The Canon EF24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is a high-performance standard zoom lens that makes movie shooting comfortable. The lens is equipped with an Image Stabilizer and has been developed for use with EOS cameras.

● "IS" stands for Image Stabilizer. ● "STM" stands for stepping motor.

Handling Cautions ● If the lens is taken from a cold environment into a warm one, condensation may develop on the lens surface and internal parts. To prevent condensation inthiscase,firstputthelensintoanairtightplasticbagbeforetakingitfromacoldtowarmenvironment.Thentakeoutthelensafterithaswarmedgradually.Dothesamewhentakingthelensfromawarmenvironmentinto a cold one.

● Do not leave the lens in excessive heat such as in a car in direct sunlight. High temperatures can cause the lens to malfunction.

Usage Precautions ● Whenusingthislens,pleasechecktheCanonwebsiteforthelatestcamerafirmware.Ifthecamera’sfirmwareisnotthelatestversion,besuretoupdatetothelatestfirmware.

● Fordetailsonupdatingfirmware,pleasechecktheCanonwebsite.

Safety Precautions ● Do not look at the sun or a bright light source through the lens or camera. Doing so could result in lossofvision.Lookingatthesundirectlythroughthelens is especially hazardous.

● Whether it is attached to the camera or not, do not leave the lens under the sun without the lens cap attached. This is to prevent the lens from concentratingthesun’srays,whichcouldcauseafire.

Shooting PrecautionsTheEF24-105mmf/3.5-5.6ISSTMutilizesasteppingmotorthatdrivesthefocuslens.The motor also controls the focus lens during zooming.1. When the camera is OFFThemotordoesnotoperatewhilethecameraisOFForwhenthecameraisOFFduetotheuseoftheautopowerofffunction.Therefore,usersmustbeawareofthefollowingpoints.

● Manual focus adjustments are not possible. ● Duringzooming,delayedfocuswilloccur.

2. When the lens is in sleep modeIfnotoperatedforacertainperiodoftime,thislenswillentersleepmodeinordertosavepower.SleepmodediffersfromwhenthecameraisOFFduetotheuseoftheautopowerofffunction.Inthisstate,themotorwillnotoperateevenifthecameraisON.Therefore,usersmustbeawareofthefollowingpoints.

● Manual focus adjustments are not possible. ● Duringzooming,delayedfocuswilloccur. ● Toexitsleepmode,presstheshutterbuttonhalfway.CO

3. During initial resetWhenthecameraisONorwhenthecameraisturnedONbypressingtheshutterbuttonhalfwaydownwhenthecameraisOFFduetotheuseoftheautopowerofffunction*1,thelensperformsaninitialresetofthefocuslens.*2

● Althoughtheimageintheviewfinderwillappearoutoffocusduringtheinitialreset,thisdoesnotmeanthatthelens has malfunctioned.

● Althoughtheshuttercanbereleasedduringtheinitialreset,usersmustwaitapproximately1second*3 after the initial reset has completed before shooting.

When using the lens with film-based SLR cameras ● Thedrivespeedofthefocuslenswillbeslowerthanwhenthelensisusedwithadigitalcamera. ● Imageswillappearoutoffocuswhenusingthecamera’sinternalflashwhileitischargingorwhenzoomingduring exposure for still images.

● EvenwhenthecameraisON,imagesmayappearoutoffocuswhenzooming.Ifthisoccurs,presstheshutterbuttonhalfwaywhilezooming.

● AfterfocusinginONESHOTAFmodeandzoomingbyholdingtheshutterbuttonhalfway,thecameramayindicate that the AF mode has been changed to manual focus (MF) mode.

● Duringcontinuousshooting,zoomingmayslowdownshootingspeed. ● Therearesomecaseswhenusersmustwaitapproximately1secondafterzoomingbeforetheautofocuswillfunction.

See your camera’s instructions for details on mounting and detaching the lens.

● Afterdetachingthelens,placethelenswiththe rear end up to prevent the lens surface and contacts from getting scratched.

● Ifthecontactsgetsoiled,scratched,orhavefingerprintsonthem,corrosionorfaultyconnections can result. The camera and lens may not operate properly.

● Ifthecontactsgetsoiledorhavefingerprintsonthem,cleanthemwithasoftcloth.

● Ifyouremovethelens,coveritwiththedustcap.Toattachitproperly,alignthelensmountindex and the indexofthedustcapasshowninthediagram,andturnclockwise.Toremoveit,reverse the order.

Tozoom,turnthelens’zoomring.

● Besuretofinishzoomingbeforefocusing.Zooming after focusing can affect the focus.

● Blurringmaytemporarilyoccurifthezoomringisquicklyrotated.

● ZoomingwhenthecameraisOFFwillresultindelayed focus.

● Zoomingduringstillimageexposurewillresultindelayed focus. This causes any streaks of light that are captured during exposure to be blurred.

3. Setting the Focus Mode

Toshootinautofocus(AF)mode,setthefocusmodeswitchtoAF.Touseonlymanualfocusing(MF),setthefocusmodeswitchtoMF,andfocusbyturningthefocusing ring.

AfterautofocusinginONESHOTAFmode,focusmanuallybypressingtheshutterbuttonhalfwayand turning the focusing ring. (Full-time manual focus)

● Quickly rotating the focusing ring may result in delayed focus.

● Manualfocusadjustmentsarenotpossiblewhenthe camera is OFF.

● Please make sure that the camera is kept ON afterbringinganimageintofocus.However,therearetimeswhenimageswillbecomeoutoffocusevenwhenthecameraisONduetochangingthecamerabatteryorattaching/detachingthelens.Pleaseusethecamera’sautopowerofffunctiontomaintainfocuswhenthe camera is OFF.

4. Fixing the Zoom RingThezoomringcanbefixedtokeepthelensattheshortestpoint.Thisfunctionisconvenientforcarrying a camera on a strap because it prevents the lens from extending.

1 Rotatethezoomringtothewidestposition(24mm).

2 Slide the zoom ring lock lever in the direction indicatedbythearrow. ● Toreleasethezoomring,slidethe zoom ring lock lever in the directionoppositetothearrow.

Thezoomringcanonlybelockedatmaximumwideangle.

5. Hood (sold separately)TheEW-83Mhoodcutsoutunwantedlightandprotectsthefrontofthelensfromrain,snow,anddust.

● AttachingToattachthehood,alignthehood’sattachmentpositionmarkwiththereddotonthefrontofthelens,thenturnthehoodasshownbythearrowuntilthelens’reddotisalignedwiththehood’sstop position mark.

● RemovingToremovethehood,holddownthebuttononthe side and turn the hood in the direction of thearrowuntilthepositionmarkonthehoodalignswiththereddot.Thehoodcanbereverse-mounted on the lens for storage.

● Ifthehoodisnotattachedproperly,vignetting(darkeningoftheperimeterofthepicture)mayoccur. ● Whenattachingordetachingthehood,graspthebaseofthehoodtoturnit.Topreventdeformation,donotgrasp the rim of the hood to turn it.

You can use the image stabilizer in AF or MF mode.This function provides optimal image stabilization depending on shooting conditions (such as shootingstillsubjectsandfollowingshots).

1 Set the STABILIZER switch to ON. ● If you are not going to use the image stabilizer function,settheswitchtoOFF.

2 When you press the shutter button halfway, the Image Stabilizer will start operating. ● Makesuretheimageintheviewfinderisstable,thenpresstheshutterbuttontherestofthewaydowntotakethepicture.

6. Image Stabilizer ● The Image Stabilizer cannot compensate for a blurred shot caused by a subject that moved.

● The Image Stabilizer may not be fully effective if you shoot from a violently shaking vehicle or other transportation.

● TheImageStabilizerconsumesmorepowerthannormalshooting,resultinginfewershotsand a shorter movie shooting time.

● Whenshootingastillsubject,itcompensatesforcamera shake in all directions.

● It compensates for vertical camera shake during followingshotsinahorizontaldirection,andcompensates for horizontal camera shake during followingshotsinaverticaldirection.

● Whenyouuseatripod,theImageStabilizershouldbeturnedofftosavebatterypower.

● Evenwithamonopod,theImageStabilizerwillbe as effective as during hand-held shooting. However,dependingontheshootingenvironment,the Image Stabilizer effect may be less effective.

● TheimagestabilizerfunctionalsooperateswhenthelensisusedwithanExtensionTubeEF12IIorEF25II.

● Ifyousetthecamera’sCustomFunctiontochangetheassignedbuttontooperatetheAF,theImageStabilizerwilloperatewhenyoupressthenewlyassignedAFbutton.
