Nowthatyouhaveofficiallydedicatedyourselftolearningmoreaboutourorganizationandprofessed
yourwillingnesstocompletetherequirementsnecessarytobecomeaBrotherofPHIDELTACHI,your
formaleducationabouttheorganizationcanbegin.
BrothersDeanMcCann,DickParent,andDickSmithofOmicronChapterorganizedPHIDELTACHI’sfirst
PledgingManualonNovember2,1951.In1965,BrothersofLambdaChapterrevisedtheManual,ledbyBrotherRobertPatterson.Subsequentrevisionsoccurredin1976,ledbyBetaBetaChapter;in1983,led
byDeltaChapteranddelegatestothe1983GrandCouncil;in1987,ledbyAlphaEtaChapter;and
between1998and2005,coordinatedbyDaveKarlsandMichaelMohundro.Thisseventheditionwas
coordinatedbythecombinedeffortsoftheBrotherEducationCommittee.Eacheditionhasbenefitted
frominputfromBrothersacrossthecountry.
Thisiterationoftheeducationmanualwasdesignedtohelpfacilitateandfosteraninteractiveand
enjoyableseriesofsessionsdedicatedtolearningmoreaboutPHIDELTACHI–past,present,andfuture.
AsyouworkthroughthismanualwiththeChapter’sFacilitatorandyourfellowCandidates,bemindful
oftherichhistoryonwhichPHIDELTACHIisfounded,andbeawarethatyoucanbethefutureofPHI
DELTACHI.
Usethismanualasaguidethroughoutyourcandidacyandbeyond.Thismanualrepresentsthe
minimumexpectededucationofaBrotherofPHIDELTACHI.Weencourageyoutogoaboveand
beyondtolearnmoreaboutPHIDELTACHIandtogetmoreinvolvedasyourjourneycontinues.

Hollenback--aGrandOfficerfrom1923through1965--wascalledtheBrotherwhohadcrossedpaths
withmoreBrothersthananyone.
Undoubtedly,withtheaccumulationofChaptersandBrothersweenjoytoday,itisRalphL.Saroyan
whoisunsurpassedinembracingchange,inspiringsuccessivegenerations,andconstantlyseekingmore

haveenjoyedinPHIDELTACHI,Ipromisethatyouwilllookback
onthiseventasonethatchangedthetrajectoryofyour
professionalcareer.
Tohelpyoulearnmoreabouttheorganizationyouarejoining,
thisPHIDELTACHIEducationManualwillprovideyouwith
valuableinsightsandinformation.Thisedition—whichhasbeen
updatedinveryimportantwaystoreflectlifeinthe21stcentury
—willprepareyouforactivemembershipinyourChapterand
helpyoudiscoverwhatitmeanstobePHIDELTACHIforlife.
PHIDELTACHIistheprofessionalfraternityofpharmacythathas
“leaderdevelopment”asitsprimarymission.ThisisanimportantdistinctionofourFraternity,onethat
IhopeiscentraltothebondthathasformedbetweenyouandPHIDELTACHI.Althoughthemantra
“leadersinpharmacy”wasusedbytheFraternityasearlyasthe1950s,itwasin1989thatourfirst
nationalLeader-DevelopmentSeminarwasheld,duringtheGrandCouncilinMonterey,California.The
followingyear,PHIDELTACHIbegansponsoringbiennialLeader-DevelopmentSeminars.Thisprogram
—nowadministeredandexpandingthroughourfoundation,thePharmacyLeadership&Education
Institute,PLEI—hastouchedthelivesofthousandsofCollegiateandAlumniBrothersbyproviding
“personal”and“leader”developmentthroughafour-dayimmersioncourse.
DuringyourCandidacyperiod,theoldcliché,“YouwillgetfromPHIDELTACHIwhatyouputintoit,”is
particularlyrelevant.YouwillchallengeyourselfasafutureleaderoftheFraternityandthePharmacy
ProfessionaswellastheCommunityyouwillserve.Assuch,youmustbalancevariousaspectsoflife,
includingtimewithfamilyandfriends,yourhealthandfitness,yourcareer,andservicetoyour
professionandcommunity.Duringyourpharmacystudies,PHIDELTACHIwillactasafulcrum,helping
youtoreachthisbalance.If,however,atanytimeduringyourmembershipeducationyoufeel
overloaded,relyonourmotto,AlterumAlteriusAuxilioEget,orEachNeedstheHelpoftheOther,togettheassistanceyouneed.

CANDIDATE–Anindividualpursuingstudyintheprofessionofpharmacy,whohasmadeacommitment
tolearnmoreaboutbecomingaBrotherofPHIDELTACHIandisactivelypursuingmembershipwithin
PHIDELTACHI.ThistitleisusedfromthetimeaCandidatereceivestheirPHIDELTACHICandidatepin
untilcompletionoftheformalinitiationceremony.
CANDIDATECLASS–AgroupofseveralCandidatestrainingtogethertowardmembershipinPHIDELTA
CHI.
RECRUITMENT–ThetimeduringwhichCollegiateandAlumniBrothersofPHIDELTACHIseektorecruit
newmemberstotheFraternity.Synonymouswithrush.Recruitmentcanincludesocialactivitiesto
meetpotentialcandidatesandshouldalsoincludeinformationalactivitiestodescribePHIDELTACHI’s
mission,vision,andvalues. CANDIDATESELECTION–AninvitationfromaChapterofPHIDELTACHItopotentialCandidates,inviting
themtocontinuetotheCandidacyperiod,iftheysodesire.Chaptersarenotrequiredtoextendan
invitationtoeveryinterestedpersoniftheChapterdoesnotfeelthatpersonwouldbeaproductiveand
activememberoftheFraternity.Chaptersmaynotdiscriminateonthebasisofgender,race,ethnicity,
religion,orotherpersonalcharacteristicsspecifiedbyfederallawortheirhostuniversity.Candidates
willbegivenaCandidatepintobewornthroughouttheCandidacyperioduntilinitiated. COLLEGIATEBROTHER–ABrotherofPHIDELTACHIwhohascompletedtheformalinitiationceremony
andiscurrentlycompletingtheirstudiesinanacademicpharmacyprogram.Thistitleisuseduntilthe
BrotherbecomesanAlumniBrother. ALUMNIBROTHER–ABrotherofPHIDELTACHIwhohasgraduatedfrompharmacyschool,has
transferredtoadifferentpharmacyschoolthathasnoChapterofPHIDELTACHI,orhaslefttheircollege
oruniversityanddoesnotcontinueinacourseofpharmacystudyelsewhere.BrotherhoodinPHIDELTA
CHIisalifelongcommitmentthatlastsbeyondthetimespentpursuingapharmacydegree.Alumni
BrothersareexpectedtoparticipateactivelyinFraternitymatters.ManyleadershippositionswithinPHI
DELTACHIarefilledbyAlumniBrothers. BIGBROTHER–ACollegiateBrotherpairedtoaCandidateasamentorregardingFraternitymattersand
alsoasaguidefortheCandidateduringtheireducationprocessandthroughouttheircollegiatecareer
(andperhapsbeyond).FamilylineagethroughastringofBigBrothersisalinkwithinthefraternalbond
thataCandidateshareswiththeirBigBrotherorCandidateParent.

GRADUATEBROTHER–Apersonwhoisengagedinprofessionalpharmacyoritsalliedfields,whohas
joinedPHIDELTACHIaftergraduation.CandidatesforGraduateBrothermustbeacceptedbya¾vote
oftheCollegiateChapteratwhichtheywillinitiate,payanInitiationFee,andcompletetheformal
initiationceremony.Onceinitiated,GraduateBrothersassumethestatusofAlumniBrothersandare
extendedallprivilegesassuch.Example–afacultymemberwhowasnotinitiatedintoanyother
professionalpharmacyfraternityduringtheirschooling,whowishestobecomeamemberofPHIDELTA
CHI.Mostoftenappliestofacultymembers,sothattheymaybecomeChapteradvisors. HONORARYBROTHER–Apersonwhohasdistinguishedhimselforherselfintheprofessionof
pharmacyandisacceptedbya¾voteoftheCollegiateChapterandmajorityapprovaloftheExecutive
Council.TheindividualmustsigntheConstitutionofPHIDELTACHIandagreetorespectthe
confidentialityofthatpartoftheFraternityRitualknownasOmicron.Example–apharmacyschool
Deanorfacultymember,whomtheCollegiateChapterwishestorecognizeashavingdistinguished
himselforherselfintheprofessionofpharmacy.HonoraryBrothersarerareandaverydistinguished
classificationrestrictedtothosewhohaveexcelledintheprofession. INITIATION–TheformaleventfeaturingtheRitualwherebyaCandidatebecomesaBrotherofthe
FraternityofPHIDELTACHI.TheCandidateswillbeintroducedtoourRitualandparticipateinactivitieswithcurrentBrothersdesignedtohelptheCandidatesunderstandtheweightyobligationtheyare
takingonandfurtherelaborateonourfoundingprinciples.Eachindividualmustreceiveafavorable¾
voteoftheCollegiateChapterthatheorshewishestojointobeallowedtoproceedwithinitiation.
PROFESSIONALDAY–SomeChaptersmaychoosetohaveadesignateddayduringwhichBrothersand
Candidatesarerequiredtodressmoreformallyoncampus.AProfessionalDaycanbeusedtoshowthe
respectweholdforourFraternity,andoftenisdoneonthesamedayaFormalMeetingisheld.While
CandidatesarenotallowedtoattendFormalMeetingsoftheChapteruntilafterinitiation,participation
inaProfessionalDaywithBrothersisencouragedandtheCandidatepinshouldbewornwithpride.
BUDDYCHAPTER–Eachyear,aspartoftheAchievementAwardProgram(AAP;seeModule6–
AchievementAwardProgramformoreinformation),eachChapterisassignedaBuddyChapter.These
ChaptersconnectatleasttwiceduringtheacademicyeartoreceivecreditwithintheAAP.Chapterpairs
areencouragedtoconnectmorefrequentlyandusetheirBuddyChapterasaresourcetolearnnew
ideasforevents,tohelpworkthroughanyChapterdifficulties,andtocompleteprofessional,service,
social,orfundraisingeventstogether,asable.

YouwillgetfromPHIDELTACHIwhatyouputintoit.Youwilllearnabouttheideals,history,and
personalityofPHIDELTACHI.Inaddition,youwillchallengeyourselfasafutureLeaderinPharmacy.As
afutureleader,youmustbalancemultipleaspectsoflife,includingtimewithfamilyandfriends,your
health,yourprofessionalcareer,andservicetothecommunity.Duringyourpharmacystudies,PHI
DELTACHIactsasafulcrumandaguidestar,helpingyoutoreachthisbalance.If,however,atanytime
duringyoureducationyoufeeloverloaded,tellyourFacilitatororBigBrother.Remember,AlterumAlteriusAuxilioEget,meaningEachNeedstheHelpoftheOther.
TheInitialPledgeofBrotherhoodandFidelityisnottobetakenlightly.Youhavecommittedtothenext
stageofbecomingaBrotherofPHIDELTACHI.Withthatcommitment,youhaveassumedgreat
responsibilityandtraditionalobligations. EachCandidateofPHIDELTACHIshouldendeavortoshowtheutmostrespectfortheFraternity.
Throughoutthefraternaleducationprocess,aCandidateshouldbesincereinhisorhereffortstolearn
abouttheassociationtowhichheorshehasmadeaformalcommitment.Lackofeffortorsincerityis
groundsforadmonishmentoftheCandidatebytheFacilitator,includingrequiringremedialwork,
additionaltaskstoshowsincerity,and,ifnecessary,removalfromCandidacy.Asamemberofthis
Fraternity,anindividualbecomesaBrotherforLife,whichdemandstheutmostrespectandsincerityfor
theFraternity,itsmembers,itsRitual,anditsideals.
UponcommittingtotheFraternity,amanorwomansurrendersnolegalorsocialrights,nofamilyor
personalaffiliations,noranymoreorreligiousidealsorstandards.Theperson’sstatuschangesonlyin
thatnewresponsibilitiesandspecialobligationshavebeenvoluntarilyassumed.Withthoseobligations,
certainrightsandprivilegesareacquired.
Duringfraternaleducation,Candidateslearntoacttogetherasateam.Asateam,theylearnto
integratethemselvesintothelargerteamthatisthecollegiateChapter.This“blendingofwaters”isa
challengeandanopportunityforbothCandidatesandBrotherstodemonstrateFraternalism,repeated
cyclicallyeachsemesteroryear.
TheFraternity,byitsveryname,isaBrotherhood.Therefore,aCandidatehastherighttoexpect
treatmentlikethatofaBrother.TheCandidatealsohastherighttofairconsiderationandtreatment
fromthosewithmorefraternalexperience.ItistherightandprivilegeoftheCandidatetomakeknown
wantsorneedsandtooffersuggestionstotheChapterthroughhisorherBigBrother.ThisBigBrother
isappointedasaFraternalguide.
CandidatesshouldhavecompleteconfidenceintheirBigBrothers.Candidatesshoulddiscussfreelyall
aspectsoftheFraternitywithoutfearofcriticism.EachBigBrothershouldoffercarefulguidanceand
advice.OpenmindsandlisteningearsareprimaryrequirementsforBigBrothers.BigBrotherscanoften
forestallproblemsinfraternaleducationandtroublewiththecollegiateChapterbypropercounseling.

YourCandidateClasswillmeetregularlywithyourFacilitatortodiscusstheFraternityandplanprojects.
Justaspharmacyclassworkrequirespreparationinadvance,youmustreadsectionsofthisManualand
completeassignmentsbeforethesemeetings.Attendanceismandatory.Ifotherdutiesconflictwitha
meeting,contactyourFacilitatorinadvancetomakespecialarrangements.BringthisManualtoall
meetings(electronicallyoronpaper).ThisManualbelongstotheFraternityuntilyourinitiation;
thereafteryoumaykeepit.Beforeeachmeeting,readthespecifiedmaterialforthatsession;before
learningnewmaterial,youwillbequizzedonmaterialpreviouslyassigned.Themoduleswilloften
requireyoutoexploretheFraternitywebsite,www.phideltachi.org.Youcanalso“like”PHIDELTACHI
onFacebook®andfollowourpoststhere.
MeasuringYourProgress
TheFacilitatorwillquizyouonthematerialcumulativelytodate,atthebeginningofeachsession.The
Facilitatorthenwilldiscussmaterialforthecurrentsession.Finally,youwillmeetinspecificcommittees
orinformallytogettoknowyourCandidateClassandtheChapterbetter.Youmaybeaskedtogive
shortpresentationsorwriteshortessays.Weexpectyoutobeself-directedandself-motivated.
Teamworkiskey.Weworktogetheronprojectsandenjoyfreetimetogether.Everyonemust
participate,accordingtohisorherability.OurBrotherhoodisopentoyou,andalifelongfraternalbond
awaitsyou.Beresourceful:thisManualcontainsmany,butnotall,answers.ConsultChapterOfficers,
BrothersoftheChapter,yourBigBrother,theChapterAdvisor,RegionalOfficers,GrandOfficers,orthe
NationalOfficeasneeded.
TheexpectationforeachCandidateistoachieveacumulativescoreof83%onquizzes.Ifacandidateis
foundtobeperforminginadequatelyonmultiplequizzes,theFacilitatorwilldiscussperformancewith
theCandidateand,ifnecessary,createaremediationplantoensurecontinuedsuccessofthe
Candidate.Thismayincludereviewingpastmaterialandretakingquizzes.If,aftertakingcorrective
action,theCandidateisstillfoundtobeperforminginadequately,theCandidatemaybeaskedto

Riskmanagementisacriticaltopictopreservethehealthandwell-beingoftheFraternityandits
Brothers.Itispartofaprocessmeanttodeterminethelevelofacceptableprofessionalandfraternal
participation.Atthe58thGrandCouncil(Baltimore,1991),theBrotherhoodvotedtoadoptaRisk
ManagementPolicy.Byfulfillingthispolicy,theFraternityhelpsreducethelikelihoodthatpersonal
injuryorlegalissueswilloccurduringaChapterfunctionorduringtheeducationprocess.
Whilealcoholmisuseandabusearethemainissuefirstconsideredwhendiscussingriskmanagement,
behaviorsthatputindividualsandChaptersatriskincludehazing,sexualabuseanddisregardforfire,
healthandsafetypolicies.Chaptershavefoundthemselvesfacingdevastatingconsequencesasaresult
ofdeviationfromthewrittenEducationManualandRitualceremony.
BrothersandCandidatesarestronglyencouragedtoexplorethemeaningoftheRiskManagement

TheRiskManagementPolicyofthePhiDeltaChiPharmacyFraternityincludestheprovisionsthatfollow
andshallapplytoallfraternityentitiesandalllevelsoffraternitymembership.
ALCOHOLANDDRUGS
1. Thepossession,useand/orconsumptionofALCOHOLICBEVERAGES,whileonChapterpremises,
duringanofficialfraternityevent,orinanysituationsponsoredorendorsedbytheChapter,
mustbecompliantwithallapplicablelawsofthestate,province,county,cityanduniversity.
2. Noalcoholicbeveragesmaybepurchasedthroughthechaptertreasurynormaythepurchaseof
thesameforBrothersorguestsbeundertakenorcoordinatedbyanyBrotherinthenameofor
onbehalfoftheChapterduringanofficialfraternityfunctionexceptunderconditionsthata
licensedbartenderberetainedwhoassumesliabilityfordispensingalcoholicbeverages,and
universityapprovalhasbeenobtainedfortheevent.Thepurchaseand/oruseofabulkquantity
ofsuchalcoholicbeverages,i.e.,kegs,isprohibited.
3. NoChapterBrothers,collectivelyorindividually,shallpurchasefor,serveto,orsellalcoholic

HAZING
NoChaptershallconducthazingactivities.Hazingactivitiesaredefinedas:“Anyactiontakenor

carriedonoutsideorinsideoftheconfinesoftheChapterhouse;wearingofpublicapparelwhichis

degradingorhumiliatinggamesandactivities;andanyotheractivitieswhicharenotconsistentwith
fraternallaw,ritualorpolicyortheregulationsandpoliciesoftheeducationalinstitution.”
SEXUALABUSE

1. AllChapterhousesshall,priorto,during,andfollowingoccupancy,meetalllocalfireandhealth

Aspartofoureffortsasaprofessionalpharmacyfraternity,PHIDELTACHIiscommittedtoraisingfunds
andawarenessforworthycauses.Since1995,ChaptersandBrothersofPHIDELTACHIhavejoined
togethertoraisefundsforSt.JudeChildren’sResearchHospitalthroughvariousmeans.InAugust2007,
theFraternityexpandedsupportofSt.JudeChildren’sResearchHospitalusingatargetedletter-writing
campaigncalledThePrescriptionforHope.Throughthiscampaign,theFraternitypledgedto
raise$200,000over4years.InApril2009,PHIDELTACHIsurpassedthisgoalwithinjust2years!Upon
completionofthiscommitment,theSt.JudeChildren’sResearchHospital’soutpatientpharmacylocated
onthefirstfloorofthePatientCareCenterwasnamedinrecognitionofPHIDELTACHI.Aplaque

KappaEpsilonwasfoundedonMay13,1921,attheUniversityofIowabyZadaM.Cooper.Kappa
Epsilonhad17womenpresentatitsfoundingmeetingrepresentingtheUniversitiesofMinnesota,
Nebraska,andIowa.AlphaChapterisattheUniversityofMinnesota.
Theobjectivesaretopromotewomeninpharmacy,stimulateadesireforhighscholarship,fostera

KappaPsiFraternitywasfoundedonMay30,1879,atRussellMilitaryAcademyinNewHaven,
Connecticut.InitiallyitwasaliteraryGreek-lettersociety;asitshighschoolstudentsmovedonto
college,itevolvedintoamedical-pharmaceuticalfraternityandcontinuedassuchuntil1924.Kappa
Psi’sfirstpharmacychapterwasnotformeduntil1898atColumbiaUniversity.In1924,bymutual

fraternity.TheobjectivesofΡΠΦaretoprovideasocialandprofessionalmeetinggroundfor
pharmaceuticalstudentsandgraduatepharmacistsofanyethnicorracialbackgroundandwithout
regardtorace,creed,color,orsex.Itsgoalistoprovideforastrongerprofessionalimageforpharmacy

NationalHistory&TraditionsABriefHistoryWiththesupportofAlbertB.Prescott,DeanoftheCollegeofPharmacy,11menattheUniversityofMichiganfoundedPhiChionNovember2,1883.Thisnewprofessionalsocietywasforstudentsofpharmacyandofchemistry,twointertwineddisciplinesinthatera.Inthepreambletoouroriginalconstitutionandbylaws,ourFounderswrote“Recognizingthenecessityof,andthemutualbenefitstobederivedfrom[anassociation]devotedtothesciencesofpharmacyandchemistry,acarefulinvestigationinto,andafreediscussionofsubjectsrelativetothesame..."ThenamePhiChiwasselectedtoemphasizeitsdedicationtothefieldsofpharmacyandchemistry.Shortlyafterourfounding,therewasamotiontochangethenametoPHIDELTACHI,howeverthismotionfailed.In1889and1894,twomedicalfraternitieswerefoundedwiththenamePhiChi.Atthebeginningofthe20thcentury,thesefraternitiesconsolidatedintooneandretainedthenamePhiChi.TherewasdebateoverwhohadclaimtothenameofPhiChiandthus,thenamePHIDELTACHIwasreconsidered.Toavoidcontinueddisputewiththemedicalfraternity,thenamechangetoPHIDELTACHIwasagainproposedatthe10thGrandCouncil(Chicago,1909).Thisproposalwaspassedatthe11thGrandCouncil(NewYork,1910).PHIDELTACHIhassurvivedmorethanthedisputeovernamingrights.DuringtheGreatDepression,theBrotherhoodfounditincreasinglychallengingtoservebothprofessionsofpharmacyandchemistry.Seekingtoensurethesurvivalofthefraternity,membershiprequirementswerealteredtoacceptonlythosemajoringinpharmacy,establishingourcurrentprofessionalpharmacyfraternity.From1967to1988,thefraternitysawonlytwonewChapterscharteredasthefraternitydevotedresourcestofightingandlaterimplementingtheTitleIXrequirementtoadmitwomen.AftereffortstopersuadeCongresstoexemptprofessionalfraternitiesfromTitleIXrequirementsfailed,PHIDELTACHIamendeditsconstitutioninsummer1976.InNovember1976,Iota(TheUniversityofMaryland)becamethefirstchaptertoinitiatewomen.Since1988,PHIDELTACHIhasseenrapidexpansionthroughthefoundingofnewChapters.Thisexpansionwasdriveninpartbytherapidopeningsofnewpharmacyschoolsthroughthe1990sand2000s.DeltaDelta(TheUniversityofFlorida)hasthedistincthonorofbeingthe100thchaptercharteredbyPHIDELTACHI.

RitualIn1884,theFoundingFathersadoptedamodestinitiationprocessandsimpleregalia.In1887,thePhiChiSocietywasreorganizedintoasecretGreekLetterFraternityandachangeintheritualandregaliawasmade.“Signs,”“Grips,”and“Words”werealsoadopted.TheoldestsurvivingcopyoftheRitualdatesto1921,duringthetenureofGrandPresidentEmoryW.Thurston.TheRitualisremarkablyunchangedinitsprincipallessons.Thelessonsareallegoricalandstillpertinentafterallthesedecades,insofarastheytouchoncoreaspectsofhumanity.FurtherdiscussionofthehistoryofourRitualappearsintheRitualBookitself(privilegedcontent)andinPhiDeltaChi:ATraditionofLeadersinPharmacy,SecondEdition(publiccontent). AchievementAwardProgramTheDaleW.DoerrAchievementAwardProgram,betterknownastheAAP,isanoncompetitiveprograminvolvingthesubmissionofmonthlyChapterreports.TheAAPprovidesaframeworkforChapteroperationsandthusservesasthefoundationfromwhichaChaptermayorganizeandplantheireventseveryyear.TheProgrampromotescorrespondencewiththeNationalOffice,encouragescommunicationbetweenChapters,andimprovesChapters'relationswithAlumniBrothers.In1956,thefirstAchievementAwardCupwaspresented.Atfirst,onlyoneChapterwasrecognized.Infollowingyears,eachChapterachieving100%intheAAPreceivedanengravedLovingCup.EfficiencyCupsweregiventoChaptersparticipatingatthe90to99%level,andsmallerEfficiencyCupsweregiventoChaptersscoringbetween80and89%.AlltheCupshavesincebeenreplacedwithplaquesdenotingthescoresthateachChapterreceived.TheAAPwasnamedin1993torecognizeDaleW.Doerr(Psi),pastGrandPresidentandExecutiveDirectorofPHIDELTACHI,andDeanofPharmacyatButlerUniversity,whoconceivedandimplementedtheprogram.TheWorthyCorrespondent(WC)istheagentprimarilyresponsibleforreportingtheAAPitems.TheWCservesasthepointofcommunicationbetweentheNationalOffice,theRegionalOfficers,andeachlocalChapter.TheWCworksinconjunctionwiththeAchievementAwardCommitteetoensureallitemsofeachreportarecompletedandsubmittedinatimelyfashion.

EmoryW.ThurstonGrandPresident’sAwardInadditiontotherequireditemseverymonth,therearefivelongerwrittenreportsdueatvarioustimesthroughtheyear,whicharescoredaspartoftheEmoryW.ThurstonGrandPresident’sAward,betterknownastheThurstonCup.Thisawardwasestablishedin1974throughagenerousgiftfrompastGrandPresidentEmoryW.Thurston(Omicron).TheGrandPresident'sAwardisgiventotheChapterthatbestpromotedtheprofessionofpharmacyandPHIDELTACHIfullyduringtheprecedingyear.Toqualify,aChaptermustreceivea90%orhigherratingintheAchievementAwardProgram.Those

AlumniObligationsAlumniBrothersareobligatedtostayconnectedanddeclarecommitmentstotheFraternitybypayingalumniduesannually.NationalAlumniDues(NADs)are$80peryearandhelpsupporttheoperatingbudgetoftheFraternity.First-yearNADsare$40.ThispromotionalrateencouragesnewgraduateswhoarejuststartingtheircareertoremaininvolvedintheFraternity.First-yearNADsalsohelpsupportthenationaloperatingbudgetofPHIDELTACHI.AsCollegiateBrotherstransitiontoalumnistatus,thefirstportionofpost-graduationduescanbepaidbytheCollegiateChapter,iftheChaptersochooses.ThisfinancialarrangementfacilitatesaBrother’stransitionfromCollegiatetoAlumnus.EachnewgraduatewhopaystheirAlumnidueswillreceiveanofficialPHIDELTACHIcointhatismintedwiththegraduationyear.ThecoinwillhavetheFraternity’sGreeklettersand“LeadersinPharmacy”ononeside.Theothersidewilldisplaythecrest,themotto,and“BrothersforLife.”Apictureofthecoinisshownbelow.LifetimeMembershipDuesare$800andpaidonlyonce.LifetimeMembershipisdifferentfromregularNADsinthatfundscollectedfromLifetimeMembershipsareplacedinareserveaccount,whichisusedtopayforthenationalservicestoAlumniBrothers.OurAlumniBrothersserveaspreceptors,residencydirectors,teachers,andcolleaguesformanyoftheCollegiateBrotherswhoarejustbeginningtheirjourneyinPHIDELTACHI.AttendanceatRegionalandNationalmeetingsbyAlumniBrothersishighlyencouraged.NotonlydoesattendancefacilitatecontinuedinvolvementinFraternityaffairs,butitalsoallowscontinuedgrowthofeachBrother’spersonalpharmacynetwork.PharmacyisasmallprofessionandthoseconnectionscanprovetobeinvaluableforbothCollegiateandAlumniBrothers.
