El Sueño Existe is a vibrant fusion of Welsh and Latin American music, dance, poetry, film and political discussion, taking inspiration from Victor Jara, the Chilean theatre director and singer-songwriter who has become an enduring symbol of the struggle for human rights and justice across Latin America.
This is our fourth festival since we began in 2005. Recent festivals spotlighted political and social advances in Venezuela and Bolivia, and movements of cultural resistance and developments in ecological alternatives in Wales.
This year, there will be a resplendent mix of Chilean, Bolivian, Peruvian and Welsh music and dance, with highlights including the return of Venezuelan troubador Gerardo Osal, Welsh folk legend Dafydd Iwan and Chilean poet Alfredo Cordal.
The 2011 programme is developing the theme Yma o Hyd / A Pesar de Todo / Against All Odds (We’re still here), linking Dafydd Iwan’s anthem of Welsh culture with similar inspiring stories from Latin America.
So, whether you want to think, learn, relax, sing, play or dance – there’s something for everyone at this unique festival held in the beautiful surroundings of the Dyfi Valley in Machynlleth, Wales.
