Thanks to the continuous production process (CPL), laminates can be flexibly and economically produced in lengths from 800 mm

up to 5,600 mm. For better efficiency, EGGER Laminates are available in various dimensions as well as off the roll.

FLEXIBILITY AND DESIGN IN ALL DIMENSIONS

A big plus of laminates is their versatility. They can be produced in large dimensions

and be pressed on different substrates. Joint-free applications and curved mouldings

can easily be achieved. Almost all laminates are postformable. In addition individual

cutting reduces waste!

An elegant naturalness with subtle colouration is the key to modern designs in the kitchen. A natural woodgrain decor in

combination with a warm accent colour creates a timeless style.

A worktop needs to withstand impacts of daily use in the kitchen. Besides that, it is a design element too. Laminates combine

both these characteristics – resistance and design. They are postformable, which is decoratively appealing, enabling seamless

WHY LAMINATES ARE SO IMPORTANT FOR DOORS

Laminated door elements can be easily achieved with a flexible material which can be rounded. The usage of one single decor

in all door components is often applied for designing modern doors.

By using thicker laminates, the impact strength of the door itself is improved. Doors in public areas like hospitals are often

implemented with laminates in a thickness of 0.80 mm. EGGER Laminates are available in 3 different door sizes such as

2,150 mm × 950 mm or 1,020 mm as well as 2,350 mm × 1,310 mm in the thickness 0.80 mm. For private purpose, doors made

of EGGER Laminate Micro are also produced in industrial productions.

EGGER Compact Laminates are often used for wall claddings as their product characteristics perfectly meet the requirements.

They can be applied in a great variety of decors and besides this, are stress resistant and easy to clean. Further information on

EGGER LAMINATE FLEXThe flexible laminate

A very flexible material is required for the lamination of

worktops. With EGGER Laminate Flex particularly small radii

can be shaped. According to the customer’s needs, the laminate

is cut from the roll to the desired length. Also an order-related

production of the laminate with an individually chosen length

is offered. Thus, the laminates can be optimally processed with

reduced waste.

Laminates with a coloured core do not only have the outstanding

technical features of a laminate but also provide the perfect optic

for high value projects as they can be applied without any

noticeable breaks or hemlines.

EGGER Coloured Core Laminates are available in W1001 ST9

Solid Premium White and also ST30 with a white core as well as

The Feelwood range resembles the appearance and feel of solid wood and veneer. The defined stock decors of EGGER Laminate

EGGER Genuine Metallic Laminate has a metallic cool and elegant appearance, due to its surface of a lacquered aluminum foil.

It has a particularly high quality effect and so sets a course in design. It is the perfect choice for stylish, decorative elements in

interior design.

Genuine metallic laminates are suitable for vertical use only. To preserve the special optical effect of the surface during the fabrication process, the laminates are enhanced with a transparent protective film.

EGGER LAMINATE FLAMMEXThe flame retardant laminate

Flame retardant and decorative at the same time: The Laminate Flammex combines both properties and thus is a perfect

combination of design and functionality.

EGGER Laminate Flammex meets the special requirements of class B1, so it can be categorised as a building material. Important

is that this classification is only applicable, when the substrate as well as the adhesive for gluing are up to the class B1 as well

as the French fire class M1.

EGGER Laminates Flammex fulfill all conditions asked for in public tenders and are available on request. - For further information please ask your EGGER distributor.

In the event of fire, EGGER Laminate Flammex meets the requirements for interior fittings. There is limited formation of smoke, the laminate does not soften and is non drip-forming. It does not contain chlorine or other halogens.

Thin laminates are used for profiling and lamination. The application of EGGER Laminate Micro ranges from door elements,

connection profiles to decorative profiles and windowsills.

EGGER LAMINATE PAINTING GRADEThe laminate for lacquering

EGGER Laminate Painting Grade can be used for individual colour design and as special balance paper. Its front side is suitable

for lacquering and its backside is bondable. Therefore it is the perfect material for special colourations for diverse applications.

A strong advantage of EGGER Laminate Micro is the possibility of using one single decor in all door components from the door wing, to the door case and the decorative door covering.

Laminate bonded boards offer the ability to individually combine the various

Laminate bonded boards feature high durability and resistance against

EGGER Compact Laminate is the ideal material for demanding interior applications subject to high stress or with increased

requirements for cleanliness and hygiene. It is used in a variety of commercial applications for tables, work surfaces, wall

panelling, partition walls and applications in moisture-prone areas.

There is no subsequent edge or surface finishing required. Besides this, it is suitable for long-term use and in combination

with its elegant appearance, it is the perfect material for creating special designs.

Compact laminates have a multilayer structure. They have a good dimensional stability and are self-supporting from a thickness

of ≥ 6 mm. It is a homogenous material for precise processing. The core of the compact laminate is either available in black or

white. Therefore, besides the selected decor, the core is an additional design element.

ST2 Diamond – Robust, striking and very durable, this surface is best used with uni colours, pearlescent decors and applied on classic application areas.

ST10 Authentic – A surface for natural, striking and rustic decors probably doesn’t get more authentic than this. It is the perfect surface for solid wood reproductions.

ST70 Elegance – The even surface with a lowergloss level works well with fantasy decors, inparticular with stone & mineral decors.

ST79 Finepore Matt – A regular, closely arranged and fine wood pore texture, which is well suited for use with classic and elegant wood reproductions.

ST30 Gloss Finish – A smooth surface with high gloss level, in particular well suitable for uni colours and premium woodgrain decors.

ST11 Natural Pore – The irregular matt and gloss woodgrain gives this surface a very natural appearance.

ST18 Waveline – The crosswise texture reveals a depth previously unknown with melamine boards. It appears modern and is reminiscent of coated, milled solid wood.

SM Semi Matt – This texture provides a smooth, paint-like and untextured surface finish. Its effects are especially visible in combination with uni colours.

ST15 Office – This universal surface is suitable for intensive uni colours. It also highlights the appearance of elegant woodgrain decors.

ST22 Matex – Thanks to its feel and matt-gloss areas, it gives linear and lively woodgrain decors more naturalness and depth for a more realistic wood-like finish.

HAPTIC BRINGS DECORS TO LIFE! - TEXTURES AT A GLANCEBesides the visual aspect of the selected decor, the texture of the surface plays a significant role. The laminate gets its texture in the pressing process. Structured and chromed steel bands or also release papers are used. The selected texture determines the texture geometry as well as the gloss level. The texture is perfectly matched to the decor image.

ST9 Perfect Matt – Gives uni colours andwoodgrain decors a very natural feel and follows the matt surface trend.

ST37 Feelwood Rift – Emphasises strikingcracks and outlines the pores with amatt, irregular finish, creating the naturalappearance and feel of solid oak.

ST29 Feelwood Ambiance – With its matt-gloss effect, this synchronised pore decor emphasises the course of the large flowers in Cape Elm. This decor is also retraced by soft recesses for a tactile effect.

ST87 Ceramic – This texture exhibits pronounced matt-gloss effects, simulating the surface and feel of a ceramic tile.

ST82 Granito – This deep embossed surface with robust surface properties provides especially stone decors a natural sand blasted effect.

ST27 Feelwood Elegance – This surface sets itself apart with a fine and strict but nevertheless natural pore and emphasises the elegant character of the Tortona decor.

ST26 Painted Wood – The striking depth of the linear and lively sections on this surface make uni colours appear like coated wood.

ST89 Silvretta – The rough and deep texture with the interplay of matt and gloss displays a granite character.

A1 Artwave – It is an innovative surface that puts appealing appearance and glossy areas in the foreground.

ST88 Velvet – This surface is reminiscent of small mosaic stones. Thanks to its design, it creates a variable interplay of colours in all uni hues.

ST28 Feelwood Nature – Gladstone Oak is a synchronised decor using ST28 “Feelwood Nature” which emphasises the sand blasted character of this oak decor.

ST36 Brushed Wood – This surface exhibits a deeply brushed but very natural, matt character that gives many different types of wood an extremely authentic feel.

24 EGGER Laminates

The composition of the laminate varies depending on the field of application.

It is defined by the number and weights of the core papers as well as the use

of overlay and underlay. Those features clearly determine the thickness of the

material.

The first step of laminate production is the impregnation of the papers. The rolls

of paper are saturated in a resin bath. The result is a decorative or core impregnated

paper.

EGGER Laminates are manufactured in the production process “CPL” in continuously operating double-belt presses.

1) Overlay is a bleached, transparent paper with a high resin absorption level for protecting the image of the decorative papers and to improve the abrasion resistance.

The rolls of impregnated paper are fixed on spindles which are fed into the press zone. The application of heat and

pressure provides curing of the resins. Through cross-linked bonding of the resins a very homogenous, decorative and

textured material with a non-porous surface is produced.

All EGGER Laminates are tested in accordance with the product standard EN 438. It defines which laminate quality has to be

used for the requested application in order to achieve an ideal outcome.

The continuous production process is flexible and economical. Variable lengths of laminates from 800 to 5,600 mm as well as laminate rolls can be produced. Further information on the various qualities of laminates and their scope of use can be found on page 11 “For every application the right laminate”.

26 EGGER Laminates

Depending on the scope of application, laminates have the necessary properties to meet all requirements of a versatile design

element. With impact strength and scratch resistance the most essential functions of the surface stress are defined.

By choosing the appropriate quality of laminate, those features are significantly influenced.

Scratch resistance

Depending on the selected texture, the deeper the texture, the less visible scratches become.

Due to the special production process and materials used, the surface is highly robust.

Impact strength

The thickness of a laminate significantly influences the impact strength of a laminate.

The key characteristics of the laminate are verified by external test institutes. According to the European Waste List Regulation,

laminates have to be declared under EWC (European Waste Code) 0702 13 for plastic waste. Category 1, no. 571, laminate scraps

are classified as “other cured plastic waste”. Category 1 means that a material is similar to household garbage.

ABOUT PROCESSING: JUST ASK – AND WE WILL ANSWER.

HOW ARE EGGER LAMINATES PREPARED FOR TRANSPORT?

The type of packaging depends on the delivery quantity, the

clients’ requirements as well as the final destination of the

laminates.

Laminate sheets are either packed onto disposable pallets or

are rolled up and put into cardboard boxes.

Laminate rolls are packed onto Euro pallets, which is done according to the clients needs as well as the requirements for further

processing. The rolls will either be placed on the pallet in an upright or lying position.

Hints for correct storage:

• Store in closed and dry areas only

• Normal climatic conditions and no direct exposure to sunlight

• No direct floor contact

• In a storage rack, or tilted at an angle of 80 °

• Protective board on top and bottom of at least the same size (no bending or scratching)

• Decorative side of the top laminate sheet facing down

• In foil packaging, constant moisture in the laminate stack

WHAT IS THE RIGHT WAY TO HANDLE AND STORE LAMINATES?

Single sheets of laminates are rolled up for transporting to avoid cracks and chippings. Furthermore, when the laminates

are rolled, the decorative side will not be dragged over each other, which avoids any damages.

Due to sharp edges, it is recommended to wear gloves while handling laminates.

WHAT SHOULD I KEEP IN MIND WHEN PROCESSING LAMINATES?

Before processing, both the substrate as well as the laminate must be stored at least 24 hours under the same conditions.

With the same level of temperature (18 to 25 °C) and moisture content a perfect processing result without faulty bonding,

shrinkage, cracking or warping can be achieved. Never use damp materials!

The large variety of EGGER Laminates and different substrates offer the ideal solution for every situation.

Hints for processing laminates:

• Use flat and stress free substrates

• Consider calibrated substrates

• Moisture content of ≤ 8 %

• Do not use solid wood as a substrate!

AND WHAT ABOUT CUTTING?

Standard woodworking equipment like panel saws, circular saw benches, hand-held circular saws or jigsaws are used.

The cutting of laminates can be done either before or after bonding them onto the substrates.

As handling of EGGER Laminates is very flexible, you can individually decide which size, shape or needed cut out you require as

well as your type of saw you wish to use.

ARE LAMINATE SCRAPS DIFFICULT TO DISPOSE OF?

Not, at all. The waste generated during cutting, need not be treated separately. Laminate scraps can simply be disposed of in

regular household waste.

For high quality results consider the following factors and

follow the instructions of the producer from your saw:

• Decorative side face up

• Correct saw blade projection

• Feed rate, rotational and cutting speed

• Tooth shape and tooth pitch

WHAT NEEDS TO BE CONSIDERED WHEN BONDING LAMINATES?

Before bonding:

Both the laminate as well as the substrate needs to be cleaned thoroughly. The composite panel shall have a symmetrical

composition for the front and reverse side. This means that the layers of both sides shall approximately have the same

thickness in order to prevent a later distortion of the readily bonded board.

When applying the adhesive:

The adhesive should be equally distributed. The choice of the adhesive depends on the substrate and of course the conditions

of bonding. In the glossary you can find a table of the most frequently used types and their technical basics on classification,

temperature resistance, press pressure, press temperature, press time and so on.

For a satisfying result, it is recommended to do a trial bonding under the given conditions.

Laminate bonded boards can be applied as building material when all components (substrate, laminates, adhesive) are up to the class B1 as well as the French fire class M1. Only then the final product is considered as flame retardant.

WHAT HINTS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE PROCESSING OF BONDED BOARDS?

When sawing, milling and drilling, a safe resting of the entire laminate bonded board is recommended to avoid any

damages. The corners of the cut-out should be rounded off by primary drilling with a radius of at least 5 mm. Sharp edges

tend to crack.

For cutting, use a portable hand router or CNC milling machine. Cut-outs with jigsaws should be done from the bottom side of

the board. The corners should also be pre-drilled. Then the section is cut out from corner to corner. Finally the edges need to

be sanded, filed or manually milled to eliminate cracks due to chipping. Round cut-outs and rounded corners are easier to

implement.

When attaching fitting rails, fittings and so, the laminate bonded element need to be pre-drilled in the screw fastening area.

The holes must at least be 1 mm larger than the diameter of the screw.

The surface of the laminate prevents both moisture and damp to penetrate the element. Unprotected areas such as cut-outs,

joints or corner joints, therefore, must be sealed with edges or a sealant.

LAMINATES IN DAILY USE

Thanks to their resistant, hygienic and dense surface EGGER Laminates do not require special care. As a general rule, dirt and

spilled substances such as tea, coffee, wine etc. should be cleaned immediately as the cleaning effort increases if they are left

to dry.

When necessary, cleaning should be done with non-aggressive agents which must not contain any abrasive components, as

they may adversely affect the gloss level or scratch the surface.

Placing burning cigarettes on the laminate surface leads to surface damage.

Always use an ashtray.

Laminate surfaces should not be used as a cutting surface as this can also leave cutting marks on highly resistant

laminate surfaces. Always use a chopping board.

Placing hot cooking utensils such as saucepans and frying pans directly from the hob or oven onto the laminate

surface should be avoided, as, depending on the heat exposure, a change in the gloss appearance or damage to

the surface can arise. Always use heat resistant materials.

Spilled liquids should always be cleaned up immediately, especially in the areas around cut-outs and joints, as

prolonged exposure to some substances may cause a change in the gloss appearance of the laminate surface.

These recommendations especially apply to matt and gloss laminate surfaces. These have a distinctive look and feel, but have a

greater tendency to show wear and tear.

Decor and texture match: EGGER Laminates are available in decor and material match. They are combinable with various de-corative EGGER products. Therefore, one single decor can be used for diverse areas of application.

Dimension: EGGER offers laminates off the roll and / or in sheets. The availability depends on the requested quality as well as the thickness of the laminate.

MED: stands for “Marine Equipment Directive”. It specifies requirements of the product quality, which are proved by certificates at an accredited testing institute such as Lloyd‘s Register. This evidence allows the laminate to be used in shipbuilding. A printed “wheel mark” on the backside of the laminate declares the conformity. Laminate MED is the standard quality of the Zoom and the Door Collection.

Product norm: It defines which laminate quality has to be used for the requested application in order to achieve an ideal outcome. Depending on the field of application different product requirements are asked for. The product norm EN 438-5:2005 defines the product properties of laminates.

Production process: CPL stands for “Continuously Pressed Laminates”. Laminates are produced in continuously working double belt presses. HPL stands for “High Pressure Laminate”. Laminates are produced under high pressure in stationary multi daylight presses. Scratch resistance: It is only visually inspected and rated. For the result of this test, the applied texture of the laminate is crucial. The deeper the texture, the less scratches are visible, since only the peaks of the texture are touched. The brighter the selected decor of laminate, the less striking deep scratches are. The reason is that the underlying core paper is brown. Scratches on dark decors appear bright and thus are more evident. Therefore, equal scratches are classified differently depending on the combination of the selected decor and texture.
