WELCOME TO

2013

What started as a seed of an idea last year has now grown to a three-day festival, thanks to a lot of hard work and a resolute commitment to bring arts and culture to an accessible platform in Limerick city. We feel the programme truly has something for everybody. Elemental is a completely voluntary festival with a miniscule budget. We can only keep bringing entertainment, fun and culture to Limerick with your support.

Wherever possible, we have endeavoured to keep events free, as we know finances are limited for everybody. But we really would ask, if you enjoy what you see at Elemental this year and would like to see it happen again next year, please support us with a donation. This can be as little or large as you like. We have no upper limit, you’ll be pleased to hear!

At some of the venues, you’ll see vessels, carafes, vases, pouches, receptacles and canisters, looking hungry and forlorn. Please help make their day, and ours, by making a donation.

We really do appreciate your support

ROCHE’S HAngIng gARDEnS

In the early 19th century, long before exotic fruits and vegetables were common place in supermarkets, long before supermarkets for that matter, William Roche, a banker, struck on the idea to build his own garden in the city. This was a marvel of innovation. He constructed greenhouses, where he grew the most exotic fruits and vegetables imaginable at the time, including oranges, pineapples and grapes. This talk will tell of the life of William Roche and his famed gardens.

Elemental is underpinned by a green ethos. We want to make it easy for you to do your part to keep the festival, and the city, clean and green. Here are some simple steps to think about while you are enjoying the festival:

gREEnIng THE FEST

- Take the bus or your bike instead of the car.- keep an eye out for the ‘STOP food waste’ campaign in cafes and restaurant. - Only order what you really need and finish what you do order.- Avail of the segregated litter units located throughout the festival.

- Take part in the upcycling workshops, seedbomb installation and Fairtrade demonstration stands.- Check out the anti-litter mascots and follow their advice on keeping your city clean.

WILDROUTES BOxES BIODIVERSECITY The Wildroutes project has been running since 2011 as a long-term, socially-engaged art project, to promote and raise public awareness of urban ecology and biodiversity in the city. The long-term aim is to see Limerick as a biophilic city, where nature is encouraged into the urban area to create a healthier ecosystem for all inhabitants.Bug boxes are made from found materials, repurposed to create a place in which small invertebrates such as bees and other insects can hibernate or gestate over winter. The natural habitat and populations of these creatures is in decline globally and so it is important to allow a space for them in our city, as they are essential for a healthy, functional ecosystem.

See how many bug boxes you can find around the city during Elemental!www.wildroutes.weebly.com and find on Facebook for more info and images 17
