Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines greed as “selfish and excessive desire for more of

something than is needed.” We see this greed played out in today’s gospel with the rich man

who finds himself with such a bountiful harvest he cannot possibly use it all. Instead of sharing

this bounty with others or putting it to some good use, he decides to tear down his current barn

to build an even bigger one to hold the excess. If we are not careful, the desire for more can take

over every aspect of our lives, because no thing will satisfy our deepest hunger. Only God can do

SOCIAL JUSTICE SEPTEMBER 29TH

“Making it Real: Genuine human encounter in our digital world” is

the theme for the 2019-2020 Social Justice Statement

“The solidarity of entire communities can be placed at risk by

campaigns of misinformation and the spread of ‘fake news’.”

Archbishop Coleridge went on to echo the words of Pope Francis,

calling all believers to “boldly become citizens of the digital world”

and to “ensure it is a place of genuine human encounter”, inviting all

to play a role in making this new digital world one where hatred and

divisions are rejected and our love of God and neighbour is fostered

always.

two girls in Tanzania, both are Fr Ben’s nieces. Thank you to all who

supported, $410.20 was raised.

BEWARE OF SWOOPING PLOVERS

When visiting Catholic Cemetery take care of plovers (Lapwings) swooping to defend their eggs or young chicks. These attacks are seasonal, it is unusual for plovers to strike and contact is rarely made when they swoop.

Memorabilia– Photos for the Jubilee Celebrations. We are looking for photos of parish families who were married, Baptized or Confirmed in our current or old church, to use on display in the Hall at our Jubilee celebrations. If you would like to share 2-3 photos either original or scanned, please bring then into the office with your names on the back or speak to Anna. We would love for many wonderful memories to be shared amongst our parishioners. We may even hear the saying ”Oh wow, have a look at …”

WORKING BEE IN THE CHURCH HALL AND KITCHEN Helpers wanted to clean windows, mop, dust and polish to prepare for Jubilee celebrations, please come Saturday 9.00am 17th August.
