INTRODUCTION

The Camp Hill School District Reopening Plan allows the opportunity for your child to receive

instruction as a Camp Hill student in three ways: as a blended learner, as a remote learner, or through the

Capital Area Online Learning Association (CAOLA). As a blended or remote learner your child will

have access to the curriculum utilized by the school district. Blended and remote learners will also have

access to Camp Hill School District teaching and support staff for lesson and learning activity

development, in conjunction with recorded and live lessons.

Students utilizing the blended and remote learning models will be assigned a grade level teacher.

Students will be expected to follow the daily schedule for their grade level to access course materials and

instruction. Remote students will be assigned a “virtual seat” on the class roster. This seat will reserve

the students’ spot in the classroom in the event the district moves to Level 1 and resumes in person

instruction 5 days a week.

If your child is utilizing CAOLA as the learning option, he or she will have access to a curriculum

developed to match state standards and access to teachers that are provided in the CAOLA learning

platform. There will also be contact maintained with your child’s school counselor and a liaison from the

district to assist with any questions.

GOALS:

● Provide clear and consistent expectations for students and families.

● Provide quality on-line instruction utilizing Camp Hill School District curriculum and staff.

● Support students and families through consistent communication and access to instruction and

assistance to meet student needs.

ATTENDANCE

Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Level 2, attendance will be taken in the following manner:

● Blended Learners: attendance will be based on being physically present in the building and in

class

● Remote Learners: attendance will be based on a combination of login into Schoology during a

designated time as shown on the grade level schedule and completion of specified assignments

● CAOLA: attendance will be monitored by school personnel by checking student progress against

expected course completion rates outlined with school counselors

SCHOOLOGY EXPECTATIONS

All online instruction, K-12, must be delivered through Schoology, the Camp Hill School District’s

Learning Management System. All communication with students and parents should occur through

Schoology.

SCHOOLOGY COURSE ORGANIZATION

Each course in Schoology will have a “Course Headquarters” or “Class Information” folder. This folder

contains Teacher contact information, course syllabus or class overview.

Each course will also include a folder for each marking period. Open the marking period folder to find

your child’s work.

ACTIVITIES (LEARNING EXPERIENCES)

Activities include, but are not limited to, discussion forums, assignments, external digital tools and other

media accessed by students in Schoology. The activities must also be tied to the stated objectives and

standards of the course.

When designing engaging learning experiences, teachers will consider the following:

● The activities will be student-centered where the teacher is facilitating the experience rather than

becoming the “sage-on-the-stage.” Live instruction may be a combination of live lecture,

opportunities for students to raise their hand and ask questions, group work, interactive activities

and other opportunities for students to engage in collaborative or differentiated activities.

● The learning experiences will be manageable but also challenging.

● Group work may be included. This can be accomplished by using the breakout room feature in

Zoom during live virtual teaching, or by assigning asynchronous work to students that requires

them to collaborate with other students.

● Students will receive feedback on their learning through Schoology. Feedback will be based on

the results of these assessments, reflections and evaluations.

GRADING

Grading for the remote learning model will be consistent with grading practices in the brick-and-mortar

setting. Students should submit assignments and complete assessments in accordance with the policies

and procedures established by the teacher in each course. Grading requirements for each course will be

posted by teachers in the Schoology course.

SCHOOLOGY TIPS FOR STUDENTS

● Check your course agendas daily. This practice will ensure that you are prepared for each of your

classes every day.

● Check your Schoology calendar daily. You can download your Schoology calendar to your iOS,

Outlook or Google calendars.

● Check your Schoology announcements and updates. You can login to Schoology to see them or

you can have them sent to your mobile device or email.

● Stay in communication with your teacher. Login to your course, check your Schoology messages,

subscribe to Schoology course notifications, and know your teacher’s office hours, contact

information and/or availability.

● Be an active participant. Complete all readings, participate in discussions and submit activities

and assessments on time.

● Be proactive. Pay attention to due dates and don’t expect your teacher to remind you when

deadlines are approaching. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

● Save digital copies of your work for the entire year until you’ve received your final grade. It’s a

good idea to keep a copy of everything in your district Google Drive.

● Read the directions for assessments carefully. Some teachers may give “open notes/open internet”

assessments and other teachers may disallow outside sources. Be aware of the limitations before

you begin an exam or quiz.

● Let someone know if you are struggling. Students need to communicate with teachers or

counselors when they need assistance. A student cannot be helped if the problem is not known.

BLENDED LEARNING MODEL EXPECTATIONS AND

SCHEDULES (Level 2)

Level 2 Blended Learners:

● Students in Grades K-5 will receive in person instruction in the building on Monday,

Wednesdays, and Friday.

● On Tuesday and Thursday, students will login into Schoology according to the times designated

by their grade level schedules and complete assigned activities and class work to receive credit

for daily attendance.

● Students are expected to engage in live lesson opportunities as they are presented on Tuesday and

Thursday.

● Live lessons will be 20-30 minutes and consist of English/Language Arts, Math, Science/Social

Studies and/or Specials.

● Specialists, including art, music and guidance will follow the building level schedule on

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Live sessions will be offered on Tuesdays/Thursdays at the

designated times for each class.

● Students will follow a regular school day schedule including cycle day.

● Parents/students should check the calendar of activities in Schoology to know when live teaching

sessions, office hours, small group reviews and assessments are scheduled.

● In the event of a 24 to 72 hour closure of a school building or the district, blended learners would

utilize the same daily schedule by grade level, but instead of in person instruction in the building,

they will utilize Schoology to access lessons and log in for attendance purposes each scheduled

period.

REMOTE LEARNING MODEL EXPECTATIONS AND

SCHEDULES (Level 2)

Level 2 Remote Learners:

● Teachers in Grades K-5 will provide independent activities/assignments in Schoology on

Monday, Wednesdays, and Friday. Some assignments may include recorded lessons or videos by

the teacher.

● Tuesdays and Thursdays will be live lessons with the teacher at designated times.

● Live lessons will be 20-30 minutes and consist of English/Language Arts, Math, Science/Social

Studies and/or Specials.

● Kindergarten teachers will provide a minimum of two live lessons.

● Grades 1-5 will provide a minimum of three live lessons.

● Specialists (Art, Music, P.E., Guidance and 5 C’s) teachers will teach one live lesson to each

class at the designated times.

● During the “Schoology: Teacher Created Learning Activities” block, teachers may also hold

additional live sessions for small groups, intervention support, office hours, etc.

● The MTSS block may be assigned by the teacher for small group instruction lessons (i.e. Title 1

Reading, extra support for content areas, ELL, Special Ed, etc.).

● Band lessons will be scheduled on a specific day based upon your grade level during the

“Schoology: Teacher Created Learning Activities” block.

● Students will be assigned a “seat” in a grade level class and will follow a regular school day

schedule, including cycle day.

● Parents/Students will be expected to check the calendar of activities in Schoology to know when

live teaching sessions, office hours, small group reviews and assessments are scheduled.

● Students are expected to engage in live lesson opportunities as they are presented on Tuesday and

Thursday.

● Students are expected to log into Schoology at the designated times on the grade level schedule

each day and complete assigned activities to be considered present for attendance purposes.

BLENDED AND REMOTE LEARNING MODEL

EXPECTATIONS AND SCHEDULES (Level 3) Level 3 Blended and Remote Learners:

● In Level 3, or in the event of a full school or district closure beyond 72 hours, all learners will

follow a fully remote learning schedule Monday-Friday (see schedules below).

● Teachers in Grades K-5 will use Schoology to post daily assignments, recordings, etc. for

Monday - Friday. Some assignments may include live or recorded lessons and videos by the

teacher.

● Live lessons will be 20-30 minutes and may consist of English/Language Arts, Math,

Science/Social Studies and/or Specials.

● Kindergarten teachers will provide a minimum of two live lessons.

● Grades 1-5 will provide a minimum of three live lessons.

● Specialists (Art, Music, P.E., Guidance and 5 C’s) teachers will teach one live lesson to each

CAOLA LEARNING MODEL EXPECTATIONS AND

SCHEDULES

● GENERAL INFORMATION

○ Students enrolled in the Capital Area Online Learning Association (CAOLA) program

remain students of the Camp Hill School District.

○ Students must abide by the CAOLA program and plagiarism guidelines.

○ Students will be provided and expected to use their CHSD-issued laptop to complete the

online course work.

● ONLINE LEARNING GUIDELINES

○ It is essential for students to be supported while in the full-time CAOLA program.

Parents/guardians and school personnel (CAOLA Advisor, Principal, and School

Counselor) will monitor progress in courses, and collaborate, in order to encourage

student success.

○ Students will need parental/guardian support to gain the skills necessary to exhibit

effective time management and organizational skills, initiative, and motivation to learn.

○ Students who are not making progress in their enrolled courses may be withdrawn from

the CAOLA program.

● ATTENDANCE

○ State Law provides that parents/legal guardians are responsible for ensuring that their

student(s) attends school. Students taking online courses are expected to follow the

school calendar.

○ Attendance will be tracked.

○ Students not attending school as mandated by the law will be considered truant. Students

and their legal guardians are subject to local truancy laws and regulations.

○ Absences must be accompanied with proper documentation to the student’s home school

as outlined in the Camp Hill School District policy.

● PROGRESS MONITORING

○ A suggested schedule is included for parental/guardian reference to help in timely

completion of expected coursework.

● GRADING

○ The CAOLA percentage grade will be converted to the following CHSD grading system.

○ Students who do not finish a course by the specified deadline will earn a grade of zero for

the course.

● RELATED INFORMATION

○ Students will be required to take any state-mandated assessments.

○ Students may participate in all Camp Hill School District sponsored extracurricular

activities, programs, and events.
