Mr. Elbert made his earthly arrival on June 16, 1959 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Retha Lee Stephens
and Hoover Nicholson, Sr.
In the same City, 60 years later on March 11, 2020 Elbert
made his heavenly transition home to be with the Lord.
He wasn't alone when he silently left us. He was in the presence of his loving family, his sisters Georgia
Stephens, Cathylean Beals and his godbrother Kenneth
W. Cattenhead.
Elbert was one of four children blessed to this union. He matriculated in the Jersey City Public School System. He
was a graduate of the Lincoln High School also located
in Jersey City. Elbert always been a hard worker and self supporter. He knew he had a certain flair for life and all
that it offered. He was determined to make and that he
did!
Elbert held many positions with several companies. He
began his employment at Shop-Rite when it was originally located on route 440 in the year 2000. He was
gainfully employed there until his health would not allow
him to keep the customers smiling. Elbert was also employed by the Jersey City Board Education at PS #34
for a number of years.
Elbert a gregarious and well rounded star of the show!
Everything he did he, DID IT HIS WAY!!
Elbert was known and loved by soooo many
countless number of family, friends and his
beloved customers. He was known at Shop-Rite as
the King
He knew and loved every aspect of his job at Shop-Rite.
If any coworker or customer wanted to know something,
Elbert was the "go to guy" Just ask and he will tell
you.
Elbert was truly, truly a very kind hearted person.
If you were in need of something he was right
there. If Elbert had, you had. He would do for
anyone.
Elbert was a fashion guru like none other. He loved
to dress and smell his best every time he stepped
out of the door, no one had to tell him.
Elbert always looked and smelled good. He
already knew, and didnt need no ones approval.
He would let you know, "don't touch me". He
will be remembered by so many things.
Especially that million dollar ear to ear smile.
Elbert was a member of the Miracle Temple Fire
Baptized Holiness Church, currently known
today as the Miracle Temple Pentecostal Church
under the pastorate of his friend and sister in
Christ for over 40 years, Elder Doris Cherry.
Elbert served in many capacities including choir
director for several choirs. Giving God a good
praise was Elbert's life. If he wasn't at work he
was at church. If not his own he was somewhere
giving God to glory.
