EMPOWERING THE FUTURE LEADERS TODAY & TOMORROW OLDMUTUAL & NEDNAMIBIA EDUCATION TRUST Bursaries Consideration: Bursaries are awarded to successful applicants selected on merit who wish to study on a full-time or part-time basis for a first-time undergraduate degree, postgraduate degree or diploma (including B-Tech), at an accredited Higher Institution of Learning within the SADC region in the fields listed on the adjacent page: Science and Mathematics Disciplines Engineering and Architecture Medicine Banking and Finance Accounting Actuarial Studies Information and Communication Technology Other fields of studies that are regarded as scarce will be considered e.g. Maritime Law & Environmental Science Eligibility to apply for a Bursary: The bursaries are awarded to suitably qualified Namibians who are: A member of one of the participating trade unions; A solely financially-dependent child of a member of the participating trade union and under the age of 25; A solely financially-dependent grandchild or other blood relative to the member and; Under the age of 25. Institutions: Any accredited insitution of Higher Learning within the SADC Region. When to Apply: The Trustees of the Old Mutual and NedNamibia Education Trust meet once a year to review applications. Deadline for this year’s applications is 30th September 2013. Established in 2006, as part of the Old Mutual Group’s Black Economic Empowerment initiative, the Old Mutual & NedNamibia Education Trust provides bursaries to members of participating unions and their dependants.

These bursaries are intended to assist the beneficiaries in furthering their education at Institutions of Higher Learning within the SADC region.

By providing opportunities for educational development, the Old Mutual & NedNamibia Education Trust contributes to the social upliftment of previously disadvantaged Namibians.

It is our intention that through this initiative Namibians will be able to experience the advancement that education can bring.

The Bursary Fund:Old Mutual & NedNamibia Education Trust provides funding to study on a full-time or part-time basis for a first-time undergraduate degree, postgraduate degree or diploma (including B-Tech), at an accredited Higher Institution of Learning within the SADC region.

Participating Trade Unions: ■ MUN (Mine Workers Union of Namibia)

■ MANWU (Metal and Allied Namibian Workers Union)

■ TUN (Teachers Union of Namibia)

■ NAFAU (Namibian Food and Allied Workers Union)

■ PSUN (Public Service Union of Namibia)

■ NATAU (Namibia Transport and Allied Workers Union)

■ NANTU (Namibia National Teachers Union)

■ NAPWU (Namibia Public Workers Union)

■ NAFINU (Namibia Financial Institutions Union)

Member’s subscribing to the relevant trade union must be fully paid up; Member must be regarded by the relevant trade union as being a member in good standing;

Proof of relation and dependency must be provided.

Categories for Sponsorship: ■ Individuals in possession of Grade 12

■ Undergraduate students

■ Postgraduate students

The Bursary Covers: ■ Registration, tuition and exam fees payable directly to

the Higher Education Institution

■ Prescribed books and approved study material

■ Full board and lodging fees payable directly to the Higher Education Institution for full-time students, where applicable

■ Travel allowance payable to the student

■ Living allowance payable to the student

Award Distribution:Bursaries will be awarded each year and are awarded on the basis of academic performance and financial needs of the applicant.

Fields of Study:Bursaries are conditional upon proof of acceptance into a program of study.
