Effective Listening ● Listening is a major part of being a leader
● Why?
○ The point of being a leader is helping the group reach the designated goal.
● Being a leader cannot be reached without the ability to listen to others.
● Listening also includes allowing other people’s ideas and opinions not only be voiced but to be considered as an approach to the needed goal.
Persuasion ● “Persuasion: the action or fact of persuading someone or of being persuaded to do or believe something”
● The ability to persuade is the ability to get people to do what you want. It is a very useful tool in communicating/arguing, as well as in getting people to support and follow you and your ideas.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwTsZHGQ6FE
Conflict resolution ● Conflict resolution is the ability to understand and compromise.
● WIN/WIN
● Not everything has to have a compromise
● Some things won't be easy to find a fair compromise, you just have to become happy with yourself and the situation.
How Does Leadership Affect the Community? ● Public Safety
● State Government
● A leader can effectively pull a community together and accomplish high-set goals through leading by example.
Leadership in Public safety ● Being an effective leader in public safety, such as in police, fire, and rescue, is on of the most important places that one can be a leader.
● Without effective leadership in public safety, communication between branches and squads could break down, leading to life-threatening mistakes.
Leadership in the General Assembly ● Leadership in the General Assembly is key in effectively
getting the will of the people you represent out.
● Some qualities that are needed for effective leadership in the General Assembly are:
○ Dedication to the people
○ Respect
○ Perseverance
Job Roles that show strong leadership Officer: An officer shows a great deal of leadership through enforcing laws.
Delegate: A delegate has a partial responsibility over the county they delegate for, depending on how many delegates are put forth for that county.
Sailors in the Navy: These sailors show leadership through being humble and brave, and also through being able to sacrifice their lives for those they have yet to meet.
Conclusion Overall , we think that an effective leader must have the foundational leadership skills. He or she must show accountability, trustfulness, potential to lead a large group,and humility.
