Whitford Catholic Primary School is committed to the ideals and benefits of 21st century learning for all students.
We continue to look at ways we can enhance the quality and standard of education through the use of technology to prepare our students for the future.
The Future
Australian Curriculum requirement - ICT incorporated throughout all learning areas. It's not a standalone subject anymore.
In 2016, after researching current ICT informed practice in education, Whitford Catholic Primary School initiated a very successful 1:1 BYO iPad program in Years 3 & 5.
This saw a move toward more individualised and self-initiated learning, increased independence in students and an extension of learning beyond the classroom.
The best “tool” for good teaching and learning…is… a good teacher!
We need to help educators integrate technology into teaching and
learning to move teachers from substitution, to a redefinition, where
“technology allows for the creation of new tasks, previously
inconceivable”.

Rationale• 1:1 allows for communication and collaboration between
students, their peers and their teachers
• Allows for personalised learning - differentiation between students’ learning styles and capabilities and for students to take their learning in their own direction
• Takes advantage of the anywhere, anytime approach to 21st century learning - Bridges the gap between home and school
• Allows for a movement from content driven apps in a shared model to creation apps in a 1:1 model which meets more of the needs of the Australian Digital Technologies Curriculum and ICT General Capability - Embedded in the curriculum not a stand alone subject

● The school will purchase apps using the Apple Volume Purchase Program and deploy the apps using the ZuluDesk Management system

(if 3G model is used, SIM card will need to be removed prior to the device coming to school)

● Management system that allows us to send apps out to students
● Place blocks on certain apps - allows us to focus on education rather than worrying about what students are doing
● Parental/school control - We need your help! Together we can work together to create a safe online learning environment for students at home and at school

• A claim will need to be made through the home insurance policy
• If on school grounds it will be made through the school insurance - this year there were 3 incidents (1 at school, 2 at home)
Screen Time“My concern is the amount of time students will be spending in front of the screen - how will this be monitored?”
● Research released in 2001 - has been found to be unachievable. Released before smartphones/tablets
● Most research based on children just sitting in front of TV.
● It's about interacting with the tech - getting creative with it
● There may be days when it’s not required - may also be days where it’s used quite often
● Balance between iPads and writing skills - we still have a focus on writing

my child?

• What if my family already has an iPad?
• it may be used as long as it meets minimum requirements
