Microsoft announced a major restructuring of its business, to focus on services and devices aimed at users migrating from
traditional PCs to tablets and smartphones.
A federal judge rules that Apple conspired to raise the retail prices of e-books in violation of antitrust law. Apple plans to
appeal the ruling.
The bad news continues for the personal computer market. Worldwide PC shipments were down 11% during the 2nd
quarter of 2013, according to Gartner, the fifth straight quarterly decline. Consumers continue to shift purchases to tablets
and smartphones.
The three-month average for global semiconductor sales in May was $25 billion, an increase of 4.6% from the previous
month, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). The jump in sales was the largest sequential monthly
increase in sales since March 2010. The increases were driven by growth in phone sales and increase in prices of
commodity memories.
