, witnessed by scores of onlookers, was performed amid the ruins of the 2,500 year-old Parthenon. It was Con-stantine, Emperor of the Empire with Constantinople as its throne that outlawed a religion which had lasted for five thousand years (Zeus was first mentioned in Lin-ear B tablets around 1400 B.C.). Dressed in crisp white apparel, the Zeus worshippers gathered before the east wing of the temple's imposing Corinthian columns and prayed to Athena (or Minerva for the Latins)-the goddess of wisdom and patron of Athens- asking her to protect the Parthenon from further destruction. "Oh goddess," roared high priestess Doretta Peppa, her hands extend-ed over offerings of water and olive oil." Rid it of all evils such as the deconstruction of the Acropolis." While the Greek Culture Ministry forbids ceremonies of any sort at archeological sites, in January, the Olympian gods reviv-alists used a 2nd century A.D. temple of Zeus in Athens to stage the first known ceremony of its kind in 1,600 years. Four other ceremonies have been held since then -- in unfenced sites. On Sunday, their tiny band man-aged to enter the Acropolis' heavily guarded grounds, paying an entrance fee as tourists and later convincing site guards of their innocuous cause. The 15-minute

mid-day rite was organized by Ellines, an Athens-based group that recently won a court battle for state recogni-tion of the ancient religion. The group is now demanding the government allow it to perform weddings and other rites. On Sunday, the group's Parthenon ritual cast a new thun-derbolt at its government opponents and the designs to build a controversial museum at the foot of the Acropo-lis. Followers of Ellines object to the recent removal of marble pediments from the Parthenon and hundreds of masterpieces from a tiny museum on the Acropolis to re-house within the sprawling gallery beneath the ancient citadel. "The new museum," said Peppa, "is a monumen-tal eyesore, an architectural monstrosity within the most traditional and archeologically-rich part of Athens. "It is an insult to our heritage.” Criticism of the $190 mil new museum designed by flam-boyant Bernard Tschumi over its location and style, it is the subject of at least 100 suits, but its defenders count on it to some day house the Elgin Marbles…Then again, how can you blame the Zeus worshippers when even the Democratic hopeful in these United States opted to give his acceptance speech in a surrounding of elaborate columned stage resembling a Greek Temple. The stage, similar to structures used for rock concerts, has been set up at the 50-yard-line, the midpoint of Invesco Field, the stadium where the Denver Broncos' National Football League team plays.

Ted’s answer was that he hasn’t seen Jen since she wore braces while still with her mother. Things do change as we know, as we also know that poor Jen can’t get a man who would really, really love her. Not like this kid John Mayer And then reports that always fol-low, like talking to her ex for consolation and he stood her up? And now there’s Scottish actor Gerard Butler. Well, if it’s true, good for her, at least he’s her age. Meanwhile, going back to her godfather’s brother Ted, he says when he was teaching at a College in Greece several decades ago, John Aniston, Jen’s father, asked him for a favor as far as taking some courses there, which I believe Ted obliged. A few years later, when John broke into the Soap Opera cir-cuit, he gave Ted the cold shoulder ….

well, dear ones-we've got much media archives and blogs etc. to sort through ( youtube-gotta love it! ) but we are preparing for elections and like it or not decisions will be made, with or (mostly) with-out us............like can a mayor formally opposed to 3 terms be allowed one extra 'cause he's, uh, not done? will we vote skin color for the highest seat in the land? does a woman running for office , in these modern and so liberated times- have the right to be a putz? the VP debates are generating more (highly unusual) interest than anything else in these , quite dire, times. (hey! rusky- i SEE you!!! )i actually, never have liked debates- yea , i know, they're important yada yada- but as a libra- i find the stress and cringe factors just more than i can take- i'd rather read the transcripts later. this go-round prom-ises to send -at least the cringe factor- off the charts and i am sorely tempted to take a valium and a cup of tea and force myself to watch. i just got back from greece where all i met were ask-ing obama or mccain? what do you think will hap-pen- who will you vote for? funny, more discussions about that in greece than here in the states. here what i'm getting is gas prices , job insecurity discus-sions in my town- small picture vs big picture stuff. and yet, that IS the picture. how life is everyday in your town- who's son or daughter is coming home in a body bag- prices for basics ( and small luxuries like extracurricular education) where can you leave your 0-18 yr old children because you just cannot raise them anymore- by the way- i think the nebraska law is a good but a terribly backwards law- there should be help available to help families NOT have to give up their children. we, as a nation are at some major crossroads and how we behave, singly and collectively ( and as a government) over the next few years will have a tell-ing effect as to our long range future. this is not one of those times when we can kind of coast for a few years- status quo-take a bit of a breather etc. this is crunch time............................may God help us all.

Χαζέψτε λίγο όπως οι γιαγιάδες τα δορυφορικά κανάλια. Παίξτε με την πασιέντζα και τον ναρκαλιευτή κατά βούληση. Συστηθείτε με το ποντίκι, δεν δαγκώνει, δεν τρώει τυρί και δεν πίνει τον καφέ σας, μόνο αν τον βάλετε δίπλα του, σίγουρα

τον έχετε εκσφενδονίσει-κατά λάθος- στα επόμενα πέντε λεπτά. Άζαξ και σκατόχαρτο πρέπει να είναι συνεχώς πάνω στο γραφείο σας, μια και τα μηχανήματα που σχετίζονται με τους υπολογιστές,

κατέχουν ρεκόρ βρομο-έλξης, αδιάκριτης σκονοθύελλας και διαστημικής λίγδας.Με το πέρασμα του χρόνου, θα διαπιστώσετε πως δεν μπορείτε να κάνετε χωρίς τον υπολογιστή σας, αισθάνεστε ένα πάθος και μια

θανάσιμη έλξη. Το ίδιο δεν συμβαίνει με τον υπολογιστή σας που μπορεί άνετα να ζήσει και χωρίς εσάς, να «δοθεί» ξεδιάντροπα σε οποιονδήποτε χρήστη και σεις να κοιτάτε σαν απατημένος χαλίφης, που το χαρέμι σας το έσκασε με τη

λεγεώνα των ξένων. Τα προβλήματα της κοινής σας

σχέσης αφορούν μόνο εσάς και όχι αυτόν. Είπε ποτέ, κάποιος υπολογιστής σε ολόκληρο τον πλανήτη «χρειάζομαι αναβάθμιση»; Όχι! Και ξέρετε γιατί; Σκασίλα του για να μην πω «στα εισερχόμενά

του»! Εσείς αγωνιάτε, εσείς καρδιοχτυπάτε,

εσείς πληρώνετε! Και κει που τελειώνετε μια σημαντική εργασία για την καριέρα σας, «κολλάει». Η φρίκη πηγαινοέρχεται με ιλιγγιώδη ταχύτητα από την ψαλίδα στις φτέρνες και τούμπαλιν. Σβήνετε τον P.C άγαρμπα και όταν τον ξανανάβετε σας γράφει με εκπληκτικό σαρκασμό: «Ο τερματισμός δεν έγινε

σωστά. Άλλη φορά να σβήνετε τον υπολογιστή από το μενού έναρξη». Για να αποφύγετε τον θρυμματισμό του, κρατήστε μια λέξη- «μενού»- και ψάξτε όλα τα κρατημένα διαφημιστικά από πιτσαρίες και σουβλακερί. Παραγγείλτε και φάτε μέχρι σκασμού!Φάτε, φάτε, φάτε, πιείτε και τρία κιλά κόκα κόλα. Κατόπιν ρευτείτε μπροστά στην οθόνη. Το κείμενο δεν ξανάρχεται, αλλά γλιτώνετε το εγκεφαλικό. «Δίχως εργασία τίποτα δε με γλιτώνει, ας ρευτώ ηρωικά, στην χάι τεκ οθόνη»

it's friday. i watched it. american-reality-chef-designer-idol..........i mean the VP debate.here's the skinny.......senator biden won the debate. he was calm, sincere, pretty comfortable in his own skin , as it were, and offered up many, many important facts and points of serious interest. ( most of which were absolutely correct ). governor palin was telegenic and camera savvy. ( all her asides were loud enough for everyone to hear- though not on the podium to be interfered with) she started by asking if she could "call him joe" . so . . . . . . .she's a 'regular p e r s o n ' and he's a stuffed shirt- b e c a u s e there is no way he could have called her sarah - it would seem con-d e s c e n d - ing at worse and unprofes-sional at best. we c o n t i n u e with very little actual info from gov. palin ( alot of it - shall we say- stretched?) and much of it- here i am, you american folks , you. see me, like me- i am just like you- vote for me. and........... both candidates stayed very much on point. at some point when gov. palin was identifying, once more, with the 'average joe'- senator biden's response about knowing full well how it feels to be a single parent raising kids on his own etc. -he had a bit of a time trying not to choke up. personally i wondered how much of that was the fact that he was having to prove his 'humanity' in a debate with such a silly adversary. ( if she was a man- she would have been ridiculed as a choice for VP- the precedent of quayle notwithstanding). it was the only sincere moment of humanity in the debate and it came from biden- not palin, who probably would have given her eyeteeth for a televised moment like that. anyway-despite palin's hail-fellow-well-met colloquial will rogers folksy approach to debating- i have to tell you that a mccain presidency frightens me but- gosh darn it, jumpin' jehosephat and tarnation- a palin presidency scares the ba-cheezus outta me!

October 28, 1940Italy invades Greece

On this day in 1940, Mussolini's army, already occupying Albania, invades Greece in what will prove to be a disastrous military campaign for the Duce's forces.

Mussolini surprised everyone with this move against Greece; even his ally, Adolf Hitler, was caught off-guard, especially since the Duce had led Hitler to believe he had no such intention. Hitler denounced the move as a major strategic blunder. Ac-cording to Hitler, Mussolini should have concentrated on North Africa, continuing the advance into Egypt. Even Mussolini's own chief of army staff found out about the invasion only after the fact. But despite being warned off an invasion of Greece by his own generals, despite the lack of preparedness on the part of his military, de-spite that it would mean getting bogged down in a mountainous country during the rainy season against an army willing to fight tooth and nail to defend its autonomy, Mussolini moved ahead out of sheer hubris, convinced he could defeat the Greeks

in a matter of days. He also knew a secret, that millions of lire had been put aside to bribe Greek politicians and generals not to resist the Italian invasion. Whether the money ever made it past the Italian fascist agents delegated with the responsibility is unclear; if it did, it clearly made no difference whatsoever-the Greeks succeeded in pushing the Italian invaders back into Albania after just one week, and the Axis power spent the next three months fighting for its life in a defensive battle. To make matters worse, virtually half the Italian fleet at Taranto had been crippled by a Brit-ish carrier-based attack. Mussolini had been humiliated.

It was put up years ago by a real estate developer horrified that the debt was approaching $ 3 trillion. Some years ago, the clock stopped when the U.S. started running a sur-plus. But now it's running again , and when the debt struck $10 trillion recently, the owners had to impro-vise an extra number one.Are you surprised? Times Square's National Debt Clock, which has been tal-lying up money owed by the U.S. government since 1989, is running out of spaces.In September 2008, the dig-ital dollar sign was elimi-nated to make way for an extra digit—the "1" in $10 trillion (the national debt is currently $10.2 trillion). Now, a new clock is in the works that will make room

for a quadrillion dollars of debt, according to the Associ-ated Press. Anticipated completion is early 2009.A little history on the clock: It was created in 1989 by Man-hattan real estate developer Seymour Durst to inform the public about the nation's snowballing national debt (back then, it was $2.7 trillion). Seymour died in 1995, and the clock is now owned by his son, Douglas Durst.According to the BBC, some economists believe the $700

billion bailout plan could send the national debt level to $11 trillion, but person-ally, I think we could be looking at a debt level a lot higher than that by the time this financial crisis is over. The $700 billion bailout is just the start. What about all the bank bailouts and other measures the government is taking to right this sinking ship above and beyond the $700 billion package? The government will proba-bly have to throw a lot more money at this problem be-fore all is said and done.

Οι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες στο χώρο της Ολυμπίας στην Ηλεία της Πελοποννήσου χρονολογούνται πολλές χιλιάδες χρόνια πριν. Λαθεμένα ορίζουν οι νεώτεροι ιστορικοί το 776 π.Χ σαν έναρξη των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων. Το 776 π.Χ έγινε επανέναρξη των Αγώνων λόγω διακοπής των κατά την άδηλη εποχή, δηλαδή από τους Ομηρικούς χρόνους και μετά. Eπικρατεί δηλαδή η εντύπωση ότι κάποιοι ξαφνικά το 776 π. Χ έστησαν το σκηνικό των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων στην Ολυμπία, όπως λ. χ στήνει κάποιος πλανόδιος θίασος μιά θεατρική παράσταση. Και δυστυχώς χωρίς καν να σκεφτούμε ότι επί χρόνια τώρα μας εξαπατούν τούτο έγινε πιστευτό. Ώσπου όταν μεγαλώσαμε και μελετήσαμε την Ελληνική Αρχαιολογία, αποκαλύψαμε το μέγα ψεύδος. Η τραγικότητα της εποχής μας έγκειται εις το ότι η απάτη αυτή δεν περιορίζεται μόνον στην ημερομηνία ενάρξεως των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων , αλλά το ίδιο ψεύδος επεκτείνεται και στις Επιστήμες, και στις Τέχνες και στο Λόγο και σε όλες τις εκφάνσεις της ζωής μας . Η πρώτη γενεσιουργός εξαπάτηση ξεκινά απο τα δογματικά θεοκρατικά βιβλία , τα οποία θέλουν ως ημερομηνία γενέσεως του κόσμου, 6.000 περίπου χρόνια προ εποχής μας(Π.Ε) . Με τον τρόπο αυτό η διεθνής εξουσία κατορθώνει να κυβερνά τον κόσμο εδώ και 17 αιώνες, από τότε δηλαδή που με βίαια μέσα προσπάθησαν να σβυσουν το Ελληνικό Πνεύμα . Ομως το Ελληνικό Πνεύμα ζει. Δεν καταστρέφεται , δεν δολοφονείται

, δεν εξαφανίζεται , δεν φυλακίζεται. Αλλά αυτό είναι ένα άλλο θέμα. Η απόκρυψη όμως του παρελθόντος οδηγεί τον κόσμο σε επισφαλή και επικίνδυνη πορεία , γιατί το παρελθόν αποτελεί τον καθρέπτη του παρόντος και το παρόν σηματοδοτεί την πορεία του μέλλοντος.Η Αρχή των Αγώνων στην Ηρωική Εποχή Αγνοείται ακριβώς τις ήτον ο πρώτος ευρετής των αγώνων, πλην εις την Ελλάδα φαίνεται η αρχή αυτών κατά τον Ηρωικό αιώνα. Ο Υγίνος αριθμεί δεκαπέντε τοιούτους μέχρι του Αινείου, αλλ’ οι τέσσαρες πρώτοι δεν σώζονται και έτσι αρχίζουμε από τον πέμπτον. ΓΙΑ ΕΝΑ ΚΛΑΔΙ ΕΛΙΑΣ

Πάριδος επιτάφιον. Δέκατον τέταρτον, δε τον Αχιλλέα , όστις εώρτασεν εν τω Τρωικώ πολέμω επιτάφιον αγώνα του Πατρόκλου.Δέκατον πέμπτον, και τελευταίον λέγει τον Αινείαν, ότι εώρτασεν αγώνα του πατρός αυτού Αγχίσου. Δεν αναφέρει όμως τον Πυθιακό τον αρχαίοτατον όντα και εκείνον, και άλλους τινάς, και ίσως ανέφερεν τούτους εις την αρχήν του κεφαλαίου τούτου , όπερ απώλετο.(Διόδωρ. Μυθ. 273)Ο Ηρακλής Ιδρυτής των Αγώνων της ΟλυμπίαςΚατά την Μυθολογία ο Ηρακλής και τα αδέλφια του ήλθαν απο την Κρήτη στην Αρχαία Ολυμπία. Καθώς έπαιζαν κάποια μέρα στην αλάνα, ο Ηρακλής, που ήτο ο μεγαλύτερος αδελφός , πρότεινε στα αδέλφια του (τους Ιδαίους Δακτύλους) να αγωνισθούν στο τρέξιμο, ποιός θα βγεί πρώτος. Και τον κότινο της νίκης κέρδισε ο Ηρακλής. Ετσι απλά άρχισαν οι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες σε αμνημονεύτους χρόνους προ 45.000 ετών περίπου Π. Ε. Σημειωτέον ότι στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες αγωνίσθηκαν και ανεδείχθησαν Ολυμπιονίκες ο Ζευς , ο Απόλλων και άλλοι θεοί και ημίθεοι του Ελληνικού πανθέου αλλά και ήρωες, βασιλείς και ηγέτες ικανοί. Μετά την Μινωική και Μυκηναϊκή εποχή η Ελλάδα γύρω στο 800 π. Χ μπήκε στην Άδηλη Εποχή, ένα είδος Μεσαίωνα και παρακμής. Κατά την εποχή εκείνη είχαν σταματήσει οι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες. Δοκίμασαν τα πάντα για να βγει ο τόπος από την παρακμή: Νόμοι, Σχολεία, Δικαστές , Φύλακες, Ναοί κ. α, αλλά τίποτα δεν έγινε. Επιστρατεύθηκαν άνθρωποι της Γνώσης και της Τέχνης, αλλά εις μάτην και πάλι.Η Αναβίωση των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων Απογοητευμένοι τότε ρώτησαν το Μαντείο των Δελφών πως θα σταματήσει η παρακμή: Όμως αυτό έδινε στερεότυπα τον ίδιο πάντα χρησμό, που όμως δεν άλλαζε την κατάσταση. Τότε οι τρεις βασιλείς, Ιφιτος της Ηλιδος , Κλεοσθένης της Πίσσης και Λυκούργος της Σπάρτης συνελθόντες ζήτησαν και πάλι το χρησμό της Πυθίας. Και αυτή τους έστειλε τον αλλόκοτο χρησμό: «ΑΡΧΙΣΤΕ ΠΑΛΙ ΤΟΥΣ ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΚΟΥΣ ΑΓΩΝΕΣ»Μα το πρόβλημα για αυτούς ήτο πως θα σταματήσουν τους πολέμους, τις αρρώστειες, την πανουργία, το μίσος , την μήνιν, την αυτοδικία, το άδικο και την παρακμή . Οι αγώνες θα ξανάφερναν την Αρετή ; Και σαν να μην πίστεψαν την Πυθία επανήλθαν στον θεό Απόλλωνα και πήραν τα ίδια στερεότυπα λόγια:«Κάντε αθλητικούς αγώνες τώρα αμέσως» Ετσι ξανάρχισαν πάνω σε νέα βάση τους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες το 776 π. Χ. Από την

ημερομηνία αυτή αρχίζει η μέτρηση των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων, αφού από την χρονολογία αυτή αρχίζει και ο κατάλογος των ολυμπιονικών . Η μαρμάρινη πλάκα που βρέθηκε στην Ολυμπία με γράμματα της κλασσικής εποχής αναφέρει πως ο Κόρυβος νίκησε στον αγώνα του απλού σταδίου και πήρε στεφάνι. Από τότε οι αρχαίοι Ελληνες μετρούσαν τα χρόνια με βάση αυτή την Ολυμπιάδα, η οποία ονομάσθηκε ‘Κορυβιάς’ προς τιμήν του ΚορύβουΟι Σύγχρονοι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες Η αναβίωση των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων του 1896 στην Αθήνα υπήρξε ένα σημαντικό παγκόσμιο γεγονός , όμως έγινε πάνω σε σαθρές βάσεις. Οι νεώτεροι Ολυμπιακοί αγώνες έχουν εκφυλισθεί και κατά την ομολογία όλων βρίσκονται σε μεγίστη παρακμή . Ο κλάδος ελαίας αντικατεστάθη με τον κλάδον χρυσού. Ο πρωταθλητισμός πάει να καταστρέψει τον αθλητισμό με την επιστράτευση της βιοχημείας στην προετοιμασία των αθλητών. Οι αθλητές σήμερα καταπίνουν τεράστιες ποσότητες χαπιών και χημικών παρασκευασμάτων , που επιφέρουν την αύξηση της σωματικής τους επίδοσης και μυικής δύναμης. , με δυσάρεστες επιπτώσεις στους ίδιους και στην αθλητική ιδέα. Από το 1960 μέχρι το 1976 καταχωρίσθηκαν 30 θανατηφόρα κρούσματα αθλητών( «Σιτιους, Αλτιους , Φορτιους» , Χρίστος Μότσιας , Αθήνα, 1984) Όμως δεν είναι μόνον οι αγώνες που είναι σε παρακμή, αλλά και ο κόσμος ολόκληρος που παραπαίει μέσα στην ηθική σήψη, τον υλιστικό ευδαιμονισμό , τη βία και την οικολογική καταστροφή. Θέλησα λοιπόν να αποσπάσω ένα νέο χρησμό από την Πυθία για το πώς θα βγάλουμε τους σύγχρονους αγώνες από το τέλμα των αναβολικών, του χρηματισμού και της εμπορευματοποιήσεως . Επειδή αποφεύγει εδώ και 17 αιώνες να δέχεται τα στίφη των βέβηλων ανθρώπων στους Δελφούς, την συνήντησα νοερά μέσα στους βυθούς της σκέψεως και μου εκμυστηριεύθηκε τούτον τον χρησμό για να σωθούν οι Αγώνες και για να βγει ο κόσμος ολόκληρος από το τέλμα και την παρακμή :

«ΑΝΑΒΙΩΣΤΕ ΤΟΥΣ ΑΓΩΝΕΣ ΜΕ ΝΕΟ ΤΡΟΠΟ ΣΚΕΨΗΣ ΚΑΙ ΔΡΑΣΗΣ» Με το χρησμό της αυτό η Πυθία με έβαλε σε βαθιές σκέψεις. Tί θέλει άραγε να πει με τα λόγια αυτά; Ετσι άρχισα να ερευνώ το θέμα Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες από την Προϊστορία ως σήμερα. Διεπίστωσα ότι οι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες δεν είναι απλό πράγμα, αλλά η συνισταμένη της ζωής. Είναι δηλαδή η προάσκηση της νέας γενιάς για τον στίβο της κοινωνίας.
