DESCRIPTION
Why a new e-learning tool? Not enough pedagogical hours for teaching woody ornamental plants which results in insufficient knowledge of students. In accordance with the curriculum we would like to develop an e-learning tool, where organization of plants will be based on their use value. This platform will be used for teaching and for fieldwork (gardeners, landscape arhitecture, agronomy, …).

Project scope
Why a new e-learning tool?
• Not enough pedagogical hours for teaching woody ornamental plants which results in insufficient knowledge of students.
• In accordance with the curriculum we would like to develop an e-learning tool, where organization of plants will be based on their use value.
• This platform will be used for teaching and for fieldwork (gardeners, landscape arhitecture, agronomy, …).
Project plan
• Building data base (description of plants – their growing requirements … with the emphasis on their use value).
• Platform browser for searching by key words will be added (Plants for: lines of trees, floor coverings, graveyard, tub plants, hedges, soliter …).
• Platform must be aesthetic & user friendly.
• Web application must be responsive ( for mobile phones, tablets and desktop).
What does use value mean?
Picea abies ‘Inversa’ Picea abies ‘Nidiformis’
This scheme illustrates how the platform will be organized (woody ornamental plants by their common atrributes)
System of Woody Ornamental Plants (SWOP)
• 1st Level of platform organization: System organized by use value – common attributes (not by botanical attributes)
• 2nd Level: by botanical description (as a starting point, we would like to describe 60 genus).
Example
Who will benefit from our platform?
• Students & pupils
• Professionals (park gardeners, gardeners …)
• Teachers
PROTOTYPE
