Who Gets Well...Who Gets WealthyWe show how nursing homes are getting Medicare to pay for long term care albeit the fact that Medicare steadfastly claims that they do not pay for long term care. This course looks at traditional long term care options and is a valuable resource regardless of whether you work in the long term care market or just need information on a personal basis. This is a challenging yet highly rewarding field that you can become part of after completing Iowa Western's Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic program.

Paramedic Program (Hybrid) Day and evening classes available!Paramedics provide the highest level of pre-hospital emergency care. Utilizing critical thinking skills, they rapidly assess, treat and stabilize injured or ill patients and provide transport to or between hospitals. Settings may include ground and air ambulances, emergency departments, critical care units or cardiac cath labs. The hybrid format is more adaptive to busy work schedules and places value on your time in the classroom. Our instructors are first-rate and you'll receive the most up-to-date education with emphasis on real-world application. The core courses meet in the classroom every Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm. There are 8-12 hours of online work to be completed each week in addition to the face-to-face sessions. It is essential that you have working knowledge of computers. The online course work will be comprised of online lecture videos, quizzes, exams, and assignments. You'll be able to access the lectures at anytime throughout the week and watch as many times as desired. The face-to-face sessions will consist of hands-on learning in Iowa Western’s state-of-the-art simulation center designed specifically for EMS education. As you acquire new skills you will be assimilated into scenario based learning. You will have 100-200 clock hours of internship to be completed outside of class each semester. You should plan on attending 12 hours of internship each week throughout the program to complete and be ready to test for certification at the end of the program.There are four courses that will meet 16 hours each (2 consecutive all-day sessions). These courses will provide you with valuable education and certifications that will prove to be fundamental in gaining employment:

Wastewater/Water 30-Hour Basic Wastewater Treatment WorkshopThe 30 Hr. Basic Wastewater Treatment Class is for entry-level and current grade I or II operators. This class, along with 6 months experience will satisfy the eligibility requirement for the Iowa DNR Wastewater Treatment Grade I and is a good review for anyone planning to take the Wastewater Treatment Grade II exam. The course objective is to provide operators and managers with the knowledge, skill, abilities, and judgment essential to safely operate and maintain their facilities as well as manage their facilities using appropriate financial strategies. Outdoor Portrait WorkshopSo you don't have a fancy portrait studio, but you like taking portraits. Well, one of the best studios available to all photographers is the outdoors. Photographer Pasquale Mingarelli has plenty of experience in outdoor portraiture. We'll discuss outdoor challenges as posing, backgrounds, children, the use of props and how to make the most of the available outdoor light.
