DESCRIPTION
Basics of ELCB ( Earth leakage circuit breaker )
Citation preview
ELCB
Circuit breakers are electrical switches that automatically turn off electrical flow when a problem with the circuit is detected.
Electrical flow is constantly monitored, and when an overload or short circuit is detected, the circuit breaker breaks the flow of electric current. e.g. Miniature circuit breaker
ELCB• ELCB is an electrical safety device specifically designed
to immediately switch the electricity off when electricity "leaking" to earth is detected at a level harmful to a person using electrical equipment. ELCB offers a high level of personal protection from electric shock.
• ELCB is often known by other names, RCD (residual current device) or safety switches.
• ELCB have another important advantage - they reduce the risk of fire by detecting electrical leakage to earth in electrical wiring and accessories. This is particularly significant in older installations
ELCB• Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers (Residual Current
Devices) is safety devices that offer that additional protection.
• ELCB is used in areas that have high levels of earth impedance.
• These devices have the primary purpose of reducing the risk of shock in the event of a current flow to the earth.
ELCB• Electric current charges that are not strong enough to
trip a regular circuit breaker are still enough to injure or even kill a human. These charges can lie in wait in a piece of metal equipment, without the protection offered by more sensitive circuit breakers.
• Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers are sensitive enough to detect even tiny amounts of current present in faulty metal electrical equipment.
ELCB• ELCB work on the principle "What goes in must come
out". They operate by continuously comparing the current flow in both the Active (supply) and Neutral (return) conductors of an electrical circuit.
• If the current flow becomes sufficiently unbalanced, some of the current in the Active conductor is not returning through the Neutral conductor and is leaking to earth.

ELCB• ELCB, is an electrical device that disconnects a circuit
whenever it detects that the flow of current is not balanced between the phase ("hot") conductor and the neutral conductor. The presumption is that such an imbalance may represent current leakage through the body of a person who is grounded and accidentally touching the energized part of the circuit. A shock possibly lethal is likely to result from these conditions; ELCB are designed to disconnect quickly enough to prevent such shocks.

ELCB ELCB is used for protection against electrical
shock it is designed for operate when leakage current is ≥ 30 mA.
Operating time is ≤ 30 ms.
ELCB is used for protection against fire because of leakage current it is designed for operate when current is ≥ 100 mA
