I worked at top companies such as:
A Leapfrogi leapfrogged from one success to another Like “Magic”
with instant media fame
My SUccess
What’s A LeapFRog?
Any advance from one place, position, or situation to another without progressing through all or any of the places or stages in between
How I Leapfrogged
At 25, I published my first book with a major publisher with no book (I skipped the self publishing route or beating my head against the wall for an agent or writing workshop to make connections)
I had zero connections
I got my agent with a 6 line email, I sent it to 5, three responded
How I leapfrogged
My first book Sex and the Single Sister: 5 Novellas, the likelihood for a first time author to publish a short story collection was almost zero
St Martins is one of the largest publishers in the world
USA Today featured me in their acclaimed Open Book Section, a major feat and kudos for my book’s sales and bottom line
how i leapfrogged
I published 4 more books with St Martins to much media fan fare, especially for my third book
Marry Your Baby Daddy is my most publicized book and started with a 3am email from my mom’s basement
I turned a book into reality with a dream wedding
I went from a basement in Brooklyn to sitting with John Stossel, Soledad O’Brien, Gayle King and several other media personalities and journalists
how I leapfrogged
I received over 20 million media impressions from my books with no publicist
I spoke at colleges, events, and conferences in front of thousands (yup, I skipped the free, small backroom engagements)
I won awards and recognition for my work with no talent agent or publicist to rep me
I attracted sponsors who gave me free products and services
how I leapfrogged
The media found ME
My agent convinced ME that my first book was bigger than I thought
I had no training in writing a book, until 3 years later when I got an MFA with a full blown scholarship to the University of Miami
I had no “technique” that I was aware of the time
meet some other leapfrogs
TV Host Rachel Ray (no cooking school training)
Meet Some Other LeapFrogs
Mogul Oprah Winfrey (grew up poor, unwanted)
meet some other leapfrogs
Bethenny Frankel (no formal business training)
meet some other leapfrogs
Mark Zuckerberg (no friends, “borrowed” someone else’s idea)
Common “Stages”
Publicists
MFA degrees or writing workshops
PR certificates
Your own tv/radio show
Website with traffic in the millions or strategic brand
Certain age, physical and personality attributes
between a book deal and major publicity
i had none of these
this was before facebook and twitter
FB and Twitter can triple your media impressions
How I got the media to call Me
I didn’t want to start with the standard press release
I didn’t want to use any social media
I wanted to start at the top--major newspapers, magazines, tv
I realized these would bring anything else I needed--sponsors, partners, proposals, more media
what i did
I created a media list from scratch that wasn’t too much (any media is not good media, there’s a way to do this)
I wrote a short note to the media that captured the tone, spirit of my event, Marry Your Baby Daddy Day in a unique, detached way that was enticing and addictive--the media wanted MORE
I waited
why the media should call YOU
Major media (outside of social media) is still bigger than social media and can create breakthrough success
You can enjoy the trickle-down social media effects of increased fans and followers
It’s easier when they call, you just show up
They become your “friend”
They keep calling you back
why “They” stop returning calls
You told them you contacted others who were not interested in your idea, story, etc
You have reached out to them more than twice without a return call
You have a “desperate” approach
You are not confident about your work, so why would they be?
You are only taking, not giving
who do you want to become?
A leapfrog?aka “Effortless Succes” and
starting from the TOP
Struggling, Hard Work? It’s difficult to stand out because many
people are “struggling”.
There is less competition at the TOP.
What does Struggling look like?
It just feels “bad”
there’s lots of pressure, little choices
lack of resources, time
lack of money
statistics show that _____
going at it alone can take longer
you have almost everything you need to be a success!
good news
publish a book faster, easier with a major publisher

how i can help
What Else Should You KNow?
FB pages are my choice to create a “sticky” message. Friends become fans and their friends become fans.
Twitter is the “must-have” for engaging new customers and meeting journalists, media, editors, and other gatekeepers you would not meet otherwise
If FB and Twitter are your only marketing tools you are stuck in the “noise” and won’t be heard
What else?
FB and Twitter create a “space” for you to connect to more people
All major media and publishers have social media accounts, and yes, 2 million other people know about it
You need to find a way to get “in” that is not as saturated as social media
Social media is a tool, not the key
Where The media and Editors Find Their Next Star?
They don’t log hours on Google or social media, it’s too time consuming, and a last resort
They find “stars” through agents, books, previous contact, media stories and articles
Why Now Is The Time
Everyone is consumed with social media and neglecting the media that the majority of Americans still rely on
Social media is very “noisy” everybody has a product and wants to be heard
The self-publishing craze is making it easier to get a major publisher--less competition
The Bootcamps
Make your life easier with tools and approaches already proven to be successful
Renew your point of view and see your book or business with new eyes and fresh angle
Pinpoint where you want to be successful--as an author, tv/radio expert, community leader, all of the above
Build a new experience between you and your work
Develop your vision or create a new one in the bootcamp, not just when it ends
Why The Bootcamps?
You save money and time
Advertising costs are high and too unpredictable
A marketing/branding firm between $5-10K
A publicist costs at least $5000 for a retainer
You won’t be a priority because “they” don’t know you
You learn how to do it yourself for less, better, and faster
WHy Me?
I am committed to your success I believe your success is my success
I am teaching you my way, not a plan that has been copied or something you can Google, my approach is unique, intriguing and delivers results, I’m the best testimonial
I created my fame with a risky, but genuine approach and am creating more fame, I haven’t “stopped”
My story is quite remarkable and does not happen everyday, but it can happen
