Getting started

eInput is a web-based application that integrates with InputAccel to securely scan, display and index images and data directly within Internet Explorer. Multiple remote users can scan and index at the document creation source locations and then transmit documents to the web server for access by InputAccel.

Intended audience This guide discusses installation of eInput. This guide explains how to install and configure eInput, as well as other applications required to use eInput.

This guide is designed for system administrators, systems analysts, and web site developers who are responsible for:

• Installing and configuring external systems required by eInput • Installing and configuring eInput

This guide anticipates an audience experienced with the following: • Working familiarity with web and application servers • Working knowledge of HTML and scripting languages including JavaScript Server Pages

(JSP) commonly used with web servers

Suggested reading For more information about eInput, refer to the following related documentation:

• eInput Release Notes • eInput Customization Guide and Documentation Index (eInput help) • eScan Guide • eIndex Guide • eInput Client Console Guide • eInput Server Console Guide • eStatus Guide

For more information on tuning garbage collection for Java Virtual Machine, refer to http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/gc5.0/gc_tuning_5.html.

Enabling SSL SSL, or Secure Socket Layer, is a technology which allows web browsers and web servers to communicate over a secured connection. This means that the data being sent is encrypted by one side, transmitted, then decrypted by the other side before processing. This is a two-way process, meaning that both the server AND the browser encrypt all traffic before sending out data.

To enable SSL for eInput:

1. If you are running a 1.3 JVM, download JSSE 1.0.3 (or later) from http://java.sun.com/products/jsse/ and either make it an installed extension on the system, or set an environment variable JSSE_HOME that points at the directory into which you installed JSSE.

2. Create a Windows certificate keystore by executing the following command: %JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA

and specify a password value of "changeit".

3. Uncomment the "SSL HTTP/1.1 Connector" entry in $CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml and modify as necessary.

For more information, refer to http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/ssl-howto.html

Upgrading from a previous release

Upgrading to eInput 2.0 does not require uninstalling the previous release. On the server side, eInput can be installed in parallel with the current version. However, on the client side, the previous PixTools/Distributed Imaging ActiveX should be removed from the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel before installing the new PixTools/Distributed Imaging ActiveX.

Note:

The eInput 2.0 installer upgrades PixTools to version 7.5, so it is recommended to backup the WINNT\PIXTRAN folder before installing eInput 2.0.

The PixTools Distributed Imaging Client ActiveX upgrades PixTools to version 8.0, so it recommended to backup the WINNT\PIXTRAN folder (if present) before installing PDI ActiveX on a client workstation.

Installing eInput

eInput is a web-based application that integrates with your InputAccel application. To ensure a smooth installation, perform these installation steps in the listed order.

Important installation notes Before you begin installing eInput, please note the following important installation recommendations and considerations:

• IA Client 5.2.3 or 5.3 should be installed before installing eInput. • All eInput installations must be done using a local administrator account for the server. A

domain account with local administrator rights will also work. • All installations must be done directly on the server, not through a remote logon session. • It is necessary to install Internet Explorer 6.0 or Internet Explorer 7.0 on the workstation

where eInput will be installed.

System components eInput includes the following system components:

• eInput Server - the server component of eInput. Runs within an application server (Tomcat) and communicates with eInput clients and with the InputAccel Server.

• PixTools/Distributed Imaging — a toolkit that provides the core functionality of eInput. • J2IA connector — a Java implementation of the InputAccel Client that runs on the

eInput Server and forms the link between eInput and the InputAccel Server. • Retry Monitor — a sub-component of the eInput Server that periodically checks for

documents that were not able to create batches. • eInput Server Console — a web application that allows an administrator to configure

settings for the server running eInput. • eInput Client Console — a web application that enables users to monitor and edit

batches that have not yet been sent to the InputAccel Server; allows users to view status of all batches.

• eScan — the remote scanning component of eInput that enables users to remotely create InputAccel batches, capture documents from scanners and files, index them, and send them via the Internet back to the InputAccel Server in their corporate offices. Upon remote connection to the eInput Server via a Web browser, the module components deploy and install automatically.

Adding and assigning the eInput admin role for eInput Server Console You must create an eInput admin role and assign that role to a user in order to access eInput Server Console. After creating the eInput admin role, you will then need to assign the eInput admin role to the user(s) responsible for eInput Server Console.

Note: This role only needs to be added once, after you install Apache Tomcat. It is not required if you reinstall eInput 2.0, unless you uninstall Tomcat and delete the Tomcat conf folder.

To add the eInput admin role:

1. Open the tomcat-users.xml file in a text editor such as Windows Notepad. The default location is C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\conf\.

2. Add the required eInputAdminRole. For example: <role rolename="eInputAdminRole" description="eInput administration role"/>

3. Add a link to this role on the appropriate user record. For example: <user username="admin" password="secret" fullName="" roles="admin,manager,pdiadmin,eInputAdminRole"/>

4. Restart the Tomcat service.

After the steps are done, you can use the username and password of the user to which the eInputServerRole was assigned to access the eInput Server Console.

Confirming eInput installation Perform the following steps to confirm that eStatus has successfully installed.

To confirm the installation:

1. After the installation is done and the computer has been rebooted, open Tomcat Manager to make sure eInput.war has been deployed successfully. Go to Start > Programs > Apache Tomcat 5.5 > Tomcat Manager.

2. Confirm that the eInput web application is listed and the status is Running.

Note: If the eInput web application is not in the list of Tomcat applications, the installation program failed to deploy it to Tomcat. Refer to the “Deploying eInput.war” section for information on how to deploy eInput.war file manually.

eInput Installation Guide 2.0 Licensing eInput

© 2007 EMC Corporation 13 Nov-07

Deploying eInput.war The eInput.war file contains a collection of JavaServer pages, servlets, Java classes, XML files, tag libraries and static Web pages (HTML and related files) that together creates the eInput web applications. The steps below describe how to manually deploy and undeploy the eInput.war file.

Select WAR file to upload — enter the eInput.war file location ([program files]\EMC Captiva\eInput\), then select the Deploy button.

To undeploy eInput.war:

1. Open Tomcat Manager (Start > Programs > Apache Tomcat 5.5 > Tomcat Manager or go to http://localhost:8080 and select the Tomcat Manager link).

2. Select the Web Applications link.

3. Select the check box next to einput.war, then select the Undeploy button.

Licensing eInput eInput, as well as eScan, eIndex, and eStatus, uses a licensing system that enables EMC Corporation, as well as third–party module developers to regulate how their software is used. The eInput Client Console client will not be able to access the server until you have a valid license installed. A user will also be unable to upload or download batches.

• You must purchase a license for each eInput server. • You must also purchase a license for each user who will access the server. This is a

concurrent user license. For example, a 200 connection license means that no more than 200 users can upload documents at a single point in time.

To meet your business needs, additional licensing options are also available. Contact EMC Corporation to request an eInput license file. Once you have a license file, you can install it through the eInput Server Console web application. Refer to the eInput Server Console documentation for more information on how to install the eInput license.
