Dear All,
Less than one week to go until our annual winter concert—so please keep Thursday, 13th December free and come and join us from 13:00 at the Hotel “Salut”, the conference-hall “Rubin” (Отель Салют, коференц-зал Рубин http://www.hotelsalut.ru/conference/krasnyy-konferents-zal/). This is just a short drive from the school. The winter concert provides all classes a chance to demonstrate how hard they have been working during the term and we look forward to sharing this special concert with you. This year the Primary will sing songs and show a small presentation, Secondary School will present a musical little play entitled “James Bond”.
That being said, the school this week has been filled with children practising their lines and joining together as a school to sing along to a selection of entertaining songs.
The student council has been busy this term and despite a hectic week of concert rehearsals we would like to share some information about the charity work they have been supporting this term. If you recall, early in November, the Student Council were selling poppies for the Royal British Legion. This week we were in-formed that the appeal in Moscow has raised the grand total of 102,866.50 Rubles which is already being used to support those in need. As always, we thank you for your continued support. Also, we are still col-lecting warm clothes for one more week, so if you have any warm clothes to donate please send them into school up until Friday the 14thof December.
This week we welcomed our Regional Head of School, Mr Michael Clack to Moscow and he took the oppor-tunity to visit our classes to ensure that we are achieving the highest standards of teaching and learning possible. We look forward to welcoming him back in the New Year as we move forward with our CIS jour-ney.
Kindest regards,
Nicola Hemingway

We have had a busy week in Early Years preparing for our winter concert! This week we constructed our
costumes and had several rehearsals with the whole school. We also made decorations for the school
Christmas tree and participated in the tree lighting event on Monday. Our class has had lots of fun playing
outside in all the snow that has fallen this week as well! The holidays are getting closer and we look for-
ward to finishing the term with more celebrations and fun!
EYFS
Year One enjoyed many interesting learning experiences this week. Simun’s Mum, Mrs Tea, introduced them to Croatia and gave them Licitar hearts to hang on the Christmas Tree after ex-plaining the history of the celebratory biscuit. The children also made decorations to hang on the tree in the foyer. In Maths, they had fun learning about position, which has important implica-tions for the study of geometry.

Another fun-packed week for Year 2 as we head into the festive period. This week we have enjoyed rehearsing our Winter Concert performances in primary. They are looking great and Year 2 are really standing out. So many beautiful voices. We are completing assessments this week as we want to avoid the run up to Christmas which can be quite hectic. A lot of focus-work has been done, particularly in Math but the results have paid off for many! Another successful round of assessments. We ended the week with a very enjoyable trip to Kolomenskoye alongside Year 1. The children are learning about Christmas in more depth as part of our “Celebrations” unit in Topic. The day involved Christmas-tide rituals, traditional songs, traditional dress-up for Christmas, festivities and pancakes and tea. Very nice!
Year 2
There seems to be so much happening in the school this week. A highlight of the week is always our
weekly trip to the sports hall with Miss Anna! This week the class learnt handball skills. They are making
very pleasing progress. On Friday the class joined the Year 5 class for a drama lesson and we were asked
to do a small one act play. Our class has been practicing hard for the winter concert. We have two items
to sing. We hope we will have the support of our parents.

Christmas is around the corner and the children are being swept up in the spirit of the
season. However, our class has also been studying other festivals of light during Topic
and our class has learnt about Hanukkah. Every day of Hanukkah the class has lit a can-
dle on the menorah to commemorate this event. On Thursday, the class accompanied
Santa to EIS East dressed as elves. We would like to thank Miss Kate for designing our
costumes and sourcing the materials. We would also like to thank Mrs Machida, Mrs
Bonilla, Mrs Bruce and Mrs Kharetdinova for their help in cutting out and making the
elf outfits.
Year 5
Our class is working hard preparing our item, the very traditional
song sung at this time of the year, “The Little Drummer Boy”, for the
Christmas Concert. We hope that the parents will give us their sup-
port on Friday. This next week, Russia is celebrating their Constitu-
tion on the 12th December. It therefore appropriate that the class
learnt about debating and how to conduct a debate.
Year 6
This week in Science the Year 7 students discovered how to make their own pH indicator solu-tion from red cabbage and then used it, successfully, to test a variety of substances to determine if they were acid, alkaline or neutral.
In History, the pupils have been studying the medieval period and the diets of the people from those times. To help envisage the average food of a medieval peasant, Mr Berkeley and pupils took part in a live cooking activity to create their own medieval pottage. Very tasty indeed!

Last Saturday 1st December was the annual IWC winter market and concert at the Radisson SlavyanskayaHotel at Kievskaya. Each we are happy to assist with the event to help raise money for charity. Ivan Berkov in Year 7 performed a solo performance on the saxophone to delight the audi-ence. Accompanied by Miss Katya on the piano, we thank them very much for the recital and the maturity and confidence Ivan showed in handling the occasion. Well done!!
