Dear Sirs!
Increasing power consumption, CO reduction, growing mobility or progressing au-
tomation – all of these future megatrends are not possible without powerful elec-
tric drives. The electrification of the automobile powertrain system is considered
crucial, as the whole sector is facing difficulties resulting from the substitution of
the complete conventional powertrain. Besides advancing ideas on the design of
powerful electric drives, the organization of the manufacturing processes and sys-
tems is of great importance.

E|DPC 2011 - The first International Electric Drives Production Conference offers an out-
standing platform for the exchange of experiences for developers, researchers and po-
tential users. The focus of the conference is set on the presentation of highly innovative
products from various industries as well as manufacturing processes and strategies. Fol-
lowing the conference, there will be an accompanying poster presentation, an informa-
tive industrial exhibition, compelling tutorials, exciting technical tours and a diverting
and interesting entertainment program.
The European Metropolitan Area Nuremberg, the venue, is on the one hand the undis-
puted industrial capital of Bavaria with leading manufacturers of electric motors, controls
and gears, competitive automotive suppliers and automation specialists. Corresponding
trade fair shows like the SPS/Drives, the PCIM (Power Electronics/Intelligent Mo-
tion/Power Quality) or the SMT/Hybrid underline the importance of this region in the
electric drives branch. On the other hand Nuremberg is a historical, romantic and mod-
ern city, all in one with interesting museums, monuments, art galleries, churches, parks,
restaurants and cafés. This dynamic and attractive location having an excellent reputa-
tion world-wide will inspire the participants of the E|DPC 2011.
On behalf of the Local Organizing and the International Program Committee, I wish you a
successful 1st International Electric Drives Production Conference and an enjoyable stay
in Nuremberg.

2.00 pm – 5.00 pm, Room 0.142 EUR 80,-
The aim of this tutorial is the detailed evaluation of businessmodels and market potentials for attractive application fieldsthat use the stationary and in-motion inductive power transferfor electric vehicles.
In this tutorial we present the fundamental thoughts andselected methodologies to systematically develop scenarios ofthe future automotive market. Based on these, we show how tosuccessfully find a strategy for your company to enter the marketof electric drives and cars by adapting the R&D-organisation andprocesses to develop these .
Electrical steel sheet is the key material for the traction motors ofHybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and electric vehicles (EV), so itsproper usage contributes the dynamic performance of HEV/EV.
The goal of this tutorial is to introduce the participants to highlyproductive simulation tools that are already established in theindustry, such as Maxwell 2D/3D, Simplorer, Q3D, etc. .
This tutorial will lead the audience through a full design examplefor an electrical machine traction drive. The design starts withgiven requirements, goes through an analytical pre-design withdetailed finite element and thermal calculations and closes withthe traction drive being modelled in a full system simulation.
