Dear Art Lovers,
We are delighted to welcome you to the South Island Cultural District (SICD). Since its creation in 2013, the SICD has experienced rapid growth; it is now composed of 23 local and international contemporary art galleries, artist studios and non-commercial art spaces. The SICD is committed to offering a monthly cultural program of the highest standard through groundbreaking exhibitions ranging from emerging local artists to international icons.
In addition to the monthly calendar of events, our biannual South Island Art Day welcomes nearly five thousand visitors each September and attracts international collectors, curators and local enthusiasts as part of the Art Basel VIP program each March. The newly instituted South Island Art Auction, held in December and June, gives collectors a new way to discover and collect local and international artists represented by members of the SICD.
We encourage you to join our e-mail list for information on upcoming activities and special events taking place throughout the year.
Looking ahead, 2017 will be a milestone year in the development of the South Island Cultural District, thanks especially to the newly opened MTR South Island Line. Located only seven minutes from Admiralty Station, the SICD is on the brink of a renewed expansion, welcoming a record number of visitors as well as local and international galleries looking to join Hong Kong’s burgeoning art district. This exciting new development will be instrumental in establishing the SICD as the leading arts district in Hong Kong for years to come.

致各位藝術愛好者：
我們很高興歡迎您蒞臨南港島藝術區 SICD。自 2013 年成立以來，本區發展迅速，現由 23 間本地及國際畫廊，藝術家工作室及非牟利藝術機構組成。本區致力提供每月精選的文化活動，其中包括展出本地新進及國際知名藝術家的作品。
此外，半年度的南港島藝術日更於去年 9 月吸引高達 4500 名藝術愛好者來訪本區。而另一半年度活動則於 3 月作為香港巴塞爾藝術展 VIP 節目舉行，每次亦會吸引許多國際收藏家及策展人慕名而來。於去年 12 月首次舉辦的南港島當代藝術拍賣會，亦將會於今年 6 月再次舉辦。此拍賣會予以收藏家一個有趣的方法來認識由本區成員代理的本土及國際藝術家。

ADC Artspace, the first Arts Space Scheme implemented by Hong Kong Arts Development Council, aims to provide artist studios at concessionary rent to local visual and media artists, especially to emerging artists. The establishment of the ADC Artspace was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Hip Shing Hong (Holdings) Company Limited and the full support from the Home Affairs Bureau. There are 17 artist studios in the ADC Artspace.

AISHONANZUKA is a joint gallery of Japanese galleries, Aisho Miura Arts and Nanzuka. Aisho Miura Arts is 7 years old and Nanzuka is 11 years old. With around ten years of experience in the Japanese art world, Aisho Miura Arts and Nanzuka have participated in major art fairs such as Armory Show, Art Basel HK / Miami / Basel and Frieze. The joint program AISHONANZUKA has started from May 2013. We aim at bringing contemporary Japanese art to Hong Kong art scene by featuring established and emerging artists from Japan and overseas.
AISHONANZUKA 是由 Aisho Miura Arts 及 Nanzuka 兩間日本畫廊合辦。Aisho Miura Arts 及 Nanzuka 分別已成立 7 年和 11 年。在過往十年的日本藝壇經驗中，Aisho Miura Arts 及 Nanzuka 已參與多個大型藝術博覽會如 Armory Show, Art Basel HK / Miami / Basel 和 Frieze。AISHONANZUKA 的合作計畫始於 2013年 5 月，我們希望透過展出日本及海外的新晉及著名藝術家，將日本當代藝術帶到香港藝術圈。

A pioneer in the field of Contemporary Chinese Art and New Ink Art, we are one of the first professionally run galleries in Hong Kong. The gallery focuses on promoting emerging Chinese artists from the mainland as well as established Hong Kong artists and Chinese diaspora living in Europe and the United States of America. Under the leadership of Alice King and Daphne King, the gallery has organized over 100 exhibitions in Hong Kong and abroad during the past 30+ years.In 2009, after being in Prince's Building, Central for over 20 years, Alisan Fine Arts moved to its current location in Aberdeen, providing a larger gallery space for display, office and library. After being away for Central for the last several years, the gallery is excited to be re-opening an additional gallery space on Lyndhurst Terrace, Central in March this year.
作為向全球收藏家推介中國當代藝術和新水墨的先驅，藝倡畫廊是香港成立最早的著名專業畫廊之一，一直推廣中國大陸的新晉藝術家、香港著名藝術家，和居住歐美的海外華裔藝術家。在金董建平女士和金昌玲小姐的領導下，三十多年來藝倡畫廊在香港及海外組織超過一百多個畫展。在中環太子大廈超過二十年，2009 年藝倡畫廊搬遷到香港仔田灣海傍道現址，有更大的空間用作陳列展覽，進行藝術推廣的工作，期許將以更多更好的藝術品介紹給更多喜愛藝術的人士。今年三月重返中環，於擺花街開設多一間畫廊空間。

Kim Jintaek is a contemporary Korean artist, he works in fine arts media-painting and sculpture as well as installation art. Kim’s work spans a variety of media that not only operate in tension with conventional art historical associations of such media, but which also establish tensions with each other when deployed in a successive phases of an exhibition: abstract painting; monumental portrait sculpture; and relief. A unifying feature of the diverse media, and a key to its expressive aspect and engagement with society, is that it invariably employs material constituents that are not merely symbols of consumption, but which are themselves the residue of consumptive acts.
金鎮宅是韓國當代藝術家，曾以木工維生且學習雕塑的他對人類大量消耗浪費木柴的現象有特別深刻的感受，於是藉由被丟棄的木材而開始一段自我省思的路程，並在作品中廣泛使用被視為廢棄物的木材作為主角；類似的概念也展現在使用舊銅器、房屋拆遷的廢棄物、骨頭、咖啡渣等失去人為定義功能的物品，隨之賦予他們嶄新的生命。

Art Statements was founded by Dominique Perregaux in October 2003 in Hong Kong. The gallery has since become an important establishment that represents in Asia internationally celebrated contemporary artists . Pursuing its goal of giving its artists a wide visibility and to reach a pan-Asian audience, Art Statements opened its first overseas branch in Tokyo in October 2010. Beside its regular exhibition programme, the gallery is actively involved in dealing both Western and Chinese Modern and Contemporary Art as well as participating in international art fairs. Art Statements works also extensively with regional architects, interior designers and property developers in public art consultancy projects.
2003 年 10 月，Dominique Perregaux 在香港創立了 Art Statements。至今，這個畫廊已經成為一個可以代表亞洲國際著名當代藝術家的重要機構，在藝術界有著代表性的地位。Art Statements 的理念是為藝術家們創造廣闊的眼界及提供更有效的渠道去接觸泛亞的觀眾，所以在 2010 年 10 月於東京開設了第一家海外分店。除了定期舉行展覽外，畫廊還十分積極參與中西兩方的現代及當代藝術活動，以及參與國際藝術展。此外，Art Statements 亦全面地在多個公共藝術項目中擔任顧問，與地區建築師，室內設計師和房地產開發商緊密合作。

Set up in 2010, Blindspot Gallery is a Hong Kong-based contemporary art gallery, that has a primary focus on contemporary photography and image-based works amongst other media in contemporary art. The gallery represents both emerging and established artists, mainly from Hong Kong and the region but also beyond.
創辦於 2010 年，刺點畫廊是一間建基於香港的當代藝術畫廊，畫廊以當代攝影及影像主導的創作為重點，同時亦展出其他當代藝術媒介。畫廊展出新晉和著名藝術家，他們主要是來自香港及亞洲地區的藝術家，但亦有海外的藝術家。

Wunderkammer were 17th- and 18th-century European “wonder rooms” or “cabinets of curiosity”––some of the earliest known “museums”––which contained specimens reflecting the natural world, anthropology, archaeology, relics, and art. The late Qing emperor Qianlong, known for his passion for the arts, also pursued this type of collecting.
In Caroline Chiu’s case, she collects, by photography, objects representing the material culture of traditional China: bonsai, scholar’s rocks, flowers, artworks depicting the animal zodiac, and goldfish. Her choice of subjects makes reference to historical Chinese culture; her graphic photographic images of goldfish suggest the brushstrokes of traditional Chinese ink painting and the sweeping abstract shapes of Chinese writing.
Because Chiu's images were taken with a rare 20 x 24 inch Polaroid camera—for which film is no longer manufactured––her work is also an elegy to the era of Polaroid cameras and film.
Wunderkammer 於十七至十八世紀歐洲解作 " 多寶櫃 ", 亦是博物館的先祖 - 盛載着自然科學丶人類學丶考古學丶文物和藝術等文化玩物。晚清的乾隆皇熱愛藝術 , 亦有收藏多寶櫃。
趙汝賢以攝影收藏中國傳統文人的價值趣味 , 盆景丶山石丶花草丶動物等。她選擇的中國傳統歷史物件為題 , 她相中的金魚如傳統水墨筆觸及書畫的抽象輪廓。
趙氏以二十吋乘廿四吋寶麗萊攝影 , 該大型底片已不再生產 , 以她的作品又見證着一寶麗萊相機及底片時代的終結。

CHARBON is an hybrid, multipurpose art space which offers throughout the year contemporary art exhibitions, artist sharing & talks, documentaries and movies screenings, live shows (drama, contemporary dance), a library (where one can consult art books while savor a complimentary coffee or organic tea) and some workstations (to rent or free for selected emerging artists).
The purpose here is to create a place full of art and full of life, to host people working, chatting, reading, making, exchanging, meeting and making noise, to provoque blends of different types of artistic expressions.
多用途藝術空間 CHARBON 位於文化活動盛行的地段黃竹坑，CHARBON 致力成 為港島南區的創意集中地，開幕後將有不同類形的藝術展覽，還會定期舉辦現 代表演、電影播放，空間更設有圖書庫和工作室，為藝術從業人士提供共同工 作空間。另外，展覽和售賣獨特 而且十分罕有的藝術精品和擺設，全部都是 Cho el 多年來旅遊時搜購的珍貴小 物，每件背後也有個別的有趣故事。

Chloe Ho (1987, California USA) belongs to a new generation of talented artists born in the 1980's. The artist reflects her multicultural background and signature artistic vision in her paintings. She makes a bold statement through the use of traditional mediums (Chinese ink, acrylics, oil, spray paints and charcoal) all presented from an original perspective. Ho’s artworks always shows an eye for the unexpected, yet aesthetically familiar.
She is exclusively represented by 3812 Gallery and has been featured at numerous recognized shows internationally, including at Fine Art Asia (Beijin and HK) and Ink Asia (HK). Her successful solo exhibitions include those at 3812 Gallery (HK), Forbes Gallery (NY), Joyce Gallery Shanghai and Alisan Fine Arts (HK). Her works are held by private collectors in London, Paris, Gstaad, the United States, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Mainland China.

First established in Paris in 1977, de Sarthe Gallery has continuously pioneered the promotion of a diverse roster of international modern masters and emerging contemporary artists. In 2002, the gallery owners worked closely with Chinese public institutions and organized the Robert Indiana retrospective exhibition at the Shanghai Art Museum. The gallery finalized its international relocation in Hong Kong in 2010, and has since then held groundbreaking shows, such as the Auguste Rodin, Hans Hartung, Chu Teh-Chun, Zao Wou-Ki, Robert Rauschenberg, Chen Zhen and Bernar Venet solo exhibitions, as well as the “gutai” and the “Pioneers of Chinese Modern Paintings in Paris” group exhibitions. In 2014, de Sarthe extended its influence by opening another gallery in Caochangdi, Beijing. With 8,000 square feet of space in China’s capital, the gallery has taken a role representing a wide range of artists that lead the current emerging art scene.

Emma Fordham is a Swedish/British painter who has lived in Hong Kong for three years. Her artwork is inspired by the ever-changing surface of the city where both construction and demolition are ongoing. She aims to explore the fragile relationships between heritage and memory and desired future growth and stability. Emma trained at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and is also a qualified art teacher.
Allison Plastridge is an American figurative painter who has lived in Hong Kong for eight years. She enjoys painting portraits of her immediate family, particularly her children, and preferably from life. She also has a series of on-going self-portraits in various media. Allison received her classical training from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She aims to create works that convey a sense of poetry of the everyday.

Greer Howland Smith was born in the United States and grew up in both America and Europe. Greer earned her MFA as well as a degree in History of Art from the University of Edinburgh in 2005. In addition to her studio space in Hong Kong, she maintains active art projects in New York City and Boston. Genetics and biotechnology is a continuous theme in much of her art and she is currently working on a biotech art project with scientists from Harvard University and MIT.
Greer's latest Hong Kong collection is a series of resin collages. Each collage, largely inspired by various social aspects of Hong Kong life and the history of Hong Kong, is encased in resin, creating a multi-layered “time capsule”.

Based in Hong Kong and Australia, the Scottish sculptor Kirsteen Pieterse draws upon the precarious relationship between man and built environments in her work. Her sculptures resemble architectural models but, rather than celebrate the triumph of mans’ ingenuity over the natural world, they signify unease about man made constructions.

Kumiko Matsushima, born and raised in Tokyo, is a multi media artist (painting, photography, collages) who spent 8 years in the U.S. While pursuing a business career, inspired by the colorful Manhattan, Kumiko started painting in New York, one day out of the blue. Painting cured her from depression and she eventually majored in painting from Pratt Institute, NY, graduating with honor, in 2005. She moved to Hong Kong in 2009. Since her New York days, Kumiko has been exhibiting her work, in both solo and group shows, in New York, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. She is also an active member of The American Women’s Association of Hong Kong, organizing art events for its Art Lovers group.

Marsha Roddy, originally from London, is an artist and designer who exploresthree-dimensional space, movement, texture and how these interlink with human connection and expression. Marsha has a passion for paper, experimenting with its fragility and strength, manipulating it into large sculptures and enjoying the tradi-tions of working on it in ink, pastel and pencil. Paper plays an important role in her live art performance pieces when collaborating with dancers and choreographers.
She believes our creative work saves us from forgetting what really matters, it requires us to be present in the act of doing, working on a level that is beyond words or emotions – that connects deep within our soul. Her en-thusiasm and energy is reflected in many inspirational projects she has worked on across the globe. She loves working in her studio, a sanctuary for creativity amongst the bustling streets of Aberdeen.

Australian-born Michael Nock is a wine connoisseur, successful business man, avid art collector and a passionate painter. A graduate of CalArts, Nock’s art practice roots itself in the rich vernacular of Australian landscape painting. In 2013, Nock established the not-for-profit Nock Art Foundation, seeking to promote cross-cultural artistic collaboration and nurture the arts through projects and exhibitions engaging with artists from Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and China.
