Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or one or more concluding sentences that emphasize their most important point or focus. ISTE Student Standards: 2. Communication and Collaboration Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students: b. Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats

Overview: This lesson is designed as a getting-to-know-you activity for the first weeks of school.

Tips and tricks Use the I do, then you do method. Show students one step at a time and then allow them to do the step. Mystery kid panels can be printed or projected. Other students can take turns guessing who the mystery kid is.

Time Needed for Lesson One hour

Directions:

This lesson is designed to be a getting-to-know-you activity for the first weeks of school. Capture your photo Open Photo Booth. Take a photo of just your head and neck. Drag the photo to your desktop. Using PicMonkey Open Firefox. Go to PicMonkey http://www.picmonkey.com/ Click on Edit a Photo. Go to the desktop and find your photo. Drag the photo to the pane that says, Drag photo here (the blue box under the monkey). Your photo should show up in the big pane. Click on Crop. Click on Scale Photo. Change Actual Size to 800 x 150. Click on the center of the crop window and move it around to show one part of your face. Click Apply.

Add a clue Click on P to choose a font. Click on your font choice. Then click in the text box. Type a clue about yourself. Click Add. Your text will appear and a window with text choices will pop up. Choose your font color and size. Click on the Save button at the top Name your photo with your name. Click Save Photo It will be saved to your desktop. Your project should look something like this:
