GeneralThe dredger shown on page 2 has been constructed in 1966 on the Yard Orenstein & Koppel AG, Lübeck, Germany, for Möbius AG in Hamburg. The rules of German Authority SBG are accepted.After several jobs on a number of sites, the dredger has been reconstructed and highly modernized in the year 2003 especially for a Job on the Highway A 20.Electric motors as well as pumps have been renewed. Power supply and power distribution had been changed from direct current to three-phase-current.Two additional power generator sets with a power of 1710 kW each have been installed on additional pontoons. With the help of transformers the 6KV high voltage electric motor for the under-water-dredge-pump will be driven with a power of 1600 KW.The cutter drive together with the lower part of the cutter-ladder will be driven hydraulically by most modern cutter installation of 270 KW. Hydraulic driven winches as well as a hydraulic driven spudcarriage completing the dredge into a high power tool.A complete measuring system is installed for the control of dredging in an economical way.After completing his very successful last job already 8 months later in Lübeck, the dredger has been dismounted and been transported to Hamburg, where he is still laying idle.

ShipbuildingThe complete dredger is dismountable into a number of five pontoons with following dimensions in detail:

The two power aggregates as well as the main trafo are located on additional Flexi-Float pontoons to be coupled on main pontoons.

Assembled the dredger has following main dimensions in total:

The GAP given in Appendix 1 is showing the details of the dredge in general with a dredging depth by cutting of -18m. All stability criteria according to SBG are strictly confirmed. Above the deck the Dredge Master House is located for the best view around. In detail the pontoons divided as follows:

All necessary voltage and power can be seen in that detail chart. The container for power supply is completely available. Two generator sets each 2000 KVA as well as synchronization equipment are to be bought extra.

Machinery In pontoon 3 has been installed: Electric distribution board for several user as well as hydraulic pumps for winch drive and the two small power aggregats .According to Main Data Sheet (page 2) these are:

The drive for hydraulic pumps for the cutter drive as well as the drive for the jet water pump is done by an electric motor. This electric motor is for cutter drive when working as a cutter suction dredger or for jet pump drive when working as a plain suction dredger.Hydraulic system for spud carriage cylinder as well as for spud hoisting cylinders is also installed within this pontoon.

Dredging System

Drive for cutter headThe cutter drive has been built for a maxing depth for – 18m is installed as lower part of the cutter ladder with a length of 5,15 m. The cutter itself is a 5-blade crowncutter type 10 CB-AL-1455-180-Vo4 and is driven by a Hägglunds Hydraulic motor MB 400 with 180 KW at 30 Rpm. This lower part of the ladder with complete hydraulic drive is of standard from I H C dredger 5014 C and has to be ordered separately at IHC.

Dredge PumpThe high voltage electric motor drives the dredge pump. The situation as an Under Water Pump is especially designed for highest concentration of mixture.In Appendix 1 the possible output is shown for different length of pipe line.The dredge pump of Type 500/1400 is at a power of 1600 KW for a mixture of 1,8 m³/sec or 6500 m³/h at a height of about 60 m WC.

Spud EquipmentDuring cutting the dredger will be moved about 45 ° to each side, portside and starboard. This will be done by the side winches with the working spud to be used as an anchor. The holding spud with a diameter of 762 mm and a length of 23,5 m has a fixed position in the pontoon and can just be hoisted and lowered by a hydraulic ram. This holding spud will be used as anchor as well, but only when the working spud will be removed to another position by the spud slide. Working spud has the same dimensions as the holding spud. Spud slide has a stroke of about 3,5 m, means three times of the height of the cutter head or just say three cuts. Spud slide and hoisting system

Plain Suction EquipmentWhen dismounted the lower cutter piece a flange for connection of an additional suction pipe of 600 mm on the main ladder is given. This suction pipe has to be ordered separately. The jetwater will be transported to one nozzle closed to the suction mouth and is loosening the soil to be dredged.In addition the jetwater pump has been installed .This pump will be driven by an electric motor, due to the absence of the cutter drive. With a capacity of about 1000 m³/h and a head of about 6 bar the right dimensions are given.

Winch SystemOn dredge M 500 there are following winches to be installed:

• Ladder hoisting winch Type HW 150, pull of 15 t, hydraulic driven• 2 Side winches of 15 t at 24 m/min, hydraulically driven• 4 Moving winches for plain suction device.

Dredge Master HouseFor a good view around, the dredge master house has been constructed at the highest point of the dredge. From this point the dredge will be handled by the dredge master, all necessary instruments and steering device are here installed.A density- and flow rate measuring system does the dredge master help to check the output of his dredge as well as the velocity of mixture in the delivery pipe. Measuring points for an ACC system are installed for a good evaluation.Due to the order of the “Atomaufsichtsbehörde” the transmitter for density- and flow meter had to be dismounted. To get it installed again on board , the next owner of the dredge M 500 had to show a so called “Umgangsgenehmigung” for this nuclear device. Only then the dredge can be used in an economical way.
