It’s my pleasure to present you with our scheduled line-up for the 2009 EGSA Fall Conference. I am confi dent these timely educational sessions will engage your interest and provide you with the information you need to succeed in today’s challenging economy.

This year’s theme—“EGSA Stimulus Opportunities”—references our present economic conditions and answers the call by the Obama Administration to “go green” and change the way we do business. Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, meaningful opportunities are available to those fi rms with the information and resources to capitalize on them to great advantage. Starting with “Opportunities for Growth in the Current Economy” and “The Energy Policy Landscape”, this year’s program will help you build a roadmap to your fi rm’s role in the emerging energy economy.

Additional sessions such as “Smart Grid Systems for the Battlefi eld”, “Apply-ing Micro Turbines and Controls to Accommodate CHP Plants and Smart Grids” and “Colorado’s Experiences with Energy Project Stimulus Funding” will show you what kind of business your fi rm could—and should—be doing right now and in the coming months. This is one of the most on-target Conference Programs in recent memory. I’m sure you’ll agree that few industry professionals can afford to forgo this experience.

As always, we’ve also scheduled Committee Meetings to allow members to participate in the business of the Association. I am very excited to invite each of you to attend the inaugural meeting of our new “Green” Committee. Regardless of your interest, please lend your full participation to whichever committee you choose, and let your opinions be heard. This is the time and place to make a difference and reshape our industry.

Join us for this year’s Fall Technical & Marketing Conference as we review and discuss “EGSA Stimulus Opportunities!”

The Energy Policy Landscape: Opportunities for EGSA membersRichard Reisig, Executive Director of Government Relations, MTU Detroit Diesel, Inc.

The Federal Government’s recent release of billions of dollars in stimulus funding was not only intended to put the country back to work—it was meant to put the country back to work smarter. In fact, many of the individually funded programs were created to put companies to work improving energy effi ciency, reducing harmful emissions and develop-ing renewable energy sources. EGSA Members are uniquely positioned to access these business opportunities and adapt themselves accordingly. This presentation will review the current energy policy landscape and examine pending federal and state legislation that could impact EGSA members.

Richard Reisig was appointed Executive Director of Government Relations for MTU Detroit Diesel, Inc. in November 2008. In this role, his responsibilities include overseeing the activities of MTU’s Washington offi ce and assisting with the sale of MTU engines to both the foreign and the domestic base.

Colorado’s Experiences with Energy Project Stimulus Funding Patti Case, Director of the Intermountain CHP Application Center and Vice President of ETC Group, LLC

The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) currently offers technical resources and stimulus funding for combined heat and power (CHP), district energy and waste heat energy systems, all of which often incorporate On-Site Power systems. This overview of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for Clean Energy Systems and of the DoE-sponsored Clean Energy Regional Application Centers will advise attendees on education, project promotion efforts, tools and resources, and the technical assistance provided by the Clean Energy Centers. A status review of projects that have been requested, proposed and funded with stimulus dollars also will be included.

Since its founding in 1988, Patti Case has served as Vice President of ETC Group, a fi rm whose mission is to improve commercial and industrial business energy effi ciency and reduce the environmental impact of energy use through en-gineering, analysis, education, and advocacy. Ms. Case holds a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering and BS degrees in Chemistry and Biology. Before “quitting her day job” and going into business with her brother, Mark Case (President of ETC), she spent a decade conducting combustion research and development and industrial process engineering. She currently leads ETC Group’s industrial practice. She has served on the South West Energy Effi ciency Project’s board of directors since 2002. And she has served as Director of the Intermountain CHP Application Center (now the Clean Energy Center) since 2003.

Applying Micro Turbines and Controls to Accommodate CHP Plants and Smart GridsTimothy D. Tawoda, Founder & CEO, Preon

This session will provide practical discussion on the benefi ts of integrating micro turbine-based CHP plants and con-trols into new government buildings as a way to facilitate the smart grid. Micro turbines and supporting electronic paralleling controls—now easily applied to new construction—will enhance the facility’s economics, environment and reliability/security.

Tim Tawoda has over 25 years of power industry sales and design experience involving both power quality equipment and distributed generation project development. From 1981 through 1995 Tim managed and directed various sales engineering operations on behalf of Westinghouse, Teledyne (NYSE: TDY), and Protech. In 1996, Tim founded Preon, a leading Energy Integrator specializing in turnkey sales, fi nance, engineering and maintenance of micro turbine-based CHP plants. Preon has a presence in the Chicago, Seattle, Sheridan, NYC and Orlando markets.

Tim earned his Mechanical Engineering Bachelor of Science from Bradley University, won the Charles Steinmetz Techni-cal Merit Award from the Chicago Consulting Electrical Engineers in 2000, and has applied for several patents for the unique control of micro turbines. As the company visionary and architect, Tim takes a hands-on approach to facilitating major initiatives.

Tuesday, September 15 • 1:00-5:00 p.m.Anglers Covey, Colorado’s Premier Fly-Fishing Professionals

Cost: $130 per person (includes boxed lunch; does NOT include fl y-fi shing license; see below)

The South Platte River rises as snowmelt at about 12,500 feet above sea level. From there, the river meanders until it crosses the Colorado-Nebraska border and joins North Platte. The South Platte is about 450 miles long. Anglers Covey—our guides—operate in an area that runs 50 miles downstream from the river’s headwaters. Wildlife viewing is a nonstop attraction here. Area bison herds are growing in size, antelope are abundant, and the sharp-eyed visitor can often spy mule deer, elk, an occasional coyote, black bear and even a mountain lion. Birds range from brightly colored bluebirds to magpies, migrating cranes, red-tailed hawks, golden eagles and yes, even bald eagles.

Fishing License: You are required to purchase a Resident/Non-Resident One-Day Fly-Fishing license for a cost of $9. Visit https://www3.wildlifelicense.com/co/start.php to purchase your license. If you need instructions or assistance visit http://wildlife.state.co.us/ShopDOW/AppsAndLicenses. A $5 fee for a “habitat stamp” for online and phone orders will be applied to your total purchase price.

Tackle: Anglers Covey will provide each fi sherman with a fl y rod outfi t, Orvis breath-able waders, Flies, and Tackle as well as one Orvis-endorsed guide for every two anglers. Dress appropriately, bearing in mind that September’s average temperature for this area is 55°F. Be prepared for weather that can range from 60 degrees in January to 20-degree snow fl urries in July. Anglers Covey is about a 10-minute drive from the Antlers Hilton. Fishermen must arrange their own transportation.

Tuesday, September 15 • 1:00-5:00 p.m.Antler Creek Golf Course

Cost: $90 per person (includes box lunch); $25 club rental (limited availability; if you plan to rent clubs, reserve them NOW); One (1) Mulligan for $5 or three (3) for $12.

Antler Creek Golf Course—El Paso County’s fi nest daily fee golf course—provides an outstanding golf experience with six sets of tees to challenge and provide enjoyment for every caliber of golfer.

Opened in 2004, this Dick Phelps-designed course has wide fairways that artistically wind through the “Woodmen Hills” and “Meridian Ranch” communities. The player-friendly design is a pleasant mix of Colorado terrain

and native grasses that blend nicely to create a “prairie dunes style” course, which is unique to the Pikes Peak region. The course measures over 8,000 yards from the tips making it Colorado’s longest golf course. With three lakes and 73 bunkers, it’s easy to see why Colorado Avid Golfer named Antler Creek as the best new course in 2004.

Antler Creek Golf Course will host the 2009 Colorado State Games. It has previously hosted the 2008 and 2005 U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifi ers; the 2007 Colorado Golf Association Stroke Play Championship; the 2006 Colorado Open Qualifi er; and the 2006 Colorado Golf As-sociation Stroke Play Championship.

At just under 20 miles distance from the hotel, golfers may expect a total estimated driving time of 28 minutes. Golfers must arrange for their own transportation.

Topic Suggestions

The EGSA Communications & Convention Committee wants to give you $100! The entire process is quick, easy, and even painless.

Just complete the “Call for Papers” form provided below with a topic suggestion or tell us about a presentation you would like to give. Make sure that we have your completed form in hand in time for the Com-munications & Convention Committee meeting on September 14.

If we select your entry, you win $100! Sound easy? Just ask Chuck Westhofen of Atlas Copco—he won $100 at the 2008 Fall Technical & Marketing Conference when the Committee selected his suggested topic for 2009 EGSA Annual Spring Convention!

1. Each presentation must be a minimum of 45 minutes long and utilize Microsoft PowerPoint®.

2. Within two weeks of acceptance notifi ca-tion, the speaker must submit to EGSA: a brief biogra-phy, session title, brief abstract, and a high resolution electronic photo (300 dpi jpeg) for publication in the Convention Brochure.

3. Two months prior to the convention, the speaker will be required to submit a completed presentation, along with handouts, to the Chairman of the Communications & Convention Committee to approve. Once a presentation has been approved for inclusion in the Attendee Binder, no further changes will be permitted. Product placement is strongly discouraged; speakers should not include company/product logos or equipment photos.

4. If the completed presentation is not submitted by the two-month deadline for inclusion in the Attendee Binder, the speaker will be required to provide photo-copies of the presentation handouts for distribution to all attendees at the convention.

5. Speakers must present themselves to EGSA Staff at their earliest opportunity but no later than 7:30-8:00 a.m. on their designated speaking day prior to the start of the day’s educational program.

6. Speakers who are not paid for their presentations receive one complimentary convention registration (does not include golf, fi shing or tours). Hotel room and travel expenses are not reimbursable.

7. Speakers agree to provide a feature article based on their presentations for publication in EGSA’s Powerline maga-zine.
