Brother Knights: As we start the month of Sep- tember, let’s look back at all the activities of July. The Council started with the annual Boat Trip on the De- troit River with a beautiful night, great weather and unforgettable friendship. Co-chairmen Joe Kronk and Joe Reardon PGK have chaired this event for about ten years. We had attendance of a hundred plus people which is up from last year’s count, great job guys, thank you. Next we had the Annual Council Picnic with ap- proximately 200 people (also up from last year). We started with a beautiful day and Mass with Fr. Den- nis Kauffman from Catholic Central. The food, games and lots of fun came next. This was chaired by Kevin Vissotski, Todd Waldo, Greg Knoph and John Widmer as our target in the dunk tank. Also let us not forget our cooking crew Jerry Miller, Dennis Kelly, Steve Gierak and his son Steve supported by Mark Kronk. Thanks again everyone. We honored Pat and Kay Casey as the Family of the Year for 2009-10 at the picnic. At the monthly general meeting, we honored Joe Reardon PGK for his leadership over the past two years as Grand Knight, Sam Aldridge for the Knight of the Year for 2009-10, Larry Kenney PGK for Knight of the Month, and Mark and Carol Kronk for the Family of the Month for July, 2010. Congratulate and thank them when you see them for all their help. Remember members, to send me any person’s or family’s name for Knight or Family of the Month and a short reason why they should be honored. They will be selected by a vote by the officers of your council at the Offi- cer’s Meeting on the second Monday of the month. The Council participated in the annual State K of C, Detroit Tiger Day. We started with a Mass with Fr. Kauffman, followed by coffee, donuts and fruit, then a bus ride to the game. All of this was chaired by Ken Shureb and his wife Janet, another big thank you. Quick reminder for this month is the D of I lunch- eon and card party on Sunday, the 26th at noon. Closing on a cheerful note, John Widmer’s sons joined our council; they took their 1st. Degree on Au- gust 4th. Mark and Erin Gibson proudly, and most

happily, announce the birth of their first

child, Grady Ryan. Grady was born July

12th and came in smiling at 7 lbs., 13 oz

and 20-1/2 inches long. Equally proud grandparents PGK

Dick and Vicki Gibson and John and Adrienne Brody

waited patiently outside the door at U of M’s Children’s

Hospital.

Another happy birth announcement is also made by

Brother Knight Kevin Kosco who proudly let’s us know of

the birth of Michael Robert Kosco who came into the

world at 9 lb 7oz. on July 10th. All of us remember

Michael’s grandfather, our friend the late Gerry Kosco.

As always, we all pray that these two new little guys have

a God blessed life and seats in the first degree class of 2028

await them both.

Kevin and Ellen Twomey proudly, announce the birth

of their third child, Margurite Joan. “Maggie” was born

July 31st weighing 7 lbs., 12 oz and 20-1/2 inches long.

Proud grandparents Pat and Judy Twomey and Dave and

Barb Kozlowski made the journey to Chicago for the joy-

ous occasion.

Would the unruly boys from the SMR class of 1964 who

disrupted Sr. Eula’s Biology class by taking the gold fish

from the tank and hiding them from the good sister, turn

yourself into the office? (Just some of the interesting stuff

you hear at the lounge).

What a bus trip but not a Tiger victory! First-time Chair-

man Ken Shureb worked hard to put together the trip to

the ball game that consisted of 51 members and guests.

Starting with 11am mass at the Council officiated by Fr.

Dennis Kauffman, a continental breakfast followed. Re-

freshments on the bus ride, tickets to a very hot K of C

ball game. Those same refreshments on the bus ride home

made it a little more comfortable. More than 520 K of C

members from around the state attended the Comerica

Park event. Thanks Ken for stepping up and for a job well

done.

Brother Knight and past Warden Bill Bauer and his

wife MaryLee certainly have more free time on their

hands. Both retired this past summer. Bill for the second

time–first from the Detroit Police Dept and finally as the

Ordinance Officer for West Bloomfield after 10 years.

MaryLee has retired from the Livonia Public Schools. Bill

can now spend time on his greatest passion: Flying. Con-

gratulations to the family Bauer.

If you didn’t already know, our own Erik Mayernik,

PGK is our newest District Deputy replacing Larry Ven-

dal, PGK. Eric is responsible for the successful operations

of all the Livonia Councils: Monaghan, St. Collette, St.

Edith, Daniel Lord and St Priscilla. On Aug 2nd, Erik and

fellow District Deputies hosted their yearly meeting. Over

70 Knights called Monaghan their home for one evening

of meetings, encouragement and speeches. Our kitchen

committee consisting of Bill Bauer, Ed Nagrant, Dennis

Kelly, and Joe Reardon PGK put on quite a barbecue for

those in attendance. Continued on page four, col. 1
