EDITING THEME STYLES IN PRESENTATION STUDIO
One of the more flexible features of Presentation Studio is the ability to edit theme colors to coordinate with your color palette. There are many theme styles you can edit or customize, ranging from asset category colors in charts and graphs to font colors. This document shows you best practices for editing theme styles and also provides an appendix of all the available styles that can be edited.
WHAT ARE THEME STYLES?
Theme styles are the parts of the theme you can edit on a page; from the text on the page to the category colors. There are four basic types of theme styles.
Page and Background Colors
Text Colors
Border and Line Colors
Graph and Category Colors
In addition to colors you can edit, there are some non-editable colors used when displaying data sorted by security type. Be sure to consider these colors as you are setting up your theme and assigning color numbers to indexes, benchmark collections and categories. See the Security Type Color Assignments Mapping section in the appendix on page 8 for a complete list of the hard-coded color assignments for security types.
EDITING AN EXISTING THEME COLOR PALETTE
There are many reasons why you might want to edit the color palette for an existing theme – maybe you like the font selection for the Clean Theme, but would prefer to have different colors for the categories. Rather than go into each category one by one and assign a static color, you can change the color number for the theme.
This section shows you the parts of the theme you can edit and how to change the colors.

COPYING THEMES
Each change you make to theme styles can only be restored to the original color by restoring the defaults for that theme style or for the entire theme. For that reason, we strongly recommend that you can make a copy of an existing theme before editing it so you can preserve the original before editing the colors associated with it. Follow the steps below to make a copy of an existing theme. These steps assume you already have Presentation Studio open.
1 In the Element Library, located on the navigation pane, click the Themes bar to expand the list of themes.
2 Right-click on the theme you want to copy and select Make a Copy… from the menu, as shown in the example on the right.
3 The Make a Copy dialog opens. Enter a name for the new theme in the Name field.
The best practice is to name the copy of a theme to include the name of the theme you are copying from so you can reference the original another time.
In this example, we are creating a copy of the Clean theme, so we have named the new theme Clean-New Palette.
4 Click the Save button to save the copy of the theme.
The new theme will now appear at the bottom of the list of themes in the Element Library.

EDITING AN EXISTING THEME COLOR PALETTE
There are many reasons why you might want to edit the color palette for an existing theme, but the most common reason will be to either add to or modify the colors for the Color Palette Entries. These styles control the colors for the pie pieces on the allocation graphs as well as the colors of the bars for the category sorting on Holdings Reports. Other common colors to edit are the:
“other” category for allocation charts that are not large enough to show all categories
area and line graphs on the Portfolio Value vs. Cumulative Net Investment graph
portfolio and target returns that appear on the Performance vs. Benchmarks graph
This section shows you the parts of the theme you can edit and how to change the colors.
Note
You can only assign solid colors to items in the themes. Thus, if you are editing a color that begins as a gradient, such as is the case in the Ocean themes, you can only replace it with a solid and you cannot undo the change once you have changed it.
The Name and Description of the style cannot be edited or changed.
1 From the Element Library, located on the bottom left of the Navigator pane, click the bar labeled Themes to see a list of the available themes.
2 Double-click the theme you want to edit to open it in the Preview Pane. Remember, it is best to edit a copy of a theme. If you have not already done so, make a copy of the theme you want to edit. See the Copying Themes section on page 2 for steps to create a copy of a theme.
3 In the Preview Pane, the Styles menu appears, similar to the example below. Select the style you want to edit from the list. For a list of theme styles and their descriptions, see the appendix starting on page 6.

4 Select the color you want to assign to the theme style. There are three ways to select the color:
1. ENTER THE HEX CODE:
If you have a hex code from your graphic designer, enter it into the Hex Code field below the color selector, similar to the example to the right.
As you enter the code, you will see that the color square displays the color represented by the Hex Code you entered.
2. ENTER THE RGBA CODE:
The RBG code indicates the amount of red, blue and green present in a particular color, and the A stands for the opacity or transparency of the color. When the Alpha code is set to 0 the color is transparent on the reports, and when the code is set to 100 the color is fully visible on the reports.
If you have a RGBA code from your graphic designer, enter it into the R, G, B and A fields to the right of the color selector. As you enter the code, you will see that the color square displays the color represented by the RGBA code you entered.
Online
If you are unsure what a hex code is or need more information about RGB and Hex Code values in PortfolioCenter and Presentation Studio, see Working with Custom Colors in Presentation Studio.

3. SELECT A COLOR FROM THE COLOR PICKER:
The other option you have for selecting a color for the selected style is to use the color picker. Use the guidelines below to select a color using the color picker tool:
Using the sliding bar on the right of the window, select the base color or hue. As you move the slider up and down, you should see the colors in the large square change.
After finding the overall color you want, use your mouse to point to different areas inside the large square to select the vibrancy (saturation) and the brightness (luminosity) you want.
As you move the mouse around in the area, the color changes for the style you have selected and the Hex Code changes to indicate the Hex Code for the color you have selected, similar to the example above for Color Palette Entry 22.
5 Once you have selected all the colors for styles you want to change, click the Save button and assign the theme to the appropriate presentation to test the colors.

SECURITY TYPE COLOR ASSIGNMENTS MAPPING
For some presentation pages, you have the option to display positions by security type. However, unlike asset class, sector and subsector codes, you do not have the ability to assign colors to security types. The colors for security types are hard coded in the program. In the chart below, the number to the right of the security type indicates the color palette entry number assigned to each security type:
Equity – 1 User Defined – 4 Unit Trust -– 7 Commercial Paper – 10
Fixed Income – 2 CDs – 5 Options – 8 Cash – 11
Mutual Funds – 3 Mortgage-backed – 6 T-Bills – 9 SMA – 12
