WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4!

Punctuality and Attendance

The school would appreciate if families could focus on these two areas over this term. We have a number of children who regularly arrive late to school. Apart from missing the ‘getting ready’ part of the day, it can cause a state of anxiety that may have an effect on the rest of the school day. Our attendance rate in Term 3 was well below our expected target. This term is very important as teachers will be doing a lot of assessment for the end of year reports and activities to help children transition into their next year.

Communication

Some students didn’t start school on Monday because families assumed it was a School Development Day. The correct information could have been found in our newsletter, our skoolbag app, or our Facebook website. It’s important that families access the school’s communication on a weekly basis. If you are having difficulty accessing any information, please talk to our wonderful office staff who will be able to assist you.

Onesie Day!

This Friday we will be trying to break our record of 219 children and staff wearing onesies to school. Given that it may get quite hot, children are encouraged to bring a change of clothes for later in the day. For those students without a onesie, it is still a free dress day. Please remember to bring your gold coin donation.

Colour Fun Run—Correction!

Please note that a $10 donation is required for a parent to participate in the Colour Fun Run with their child. My apologies.

Bees!

As you are probably aware, there is a lot of bee activity in Banksia Grove at the moment. This is going to increase at the school as our trees come into blossom. This is a good time to make sure that you have advised the school of any allergies that your child has (particularly to bee stings). The information below is published by Melbourne’s Royal Children Hospital.

Generalised Reactions—”Children have a different pattern of insect sting allergy than adults. Bee sting allergy is more common in children. However, severe reactions are less common than in adults. Bee sting reactions which are mild, generalised reactions affecting only the skin occur in about 60% of bee sting allergic children. Children with mild generalised reactions rarely get worse and do not need a course of injections with the aim of reducing the reactions (bee venom immunotherapy). Generalised reactions can become progressively more severe with each sting but this is the exception rather than the rule and occurs in less than 1% of patients.”

NATURE GARDEN

Our new nature based garden is finished and during the school holidays we

added some flowers and plants. Logan Johansson was a key player in

organising our planting morning. Logan has been saving his hard earned

money by doing odd jobs around the house for his Mum and has been

collecting for quite some time to be able to buy the flowers and plants for the

garden. He is shown here watering in the new plants. Well done Logan for
