Dear Friends
B etween September and February, we will take Handel and Bach to Italy, continue our series at St John’s Smith Square
in London, return to Wigmore Hall with two programmes, and add further releases to our harmonia mundi portfolio: the world premiere recording of Francesco Conti’s L’ISSIpILe and François Couperin’s incredibly moving LeçonS De ténèBreS.
We look forward to new collaborations with Bejun Mehta, Sophie Bevan, elizabeth Watts, ed Lyon and Anna Stèphany, to be re-united with LnM regulars Lucy Crowe, John-Mark Ainsley, Lawrence Zazzo, Mary Bevan and Jonathan McGovern, as well as introducing new young talent such as nicholas Scott, Anat edri and Michal Czerniawski.
please join us for this programme of favourites and unknown ba-roque gems.
With all good wishes,

»The playing and singing are beyond reproach.
The overall clarity is breathtaking, demonstrating conductor David Bates’ remarkably clear ideas about what this music
should sound like [...] The whole makes for exciting, immediate musicmaking. You want to hear
what comes next. {Musical toronto}

.. Mary Bevan’s bewitching Susanna. It was entirely appropriate that the first night should conclude with Bevan
receiving this year’s Exceptional Young Talent award from the Critics’ Circle, because the perfection of her singing is allied to
a natural dramatic gift. {Independent}

one of Baroque music’s most popular works, yet underrated for its subtlety of expression, Vivaldi’s GLorIA is brought together with a collection of virtuosic soprano arias, alongside Handel’s recently discovered GLorIA and his choral tour de force DIxIt DoMInUS.
We are delighted to be joined by Sophie Bevan, one of the most celebrated young sopranos in the UK.
»But the most touching singing came from
Sophie Bevan as IpHIS: her beguiling soprano had an instrumental clarity as well as a newly blossoming
richness of tone. {the Guardian}
