*北區中學參與教育局「自願優化班級結構」計劃，由2011-2012年起，中一級只開四班。

多元學習表現    本校同學在不同校際比賽均成績彪炳，歷年來在香港學

校朗誦節（中文及英文）及學

校音樂節中均獲獎無數。在香

港國際手鈴奧林匹克2015初級及中級組比賽，本校手鈴隊取

得銀獎。

    數學及電腦方面，本校亦屢獲獎項：在2015港澳數學奧林匹克公開賽《港澳盃》獲金獎八名、銀獎十三名及銅獎十四名。在《華夏盃》全國中小學

數學奧林匹克邀請賽2015獲一等獎兩名、二等獎十名及三等

獎八名。本校在2014加拿大計算機競賽初級及高級組均獲得

榮譽證書及卓越證書。在香港

電腦奧林匹克競賽2014/15，本校獲得學校大獎季軍，中五

鄭啟匡同學獲得初級組銀獎，

中六李卓文及中六阮溢恆同學

獲得高級組銀獎。

    體育成績方面，本校亦傲視同群，於多項校際及學界比賽中屢創佳績。本校在2014-15年度香港學界體育聯會(大埔及北區中學分會)比賽中，取得全年總錦標女子組冠軍及男子組亞軍的驕人成績，同時亦連續十二年奪得學

界水運會全場男女子總冠軍。在2015香港賽艇錦標賽︰女子八人艇（公開組）及香港學界體育聯會新界地域中學校際室內賽艇比賽女子組團體賽，本

校均取得冠軍。

    個人獎項方面，中四施俊源和中四杜家諭同學被選為香港小童群益會香港小特首，而中四梁愷俊同學更獲選新界十大傑出學生。

    在「其他學習經歷」方面，本校舉辦中一生活教育營、參觀博物館、參觀藝術中心及職業博覽、文化表演欣賞等，同學亦參與歌唱比賽及「甲寅電影

節」。此外，學校每年均有舉辦遍及台灣、新加坡、澳洲、英國和新西蘭等地

的境外考察和交流活動，以及一年一度的「服務學習在中國」活動。本校更在

課堂內安排田野考察、參觀及工作坊等全方位學習活動以加強學科學習。

    本校十分重視英語學習環境，除中文、中史、普通話、通識教育及體育

外，其他科目均以英語為教學語言；更

透過不同活動，如英語週、英語角、甲寅

電影節、全球視野週、英語尖子計劃、英

文閱讀計劃、暑期英語營及英語遊學團等，

營造豐富的英語學習環境。此外，本校在初中

亦推行「跨學科英語課程」，使學生能善用英語學習

歷史、地理及科學等科目。近年，我們亦有安排來自西方國家的交流生就

讀本校，以增加同學接觸英語和外國文化的機會。本校將繼續靈活運用資

源，透過一連串跨科目的學習活動，提供更多機會予同學提升聽說讀寫的

能力。

    為進一步提升同學通識教育和英國語文的學習成效，本校參與由教育局舉辦的「通識教育科專業發展學校計劃」，以及「中二級英國語文支援

服務計劃」。此外，本校為中一及中二級設計校本課程，通過跨科協作，

有系統地培育學生在學習方面的共通能力。學生從中一級開始建立個人

「學習歷程檔案」(SLP)，為自己制訂學習目標，定期作出反思及改進計劃。在中二級則推行專題研習，透過跨科協作，訓練學生掌握各種學習及

思考技能，為高中各科的探究學習奠定基礎。我們亦鼓勵學生參與「才藝

『寅』生」計劃及「全『寅』發展獎

勵計劃」，豐富他們的「其他學習經

歷」(OLE)。此外，本校積極照顧學生的學習差異，為成績優異的學生提

供增潤課程，如中、英文辯論、公開

演說、寫作及思考訓練等；同時亦為

有需要的同學在課後及星期六安排功

課輔導，以鞏固同學的學習基礎。

    在本校的價值教育架構下，我們積極為中一至中六同學提供循序漸進的品格發展機會。每年，本校為有志成為朋輩輔導員的高中學生提供適當

培訓，讓他們透過分享及活動，協助中一新生適應中學生活，活動包羅萬

有，包括「同樂日」、「小老師計劃」及「考試攻略訓練班」等。此外，

「全『寅』發展獎勵計劃」鼓勵中一至中三級同學訂立目標，發揮潛能，

領袖發展     我們深信甲寅同學皆擅於領導，因此致力發展他們

的領袖才能。歷年來，我們主要透過「服務學

習」的理念培育學生領袖，在不同層面為他

們提供實踐機會。

    在學校層面，同學參與不同幹事會、校隊和小組的領導工作，除領袖生、朋輩

輔導員、學生會外，尚有其他不同途徑讓

同學成為領袖，例如，同學從參與舞台工

作組、電腦實驗室工作組、升學及擇業工

作組及圖書館領袖生等工作中，擔任不同

的崗位，循序漸進地成為領袖之才。

    在社區層面，同學服務長者等有需要人士，以及擔任區內小學的功課輔導小老師，而其中重點活動是「英文閱讀大使計劃」，本校同學到北區

數間小學出任「閱讀大使」啟導小學生的閱讀興趣。

    此外，通過「聯合國兒童基金會青年大使」、「奧比斯學生大使」等

計劃，同學的服務學習亦得以延伸境

外。其中，他們參與「服務學習在中

國」活動已歷十多年。一如往年，本

校將與區內小學共同籌辦新加坡遊學

團，讓同學出任小學生的領袖，盡展

服務學習的精神。

    Our school  is a whole-day, co-educational, aided secondary school under Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.  Established  in  1982, we  adopt English as  the medium of  instruction  in most subjects and we strive  to provide a high quality and happy learning environment for our students.

    The school motto  “Diligence, Frugality, Loyalty and Faithfulness” is our guiding principle in the moral and  intellectual development of our  students. We strive  to promote positive values and attitudes, and encourage students to lead a full and meaningful life.

    Our school operates with a “4-4-4-5-5-5”class structure*  from S.1  to S.6. The  four S.4 and S.5 classes are divided  into 5 groups  to enhance  the effectiveness of learning and teaching.

    Our school encourages students to strive for excellence, which enables them to attain outstanding achievements  in both academic performance and other learning experiences.

    Our students attained excellent  results  in  the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) 2015.

99.5%  of students got Level 2 or above in five subjects. 81%   of students met the minimum university entrance requirements. 72%   of  students  took  degree  programmes  in  local  and  non-local 

universities and tertiary institutions. 41%   of students attained Level 4 or above in both Chinese and English 

Language.

    We have a brilliant record in inter-school contests. Over the  years,  students  have obtained numerous prizes in  the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival  (Chinese and English) and Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. Our school handbell team got the Silver Award  in both Junior and  Intermediate group of the Hong Kong International Handbell Olympics 2015.

    We also attain remarkable results  in Mathematics contests. Students obtained a total of 55 individual awards in the 2015 Hong Kong and Macao Mathematical Olympiad Open Contest and the HuaXia Cup Mathematics Competition 2015. Our students were awarded the Certificate of Honourable Mention and Certificate of Distinction  in both Junior and Senior Group of the Canadian Computing Competition 2014. In the Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics 2014/15, our school was awarded Grand School Prize (Second Runner Up) and S.5 Cheng Kai Hong got  the Silver Medal  in  the Junior Group, whilst S.6 Li Cheuk Man and S.6 Yuen Yat Hang got Silver Medals in the Senior Group.

    Sports have been one of our strengths and we have excelled in a variety of joint school and inter-school competitions. We were Second in Overall Boys’ and the Overall Champion  in Girls’  in Tai Po & North District Branch Inter-school Competitions 2014-15. We also got the Boys’ Overall and Girls’ Overall Champions  in  the HKSSF (Tai Po & N.D. Branch)  Inter-school Swimming Competition for the twelfth time in a row in 2015. In the Hong Kong Schools Rowing Championships and the HKSSF New Territories Secondary Schools Inter-school Indoor Rowing Championships, we came First in Girls’ Overall. 

    In  terms of  individual prizes, S.4 Sze Chun Yuen and S.4 To Ka Yu were elected Hong Kong Junior Chief Executives by the Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong while S.4 Leung Hoi Chun was also elected one of the Top 10 Outstanding Students of the New Territories. 

    Moreover, many  cultural  activities are organized  for  students  to broaden  their horizons. These  include  the S.1 Life Skills Camp, visits to museums,  the Arts Centre,  the Careers Expo as well  as  cultural performance appreciation. Students also take part  in singing contests and the Kap Yan Film Festival. We arrange overseas study tours every year to countries such as Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, England and New Zealand. There  is also an annual service-learning programme in China.  In addition, life-wide learning activities such as field trips, visits and workshops are held to strengthen subject learning.

English Learning Environment    Our school values English and actively  fosters English  learning on  the campus. Except Chinese Language, Chinese History, Putonghua,  Liberal Studies and Physical Education, all  subjects are taught  in English. Activities  like English Speaking Weeks,  English Corner,  Film  Festival,  Global Awareness Weeks, English  reading programme, summer English Camp and study tours are organized to provide a  rich English  learning environment.  In junior  forms,  the Language Across  the Curriculum (LAC) programme helps students  to develop  the 

language skills to study History, Geography and Science in English. In recent years, we have also arranged exchange students  from western countries to study  in our school  to  increase students’ exposure to English Language and foreign cultures. Our school will continue to actively deploy resources to develop students’ reading, writing,  listening and speaking skills via a range of cross-curricular learning activities.

School-based Gifted Education Programme    Our school offers enhancement classes in Chinese, English, Mathematics and Liberal Studies  to provide opportunities  for elite students  to pursue academic excellence. We organize a wide  range of school-based Gifted Education programmes for students to develop their  talents. Besides subsidizing  them to attend gifted education programmes organized by various universities, gifted students are also encouraged to participate in programmes such as ‘Hong Kong Junior Chief Executives’, ‘The Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme’, ‘TWGHs Elite Nurturing Programme’, ‘TWGHs Support Scheme for Elite Sport and Art students’ and ‘Chinese Language Elite Programme by EDB’ to realize their goals and develop their talents.

School-based Curriculum and Catering for Learner Diversity    Our school has  joined the  ‘Liberal Studies Professional Development Schools Scheme’ and  ‘S.2 English Language Learning Support Service’ organized by the Education Bureau to promote cross-curricular planning and collaboration to enhance the quality of Liberal Studies and English Learning. A school-based curriculum  is designed  for S.1 and S.2  to equip students systematically with generic skills of learning. Under this curriculum, study and thinking skills are taught through collaboration between subjects. S.1 students have the opportunity to develop their personal Student Learning Profile (SLP) through the stages of goal setting, planning, implementation and evaluation.  S.2 students are also well equipped with skills required for their enquiry studies in the NSS curriculum through project learning. The ‘Kap Yanners Talent Scheme’ and  the  ‘Whole Person Development Award’ augment  the Other Learning Experiences (OLE). We also put emphasis on catering for  learner diversity. We provide subject enrichment programmes for the high achievers, such as debates, public speaking, writing and  thinking skill training sessions. Tutorial classes are also arranged for the students in need after school and on Saturdays, with the aim of helping students to lay a solid foundation for academic development.

    Life-Planning Education  aims  at  providing further study and career  information, guidance and assistance to  facilitate students  in making rational decisions on  their  career planning. Partnerships are built with alumni,  parents,  non-government organizations and the business sector. School-wide career guidance activities  (including  form  teacher periods,  further study and career exploration and parent  talks) are arranged  to enhance students’ awareness and decision making skills over  their study pathways and career choices.

    Guided by our school-based Values Educat ion  Framework,   we  promote the  character  development  of  students progressively from S.1 to S.6. Every year, we train a group of senior-form students to serve as Peer Counsellors. They help S.1 students to adapt to secondary school life through sharing and activities such as ‘Fun Day’, the ‘Peer Teaching Scheme’ and examination skills classes. ‘The Whole Person Development Award’ encourages S.1 to S.3 students to achieve higher goals and instill moral qualities. It aims to unleash students’ potential and assist 

them in establishing positive life attitudes. Talks and activities are held to foster their critical and independent thinking skills and nurture them into responsible citizens with both a local and global vision. Through participation in a large variety of clubs and associations, students are equipped with love and care, perseverance, responsibility, leadership and intelligence.

Leadership Development    We believe all Kap Yanners are  leaders. Thus, we have  initiated a number of programmes  to develop student  leadership. Throughout  the years, service-learning has been a key  tactic to nurture  leadership skills among students. Opportunities are provided at school,  in  the local community and outside Hong Kong.

    In school, students participate  in various committees,  teams and groups as  leaders such as prefects, peer counsellors and Student 

Association. There  are many  other ways  for students to be leaders. For instance, students are trained in the Stage Crew, Computer Laboratory Working Committee, Careers Working Committee and Library Prefect,  in which they take up different roles at different stages of leadership development.

    In  the  local community, our students serve people  in need, such as the elderly and the primary school students. One highlight  is  the  ‘Reading Buddy Scheme’  in which our student  leaders serve as buddies  for some primary schools in North District.

    Our students also have chances to serve outside Hong Kong through activities  including  ‘UNICEF Young Envoy Programme’ and ‘ORBIS Student Ambassador Campaign’. Moreover, a  cross-border  service- learning programme in China has been held for students for more than 10 years. This year, we will continue to co-organize a service-learning trip to Singapore with a primary school in North District and our students will serve as the  leaders for primary school students.
