ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill started the show off with their song “La Grange” before Bryan, FGL mem-bers Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, and Derulo popped up through the stage floor. Bryan and FGL sang “This Is How We Roll” before Derulo kicked in with his hit “Talk Dirty.” Gibbons said he was origi-nally headed to London on Wednesday, but show producers pitched the idea and the blues rockers couldn’t resist.

“It’s a little mixup, mashup, a little bit of this, a little bit of that,” Gibbons said on the red carpet before the show. “It’s kind of exciting. I don’t think it’s been done quite like this.” The performance could be the first of many spins for a

new remixed version of “This Is How We Roll,” featuring Derulo. Florida Georgia Line had a huge crossover hit last year with “Cruise,” featuring Nelly, and there’s hope this song will cross over as well.

“Fingers crossed. You don’t want to jinx it,” Kelley said. “What we can say is he did an amazing job and there’s not one thing we would change. And that’s what it felt like with Cruise when Nelly touched it.”

Bryan and FGL also helped host Kristen Bell kick off the show by re-creating Jay Z and Solange Knowles’ elevator escapade, complete with grainy black-and-white footage. The Band Perry

won the night’s first award, group of the year, for “Done” and Cassadee Pop took breakthrough video for “Wasting All These Tears” shortly after a star-packed red carpet shut down. Derulo and Legend walked the carpet, as did the night’s oddest couple, singer Tyler Farr and good buddy Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls.

Jason Aldean showed up with new girlfriend Brittany Kerr. The former “American Idol” contestant and Char-lotte Bobcats cheerleader was making her first public appearance with Aldean since the singer filed for divorce a year ago.

The ZZ Top-Bryan-FGL-Derulo mega-performance won’t be the end of the interesting mashups. Church invited tourmate Hale to underscore his rocking inclinations on “That’s Damn Rock & Roll.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country, rock ‘n’ roll and R&B colorfully collided as surprise guests ZZ Top joined Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line and Jason Derulo to open the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday. The superstar mashup was just the first of many scheduled during the 2½-hour awards show at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Hunter Hayes are scheduled to team up later in the show and Eric Church will be joined by hard rocker Lzzy Hale.

NEW YORK — Josh Trank will direct one of the planned stand-alone “Star Wars” films.

Lucasfilm announced Wednesday that the 30-year-old filmmaker will helm one of the two announced “Star Wars” spinoffs being made outside of the third trilogy. An earlier announced spinoff is to be led by “Godzilla” di-rector Gareth Edwards.

Trank is the director of 2012’s found footage-style science fiction thriller “Chronicle.” He currently is working on “The Fantastic Four,” the superhero team-up reboot scheduled for release next year.

Lucasfilm gave no details on the subject of the “Star Wars” movie. J.J. Abrams is in production on “Star Wars: Episode VII,” which will follow “The Return of the Jedi” in chronol-ogy.

Abrams on Tuesday tweeted a photo with a note pleading for people not to leak photos from the set of “Episode VII.” In recent days, dozens of photos from the set of the film have appeared online.

But his message was also tongue-in-cheek. Though Abrams alluded to

Josh Trank to direct stand-alone ‘Star Wars’ film

“ridiculous claims that the Millen-nium Falcon is in the movie,” his note was wryly played on the space-

ship’s familiar “Holochess” board. “Star Wars” fans quickly picked up on the pun.

Tourism area of Nusa Penida grows naturally. A variety of potentials in this region come out as such and become a high tourist attraction in Bali. Every day, thousands of foreign and domestic travelers make a visit. Such condition drives a large number of investors to beautify the area by developing tourism facilities. EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

TANJUNG BENOA - Exclu-sive beach hotel in Bali is built in a subtle blend of Balinese’s and modern architecture and offers a marvelous ambiance for a truly wonderful and relax-ing beach vacation. A beautiful setting among Frangipani and Bougainville with the most breath taking views of the warm and wonderful Indian Ocean. The hotel is located directly and very centrally on the world famous Nusa Dua beach on the south coast of Bali Island, Indonesia.

Chairman of Commission B of the Jembrana House, Nyo-man Sutengsu Kusumayasa, explained on Wednesday (Jun 4) about the need for final waste disposal with sanitary landfill system where so far the House had never received the report of its location. In the work meeting with the Regional De-velopment Planning Board (Bappeda), this legislator from Pekutatan urged to realize the landfill immediately. “Has the landfill with sanitary system been determined? It should be done immediately,” said the man who was familiarly called Suheng. According to him, many locations in Jembrana could be used for landfill with the system and must be done as soon as possible.

As had been known, the only one landfill at Peh had been overloaded and unfortunately it did not apply sanitary landfill system (filled with earth). As a result, the waste continued to pile up to form hills. Even, the height of rubbish at Peh landfill reached 10 meters. The operator of excavator could only shift the newly arrived rubbish to avoid overflow.

Previously, the Head of Jembrana Environment, Sanitation and Landscape Agency (LHKP), I Wayan Darwin, said that to address the overloaded rubbish in the landfill the county government had started designing temporary landfill in each subdistrict with sanitary landfill method. According to him, the one having been worked on at this time was at Sumbersari, Melaya.

He admitted the Peh landfill had already been overloaded. The rubbish had been mounting. Such open landfill could re-sult in the emergence of flies, rodents and odors. According to him, the officials remained to maintain the location around the landfill so as not to be contaminated by spraying fly repellent. This year, the agency planned to add rubbish containers to be placed at a number of locations. (kmb26)

Bali PostNEGARA - A number of resi-

dents at Yehembang Kangin and Yehsumbul village, Mendoyo, complained about piggeries dis-posing farm waste into the Yeh-sumbul River. At the moment, residents at both villages are still using the water for bathing and washing. As a result, the swine waste pollutes the river.

A number of residents who met on Wednesday (Jun 4) admitted to feel deeply disgusted when finding the river water exuding a striking stench. Allegedly, it was kindled by the piggery in the rice field area.

According to them, the farm had long been dumping waste into the river, through the subak irrigation channel flowing into the river.

The piggery, according to one of the residents, raised hundreds of pigs. Every time cleaning the cage, the river water looked turbid allegedly becoming the impact of pig manure. The waste passed through the neighborhood before flowing into the river so it resulted in stench problem. “When the piggery cleanses the cage, a part of the river water will be murky

and exudes stench, especially in the Western side,” said one of the residents. According to him, in the vicinity of the piggery sat two other piggeries and the waste were also disposed into the river.

On the other hand, the Head of Jembrana Environment, Sanitation and Landscape Agency (LHKP), Wayan Darwin, told reporters last Wednesday that he had received

complaints from residents about the piggery disposing waste into the river. The agency had also checked to location. In fact, the piggery had not owned a permit. The waste was carelessly disposed because it had not owned a Waste-water Treatment Plant (WWTP). His party said to have asked the piggery owner in order to complete the permit and WWTP. (kmb26)

Waste overloaded, Jembrana urgently needs landfill Bali Post

NEGARA - The only landfill existing at Peh, Kaliakah has now been overloaded. Meanwhile, the volume of waste continues to grow every day. If this trend continues, it is likely to result in a chronic problem. It happens because there has been no other location to be used as landfill.

1. TROT OUT RETREADS: Even first ladies recycle their clothes. Michelle Obama recently welcomed military moms to a Mother’s Day tea wearing the same shirtdress she had worn to lunch with Katy Perry in 2012. Lady Bird Johnson put her 1965 inaugural gala gown, a white peau de soie dress with a beaded bodice, back in the rotation three times over the next two years.

2. BUY OFF THE RACK: Laura Bush experienced the “ultimate in clothing faux pas” when she selected an $8,500 red lace Oscar de la Renta gown to wear to the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006 without modifying the design. “In the book, that red dress had looked perfect. It vaguely crossed my mind that someone else might see the dress and think exactly the same thing,” Mrs. Bush wrote in her memoir, “but what were the odds of that woman wearing it to a White House party?” Pretty good, it turns out. Three other women turned up in the identical gown. They made the best of it by posing for a group photo at a White House reception. Then Mrs. Bush ran upstairs and changed into a navy blue dress from the back of her closet before heading to the Kennedy Center.

RIO DE JANEIRO — The fanatic pas-sion Delneri Viana holds for his beloved Botafogo soccer club really gets under his skin — 83 times and counting.

The 69-year-old Viana, retired from the military, spends his days as a full-time fan of his favorite team. Once a week, he heads to his local tattoo parlor to get fresh ink.

“I feel no pain,” he said on a recent after-noon while sitting on the tattoo table.

Not even when he tattooed the tender skin above his belly button with a version of Rio’s famed Christ the Redeemer statue wearing a Botafogo jersey? Or when letters spelling out a nickname for the club were inked onto the bony fingers of his left hand?

No. Viana insists there’s only one reason to feel pain: “When my team loses, espe-cially when I’m there inside Maracana,” he said, referring to the stadium that will host

the World Cup’s final match and is Brazil’s shrine to the sport.

“Worse still is when Flamengo wins,” Viana says of Botafogo’s archrival.

Tattoos are widely popular in Brazil, where the beach culture and tropical climate make it an ideal place to show off body art. Everybody under age 30 seems to have something etched into their bodies.

Viana can’t really say what drives him to get the tattoos or even why he loves Bota-fogo: “I just came this way.”

Aside from his tattoos, he sports finger and toe nails painted in his team’s black and white colors. In fact, he never wears anything without the club’s emblem.

When his phone rings while he’s lying atop the tattoo table, it loudly emits — what else? — Botafogo’s anthem.

Viana says that, eventually, he’ll stop getting tattoos. “I’ll run out of space,” he says with a shrug.

This two-picture combo of a handout photo released by the White House, taken Dec. 3, 2006 at the White House in Washington, left, and a Dec. 3, 2006 file photo taken at the Kennedy Center in Washington, shows first lady Barbara Bush.

Do’s and don’ts in first ladies’ frugal fashionAssociated Press

WASHINGTON — Sure, living in the White House has its perks. But a clothing allowance is not one of them. First ladies feel all sorts of pressure to project a fashionable look, and over the decades they have tried a range of cash-saving strategies to pull it off without going broke. Seven frugal do’s and don’ts that first ladies have tried over the years:

ty Ford wasn’t afraid to economize. She shared clothes with her teenage daughter and used scarves to make the same outfit look different. When she read about low-cost designer Albert Capraro, whose dresses retailed for as little as $70, she asked the New Yorker to bring her some sketches. She ordered spring dresses from him and asked him to make some evening gowns using fabric that President Gerald Ford had brought back from Japan.

4. FIND A BENEFACTOR: When Jacqueline Kennedy caught criticism for wearing pricey French fashions, her father-in-law stepped in to defuse the issue. Joseph Ken-nedy offered to pay her wardrobe bills, if she used Oleg Cassini, a family friend, as her personal coutu-rier. “Jacqueline Kennedy accepted this offer, a move that was greeted with some astonishment by Seventh Avenue, where Cassini was not regarded as a designer of the first rank and something of a vulgarian as well,” author Amanda Mackenzie Stuart wrote in a biography of Diana Vreeland.

5. BORROW STUFF: Nancy Reagan raised eyebrows by bor-rowing high-priced designer gowns and jewelry as first lady, sometimes

without returning them or reporting them on her husband’s annual dis-closure forms. When it came out that Mrs. Reagan had kept up the practice even after she had pledged to stop, her spokeswoman, Elaine Crispen, ac-knowledged that Mrs. Reagan “broke her little promise.” Mrs. Reagan said later: “I was just trying to help an in-dustry that I could help and I was in the position to help. I didn’t see anything wrong with that.”

6. RAISE SOME CASH: Mary Todd Lincoln ran up $27,000 in bills for clothes and household items with-out her husband’s knowledge, roughly equivalent to $700,000 in modern times, and then badgered Republican politicians to pay up to “help me out of my embarrassment.” Some offered money or loans, but Mrs. Lincoln still came up short, according to historian Carl Anthony at the National First Ladies’ Library. “At one point, she

even considered selling the manure on the White House lawn as fertilizer to pay the bills,” Anthony wrote in his history of first ladies.

7. TRY CREATIVE WRITING: Theodore Roosevelt’s wife, Edith, would wear the same dress to multiple events, Anthony says, but vary the descriptions in her press releases. In the days before video and 24/7 media coverage, that made it seem as if she had more clothes than she did.

“In the future, this MICE sector can be developed throughout the region of Bali because the whole areas in Bali have the potential for the development of this sector,” said Chairman of the INCCA Bali, IB Surakusuma, when contacted on Tuesday (Jun 3).

According to him, the rapid development of MICE sector in Southern Bali was inseparable from the availability of supporting facili-ties and infrastructure for this indus-trial sector. All this time, the MICE activities were still concentrated on Southern Bali such as Nusa Dua, Kuta, Denpasar and Gianyar.

“Other than the potential owned by the regions outside the Southern Bali to develop the MICE business sector, all the tourism regions in Bali can have been accessed eas-ily,” he said.

Bali PostDENPASAR - Various facilities are

provided by Denpasar Municipality through the Transportation Agency of Denpasar for general public to facilitate pedestrian when crossing. In addition to providing zebra cross, the Denpasar Transportation Agency is also setting pelican crossing light. This kind of light has been installed in front of the Rama-yana Mall on Jalan Diponegoro.

The Traffic Division Head of the Den-pasar Transportation Agency, Sustiawan, said the installation of pelican crossing light was one of the transportation in-frastructures so that people could utilize the facility properly. Ultimately, it would result in the comfort and conductivity in traffic.

Furthermore, Sustiawan said the pelican crossing was an early warning system for traffic flow in order to allow pedestrians to cross road. Installation of the pelican crossing aimed at giv-ing priority to pedestrians that would cross highway. Besides, the existence of pelican crossing also provided safety and comfort for road users.

“This pelican crossing is a quite effec-tive road crossing system, where pedes-trian is enough to press pelican button, and then wait until all the vehicles stop.

Thus, pedestrian can cross safely,” said Sustiawan.

The existence of pelican crossing was expected to also be maintained by the community so that it could continue to function for pedestrian comfort. In the use and dissemination of the pelican crossing light, his party would assign an officer at location of the light. Besides, the pelican crossing light also helped the disabled people in crossing the street so they felt safer.

Sustiawan further added that the installation of the pelican crossing light would continue to be done, especially in the areas whose traffic flow was crowded. “We expect motorists to be more care-ful when there are people crossing,” he hoped.

One of the pedestrians who utilized the pelican crossing light was Adi Putra. He admitted if he was deeply helped by the light. Nevertheless, there were still motorists who did not want to stop when the green light for pedestrian to cross had lit. “Hopefully, the road users can notice the traffic sign when the red light was on, while the light of pedestrian is showing green light,” said Adi. This would give more comfort to pedestrians if the exist-ing rules were obeyed by all parties, especially motorists. (kmb12)

INCCA will lead MICE events to beyond Southern Bali

Bali Post

DENPASAR - The Indonesia Congress and Convention As-sociation (INCCA) of Bali will attempt to lead MICE activities to beyond Southern Bali. All this time, the Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) events were majorly held in that tourism area. Actually, some tourism areas on the island also have the potential to host MICE.

Nevertheless, IB Surakusuma revealed the development of MICE sector throughout Bali remained to be hampered by a few things. One of them was that not all the venues had supporting facilities of MICE, especially MICE exhibition hall or meeting hall having the same standards as set by the MICE or-ganizers, mainly for international events.

“On that account, we expect the cooperation of government to develop this sector, so that in the fu-ture this sector can become a source of local revenue,” he concluded.

The potential of MICE sector to be developed beyond the Southern Bali region was also recognized by IB Wisnu Diwangkara, one of the MICE business operators. Ac-cording to Wisnu, the development of MICE sector had grown up to

50 percent since the beginning of 2013. Aside from the Southern Bali region, some regions outside it, mentioned Wisnu, had also been noticed by foreign travelers to organize a variety of meetings and

convention activities. As had been known, foreign

tourist arrival to Bali during April 2014 reached 280,096 people. This figure increased 15.57 percent com-pared to the same period in the pre-

vious year and an increase of 1.27 percent compared to March 2014. Meanwhile, based on nationality, they mostly came from Australia, China, Malaysia, Japan and Singa-pore. (kmb27)

In faraway Moscow, Putin seemed to shrug off the snub of having not been invited to Brussels, but declared he was still open to “dialogue.” In March, the U.S. and its most important allies retaliated for Putin’s military oc-cupation and subsequent annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula by suspending Russia’s membership in what had been the G-8 club of rich countries. They also nixed Putin’s plan to hold the meeting in Sochi, the city Russia lavished billions on to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Around the dinner table in Brus-sels, “there were seven of us, not eight,” Hollande said afterward. But the leaders “were speaking in one voice” and reached the same conclusions. “And everyone must hear them, and especially the one who wasn’t here,” he said, referring to Putin.

In a joint statement, the leaders of the U.S., Canada, Japan, Britain, France, Germany and Italy urged Russia to recognize the results of Ukraine’s recent presidential election, complete the withdrawal of its troops on the border with Ukraine and stop the flow of weapons and militants.

“We stand ready to intensify tar-geted sanctions and to implement sig-

nificant additional restrictive measures to impose further costs on Russia, should events so require,” the leaders warned.

But the tough language couldn’t hide the fact that many U.S. allies, especially the Europeans, have shifted their focus toward re-engaging with Putin since Russia has refrained from a full-blown invasion of Ukraine and started pulling back its troops.

Hollande, British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancel-lor Angela Merkel are all planning to hold talks with the Russian president in France during ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion this week.

Obama, however, has no plans to meet with Putin — a clear indica-tion the U.S. is more reluctant than its European peers about renewing the dialogue. Speaking in Poland on Tuesday, Obama announced new military measures meant to reassure NATO allies in Eastern Europe wor-ried about Russia.

Putin, in turn, lambasted Ameri-can foreign policy as aggressive and militaristic but told French television network TF1 and radio Europe-1 he would still agree to meet Obama. “I’m always ready for dialogue,” he said.

WASHINGTON — The tea party wing of the Republican Party has a chance to regain some of its luster when a challenger from the conservative, anti-tax faction faces a veteran Republican incumbent in a U.S. Senate primary runoff in Missis-sippi. Unofficial results showed tea party challenger Chris McDaniel with a slight lead Wednesday over six-term incumbent Thad Cochran in the three-way race. Most precincts have reported and an unknown number of mail-in and provisional ballots have yet to be counted.

Neither McDaniel nor Cochran received a majority of the vote, which would have been needed to avoid the runoff scheduled in three weeks. If McDaniel wins, it would provide a boost to the tea party. However, it’s not likely to affect the battle for control of the Senate. The winner of the Democratic

nomination, former Rep. Travis Childers, is unlikely to defeat either McDaniel or Cochran in this staunchly conservative state that last elected a Democratic senator in 1982.

The anti-tax, small-government tea party rose to prominence after the 2008 election of President Barack Obama, and the move-ment helped the Republicans capture the House two years later.

But after the Republicans failed to take back the Senate in 2012, some of the tea party faction’s luster has faded. Tea party-backed challengers this year failed to topple high-pro-file Republicans in Senate primaries in Texas, Georgia, North Carolina and Kentucky.

Establishment-backed Republican candi-dates prevailed in other key primary races around the country Tuesday, as the party lead-ership continued its mostly successful effort to put mainstream candidates on the ballot in the November general elections.

BRUSSELS — Russian President Vladimir Putin was kept out of Wednesday’s summit of world leaders but dominated the meeting as President Barack Obama and his counterparts from the G-7 group of major economies sought the Kremlin chief’s renewed cooperation to end the Ukraine crisis. French President Francois Hollande said the meeting sent a clear signal of unity by urging Russia to help stabilize the situation in Ukraine, while keeping the threat of further sanctions on the table.

rity guard of the villa, I Made Padayasa, said that within the past few days, the victim often sneaked into the villa area to get a Wi-Fi signal to surf. The victim also looked like in depression as having no friends or relatives. In day-to-day life, the victim was only accompanied by his local pet dog.

Security guard of the villa even had reprimanded him for several times not to enter the villa. Neverthe-less, the victim often stayed and slept in the gazebo. But when expelled, he even enraged. The vessel transported 13 trucks and ran aground for six hours. No damages were reported on the vessel. It continued to sail and dock directly at Gilimanuk after high tide. The vessel could have anchored on Wednesday morning (Jun 4) at 06:00 a.m. The entire crews and truck drivers survived.

Based on information, the ves-sel ran aground after hit by strong rapids while trying to moor at Gilimanuk. It departed from Keta-pang around 10:23 p.m. During the voyage to Gilimanuk, it did not have any problems. However, before entering the waters of Gilimanuk, it was swept away by rapids to shallow waters and got moored at the reef.

Chief of Gilimanuk Marine

Police, Nyoman Wirya Sucipta, confirmed the incident. The ves-sel managed to dock and moor at Gilimanuk Harbor after high tide around 06:00 a.m. “This morning, the vessel moored and unloaded its vehicles. Now, it has operated as usual,” he explained. The ves-sel was deliberately waiting for high tide because it got moored on the reef.

Meanwhile, Operations Man-ager of the ASDP Gilimanuk, Wahyudi Susianto, said the vessel directly operated because it suf-fered no damages. Besides, the vessel could also directly moor after running aground and waiting for high tide. The ASDP author-ity, he added, did not provide any services for passengers because it was a freight vessel. (kmb)

BEIJING — The International Monetary Fund urged China on Thursday to make a priority of containing financial risks that stem for its rising debt.

Beijing should avoid launching more economic stimulus unless growth drops well below this year’s official target of 7.5 percent, said the IMF’s first deputy managing director, David Lipton, after meeting Chinese officials.

Rising debts owed by local governments and uncertainty about largely unregulated informal lending have fueled concerns China’s economic slowdown might cause a rise in defaults and hurt its financial system.

Chinese authorities have begun tightening controls. Lipton said Beijing still has room to prevent an abrupt slowdown in economic growth but risks are rising and regulators need to do more.

“We consider that vulnerabilities have risen to the point where containing them should be a priority,” he said at a news conference.

Beijing is trying to steer the world’s second-largest economy to growth based on domestic consumption instead of imports and investment following a decade of breakneck expansion.

Economic growth slowed to 7.4 percent in the three months ending in March, down from the previous quarter’s

7.7 percent.Chinese leaders have ruled out further large-scale stimulus

but have launched a series of targeted measures in response to weak export growth and a decline in housing prices. A big portion of local government debt stems from borrowing for the multibillion-dollar stimulus that helped China rebound quickly from the 2008 global crisis.

A further growth deceleration to about 7 percent next year “would be consistent with the goal of transitioning to a sustainable growth pattern,” Lipton said.

“We welcome the efforts that have been made,” said Lipton. “Nonetheless, continuing reliance on credit-fueled growth means that risks are still rising.”

Analysts say the bank might take its stimulus efforts farther and announce unconventional steps to get credit mov-ing to struggling businesses.

Excessively low inflation, if it per-sists, could become a serious economic threat. It could cause businesses and in-dividuals to delay spending indefinitely as they await ever-lower prices. It could also make it harder for companies and countries to pare their heavy debt loads left over from the eurozone’s financial crisis.

The ECB maintains a target inflation rate for the eurozone of just below 2 percent. Fears have arisen that the con-tinent’s excessively low inflation could slip into deflation — an outright fall in prices. Deflation can stall an economy, as it did in Japan for much of the past two decades.

It’s a trap that’s hard to escape, which helps explain why Mario Draghi, the ECB’s president, has strongly hinted that the central bank will take unusual action this week.

Waning energy prices and a strong euro, which has reduced prices of im-ports, have been blamed for much of the fall in inflation. In countries such as Greece, whose government has held back government spending and state salaries in return for bailout loans from other countries, falling prices have been a consequence of official policies.

DENPASAR - Requirements of drugs are very strict and quite a few. One of the requirements to be met is the drug solubility. If this requirement cannot be met, then the effects of drugs consumed will be disrupted. Though it is not harmful, if there are drugs with unqualified solubility in circulation they will be certainly withdrawn from market.

It was presented by the Head of Food and Drug Control Agency (BBPOM) Denpasar, Endang Widowati, when contacted on Wednesday (Jun 4). “Some types of drugs are currently withdrawn from market as they do not qualify the solubility requirements,” said Endang. Nevertheless, Endang did not explain about the amount and brand of those drugs because in essence the solubility did not cause harmful effects.

Nevertheless, the unqualified solubility, added Endang, would have great influence during the drug absorption in the body. For instance, she said, a drug should be taken 3 times a day. Dose of the drug was usually administered in accordance with the drug

solubility. Otherwise, the dose administered would be inappropriate. “Suppose the drug should be taken for three times a day. By and large, if drinking at seven in the morning, it will dissolve at nine o’clock or two hours later in the body. However, if the drug solu-bility is not qualified, its dissolution may take longer,” said Endang. Consequently, it would have an impact on the benefits of the drug, namely in the matter of healing process.

To cope with the trafficking of drug with unqualified solubility, added Endang, her party had asked the cooperation of drug manufacturers to stop the production and withdraw the unqualified drugs. “We also do withdrawal of the drugs from pharmacy,” he said. However, the manufacturers could sell the same product when theirs had quali-fied the test made by the Food and Drug Control Agency.

“If the manufacturers want to launch their product, of course theirs must be tested first by the Food and Drug Control Agency. If it has qualified, the drug will get another permit to be circulated to the public,” said Endang. (kmb24)

It was stated by Ida Wayan Ngurah from Griya Djelantik Budakeling, Karangasem, in Blahbatuh Palace, Gianyar amidst the preparations of Legong Mebarung performance in the innermost courtyard of Blahbatuh Pal-ace, Gianyar, next Saturday (Jun 7).

The existence of classical Le-gong Dance today is increasingly marginalized, even some have faced extinction. As the next generation, the desire to preserve the legacy of clas-sical art surely posed an obligation. By change, the Blahbatuh Palace was willing to facilitate the performances of classical Legong Dance denoting a reconstruction of the art having been extinct at Budakeling, he said.

The classical Legong Dance from Dharani Art Ashram of Griya Djelan-tik, Budakeling would be staged together with the Legong Dance of Sabha Palace, Blahbatuh Palace. Both classical Legong Dances had their own hallmark in which would be reconstructed in the next perfor-mance, added the committee, Ida Made Shanti Utama.

One of the figures of the Blah-

batuh Palace, Anak Agung Ngurah Kakarsana, said the staging of the two typical classical Legong Dances was an effort to preserve the art and culture having been almost extinct today. The idea of the performance emerged when a small discussion was held in Griya Budakeling related to the presence of the art potential such as the classical Legong Dance in the area. Similarly, Blahbatuh Palace, chiefly Sabha Palace, had once owned a classical Legong Dance equally facing the same conditions. So, there was an idea to perform a Legong Mebarung dance. “This staging is made free of charge for the figures of art lover, academician and observer to wider community,” he said.

In the Legong Mebarung, the Sabha Palace would perform two Legong Dances, the Raja Cina and Legong Kraton Semara Dhana, denoting the result of reconstruc-tion made by Gusti Ngurah Srama Semadi. Meanwhile, the Dharani Art Ashrama of Budakeling would pres-ent Legong Kraton Sukma Swabawa and Jauk Manis. (kmb16)

Tumiran noted that in spite of domestic gas shortage, gas exports continued, which was a clear indica-tion of poor energy management.

“This incorrect energy manage-ment must be improved, and we hope that the new government from the July 9 presidential election will do so,” Tumiran emphasized on Thursday.

Tumiran added that having less than 40 gigawatts of electricity for more than 240 million population, Indonesia will not be able to compete against Singapore or Malaysia, and the downstream industry will not develop optimally.

“Imagine how Sumatra can com-

pete against Malaysia if its electric-ity supply is only five gigawatts,” Tumiran remarked, adding that unlike Japan and South Korea, which import fuel to increase the added value of their products, Indonesia even im-ports energy for consumption.

Therefore, he expressed hope that the next government will no longer export coal and gas and use it for producing electricity as the domestic energy demand remains high.

Tumiran pointed out that Indo-nesia has an abundant diversity of natural resources but is yet to manage them properly to enhance the nation’s energy security.

According to Finance Minister

Chatib Basri, the government may save Rp15 trillion in energy subsidy this year by controlling the quota of subsidized fuels and raising the tariff of electrical power.

Nearly Rp7 trillion will be saved from spending on fuel subsidy and Rp8 trillion from spending on elec-tricity subsidy, the minister noted in a meeting with the budgetary board of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Tuesday.

Chatib said the move will ease the burden on energy subsidy, which is expected to soar Rp110 trillion to Rp392.1 trillion in the revised 2014 state budget from Rp282.1 trillion in the 2014 state budget.

AntaraCIREBON - The export of Indonesian natural stone to Malaysia

has increased 100 percent from two to four containers. The Malaysian market is interested in the white natural stone from the Bobos Sub-district. Meanwhile, the European and Japanese markets prefer the minimalist design of the stone from Kuningan City.

Dianto, a natural stone craftsman, noted here on Thursday that the commodity export from Cirebon and Majalengka districts in the West Java Province to several countries, such as Japan, South Korea, and Europe is increasing.

“The Japanese mostly prefer the natural design of stone from Kuningan City in West Java,” Dianto stated.

Another craftsman, Parjo said his creative business is targeting to increase its exports to Japan.

The demand for natural stones from several countries is consider-able, Parjo claimed, adding that the craftsmen are keen to increase their exports to Japan due to the high prices.

“The Japanese market is dominated by the white minimalist designed stone, though the market also prefers yellow stone,” he pointed out.

The increasing demand of natural stones in Cirebon and Maja-lengka has generated jobs for the local manpower.

JAKARTA - The front-runner to become Indonesia’s new president, Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, has told investors that he will pursue market-friendly policies and make bureau-cratic reform and infrastructure-building his priorities.

Jokowi presented a pro-reform platform for Southeast Asia’s largest economy as investment cools and the country faces hefty budget and current account deficits.

“Investors should be given enough room to broaden their investments,” Jokowi told a crowd of domestic and foreign investors at an event late on Wednesday in Jakarta’s business district.

The event, held on the day the presidential campaign officially began, was the first time Jokowi pre-sented his economic programme in public. He spoke with fund managers at a closed door meeting last month.

On July 9, Indonesians will choose

either Jokowi, the Jakarta governor, or ex-general Prabowo Subianto as president, to succeed Susilo Bam-bang Yudhoyono, who completes the allowed two, five-year terms in October.

Jokowi’s rise to become Jakarta governor and common touch made him an early favourite. But he faces a formidable challenge from Prabowo, who emerged as a serious contender after securing the backing of the country’s second biggest party Golkar last month.

Opinion polls show Jokowi is still ahead, but one recent survey indicated up to 40 percent of voters remain undecided.

Prabowo is seen as presenting a more nationalistic vision of the Indonesian economy. Indonesia’s stock market and the rupiah fell on news that parties backing Prabowo won a slightly bigger share of votes in the April 9 parliamentary poll than pro-Jokowi parties.

In Jokowi’s talk on Wednesday, he

was less vague than earlier on his eco-nomic policies, but he gave no spe-cifics on matters like how he would finance ports he wants to build.

The candidate’s proposal to sim-plify bureaucratic procedures for investment was welcomed by Sofjan Wanandi, the chairman of the Indone-sian Employers Association.

“He is saying exactly what we need,” said Wanandi. “Cut all the red tape and lower the high costs like lo-gistics to make (Indonesian) products more competitive. We hope he wins so he can implement these ideas.”

Jokowi’s team says that as presi-dent, he would address the pressing issue of Indonesia’s ballooning fuel subsidy bill, which currently leaves little budget money left for much-needed infrastructure projects.

Ichsan said there is no plan to re-vise a law that caps the fiscal deficit at 3 percent of gross domestic product “so it’s implied that reform of the energy sector and the fuel subsidies will have to happen.”

A resolution would be a big win for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, while North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would in return get the lift-ing of some sanctions and possibly increased humanitarian aid. The U.S. and South Korea, however, fear Abe could weaken diplomatic efforts for North Korea to abandon its nuclear program by focusing too much on the bilateral abduction issue.

Tokyo is as concerned as Washing-ton and Seoul are about North Korea’s development of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles, but the abduc-tions have been the biggest thorn in its relations with Pyongyang. For many Japanese, the tales of a child vanishing on her way home from school, couples grabbed off beaches and tourists nabbed while abroad have put a human face on what they see as the brutality and hostility of the North Korean regime.

Abe, known for his hawkish na-

tionalism and his hard-line stance to-ward Pyongyang, has made the abduc-tions his cause celebre. He vowed in announcing the new deal that he will not relent until “the day the families of the abduction victims can hold their loved ones in their arms.”

After it confirms North Korea has set up a committee to begin investigat-ing the abductions, Japan says it will consider humanitarian aid for North Korea and lifting some sanctions. To see that the work gets done, Japan wants to send officials to Pyongyang to monitor its progress.

The negotiations with Japan could provide important clues into Kim’s leadership style and priorities. Though he has led the country since his father, Kim Jong Il, died in late 2011, he has spent much of his time consolidating power and following through on his father’s unfinished business. But some experts in Japan believe that, follow-ing the purge of his once powerful

uncle last year, Kim is now in a better position to make bolder decisions of his own.

“His style seems to be much less calculated than his father,” said Atsu-shi Isozaki, a North Korea expert who teaches at Japan’s Keio University. “He seems to be decisive, and tends to make his decisions quickly. He also seems to make rather radical decisions. I think we could see some action taken very soon.”

Isozaki said the lifting of the Japa-nese sanctions, which are separate from U.N. sanctions imposed on North Korea over its nuclear pro-gram, will not have a major impact on the North’s moribund economy but could lead to an increased stream of cash from Japan’s large ethnic Korean community through travel and tourism, which Pyongyang is trying hard to promote. “From North Korea’s perspective, that’s signifi-cant,” he said.

KATMANDU, Nepal — More than 2,000 people, mostly students wearing their school uniforms, gathered in Nepal’s capital on Thurs-day in a bid to set a world record for the largest tree hug. Parliament members, office workers and even Buddhist monks also took part in the attempt, joining the students at a park on the outskirts of Katmandu. The participants said they were trying to set the record to celebrate World Environment Day by spreading awareness about the importance of trees.

“Our goal is to set a new world record and at the same time spread the message that trees are important for the environment and ev-eryone,” said Thaneswor Guragai, who coordinated the event. The previous Guinness World Record for most people hugging trees simultaneously was 936 people in Portland, Oregon, last July.

Participants on Thursday held trees for two minutes as volunteers beat drums at the National Martyrs and Peace Park, on the northeast edge of Katmandu. “We are gathered here in our attempt to save the forests and make people aware that trees and forests are important for human civilization,” said Rajan K.C., who was among the 20 Parliament members hugging the trees and monitoring the event.

One of the participating students, ninth-grader Ganga Pandit, said she had planted samplings in the past but felt it was important to join the campaign to save existing trees.

The organizers of Thursday’s event will send photos, video, a signed statement from the Parliament members who were there and the names of the participants to Guinness, which will decide whether to recognize the feat as a new record. Guragai said it would take about two months to get a recognition certificate from Guinness.

Hope, risk surround Japan-N. Korea abduction dealAssociated Press

TOKYO — Japan and North Korea appear to be on the verge of a breakthrough on a bi-zarre legacy of the Cold War, a secret, government-ordered program that led to the abduction of more than a dozen and possibly several hundred Japanese citizens in the 1970s and 80s by North Korean infiltrators and spies. After three days of talks in Stockholm last week, North Korea agreed to open a new investigation into the abductions, the biggest step forward Tokyo and Pyongyang have made in years. Questions over the fate of the abductees — some believed to still be alive — have kept relations in a deep freeze.

Even, the search results to the Revenue Service and Regional Asset Management, particularly in the land and property tax (PBB) as well as land and building acquisition fee (BPHTB) on Tuesday, there was a taxpayer on behalf of Yeannie Christianti at Kampung Toyapakeh having two hectares of land. In addition to coastal areas, the hilly areas had also been plotted. Like at Batukandik, there were 850 plots of land covering an area of 6,129,703 square meters, at Batumadeg 872 plots of land covering an area of 5,387,874 square meters, at Klumpu 954 plots of land covering an area of 6,900,427 square meters up to Bunga Mekar with 1,248 plots of land covering an area of 9,181,388 square meters.

Regent Suwirta did not dismiss if a lot of land in Nusa Gede had been plotted by investors. However, his party insisted on apply-ing strict rules for the investment. Even, his party would not issue principle permit before the investors met diverse requirements of local government in anticipation of adverse effects of tourism development in accordance with the detailed spatial plan (RDTR) of the Nusa Penida tourism area. Even, Suwirta claimed to have a team of tourism consultant.

“Investors should have a clear intention. They must tell about the land utilization and when to start building. By all means, we do not want the development will be dormant and breaks any rules. Failing to agree our terms, we will clearly reject it. County government must learn from the conditions of Lembongan and Jungut Batu,” he said while adding that had not yet issued any principle permit, though many investors had submitted it.

Additionally, in terms of regulation the regent also claimed to have allocated the budget for detailed spatial plan (RDTR) review in the regional amended budget. Faster completion of this regula-tion would make the investment designed more easily to come and accelerate the development. Other than Jungut Batu and Lembon-gan, according to him, the arrangement of other tourist resort was still enabled. However, both regions were increasingly difficult to manage because the violation in the surrounding areas had been long massive. Such condition had lasted for dozens of years. “To-day, tourism cannot not only rely on nature without the touch of government. As consequence, it is required a breakthrough that can generate, develop and organize it,” he said. (gik)

If that gave Ferrer hope that he could join Robin Soderling as the only men to have beaten the eight-times champion at Roland Garros, Nadal quickly squashed those dreams into the red dust as he went on a 10-game rampage en route to inflicting a 4-6 6-4 6-0 6-1 defeat on his countryman.

While Nadal improved his mind-boggling French Open win-loss record to 64-1, Murray was relieved to silence the pantomime boos that greeted his arrival on Philippe Chatrier Court. As dusk fell over Paris, his 6-4 6-1 4-6 1-6 6-0 win over Gael Monfils not only earned him a place in his second semi-final in Paris, but also prolonged France’s 31-year wait for a men’s champion.

It was not long before Murray’s thoughts turned to the challenge that lies ahead. “Rafa has good memories on this court so it will be tough to play him,” said the British seventh seed, who has not won a title since triumphing at Wimbledon last July.

While celebrations were kept to a minimum among the men who

were simply glad to finish their matches under fading light, Andrea Petkovic joyously planted a kiss on her racket frame after she battled through drizzle and swirling winds to set up an unlikely semi-final showdown with Romanian Simona Halep.

TWISTED SOUL

The 28th seeded German came close to turning her back on ten-nis a year ago after being hobbled by back, ankle and knee injuries but 12 months on she was getting up close and personal with her racket after blowing Italy’s Sara Errani off court with a 6-2 6-2 win. “I never kissed my racket before in my life. I don’t know what happened to me. I was just overwhelmed by emotion. I had no boy to kiss, so I kissed my racket,” laughed the bubbly 26-year-old after reaching her first grand slam semi-final.

A match featuring 10 breaks and 32 unforced errors was never going to be pretty and a three-hour rain delay left Roland Garros feeling

more like a winter wonderland as temperatures dipped to a chilly 10 degrees Celsius. But Petkovic won the points that mattered. A contest that started with spectators huddled under blankets on Philippe Chatrier Court ended with Petk-ovic beaming in delight as Errani slapped a backhand wide.

After becoming the first Ger-man woman to reach the last four in Paris since Steffi Graf in 1999, a player who is influenced by the writings of a number of philosophers said she would now “like to call Freud and ask him what he thinks about... my twisted soul.” Such a thought is unlikely to trouble Halep, who will be more interested in concentrating on Petkovic’s tennis skills after she too reached her first major semi-final with an equally scrappy 6-2 6-2 win over 2009 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.

“It was a perfect day for me,” said Halep, who is bidding to be-come the first Romanian woman to win the claycourt major since her manager Virginia Ruzici achieved the feat in 1978.

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Ster-ling agreed Wednesday to sign off on selling the team he’s owned for 33 years to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 bil-lion, bringing the possibility of a resolution to weeks of rumors, uncertainty and looming possibilities for legal action.

The agreement hadn’t been officially signed Wednesday af-ternoon, according to an individual with knowledge of the ne-gotiations who wasn’t authorized to discuss them publicly. But Donald Sterling’s attorney, Maxwell Blecher, said he “has made an agreement with the NBA to resolve all their differences.” Sterling gave his consent to a deal that was negotiated by his wife, Shelly Sterling, to sell the team, Blecher said.

Representatives for Shelly Sterling and the NBA declined to comment.

The agreement was an about face for Donald Sterling, who just last week filed a $1 billion suit against the NBA in federal court alleging the league violated his constitutional rights by relying on information from an “illegal” recording that publicized racist remarks he made to a girlfriend. It also said the league committed a breach of contract by fining Sterling $2.5 million and that it vio-lated antitrust laws by trying to force a sale. Blecher said that as a result of the agreement, the federal suit will now be dismissed.

Sterling’s comments to V. Stiviano included telling her to not bring black people to Clippers games, specifically mentioning Hall of Famer Magic Johnson. They resulted in a storm of outrage from the public and players and even prompted President Barack Obama to comment on what he called Sterling’s “incredibly of-fensive racist statements.”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver ultimately decided to ban Donald Sterling for life and began efforts to force Sterling to sell the team.

For weeks, Donald Sterling said through his attorneys that he would fight the NBA’s decisions to try to force his ouster as a team owner. But last week Shelly Sterling utilized her author-ity as sole trustee of The Sterling Family Trust, which owns the Clippers, to take bids for the team and ultimately negotiate a deal with Ballmer.

Ballmer beat out bids by Guggenheim Partners and a group including former NBA All-Star Grant Hill. Ballmer made more than an hour-long personal visit to Shelly Sterling’s Malibu home last week and laid out his plan.

PARIS - There is not much that spooks Rafa Nadal at the French Open but David Ferrer managed to do just that - for 49 bewitching minutes - before watching in despair as his fellow Spaniard turned into a man possessed to set up a semi-final with Andy Murray. Facing a rival who had beaten him the last time they had met, Nadal could barely believe his eyes on Wednesday when he dropped his first set of the tournament at 7:36 p.m. local time.

TABANNA - Soka Beach is located at Antap village, Selemadeg subdistrict, Tabanan County, right on the main road con-necting Jembrana to Denpasar. The distance from Denpasar is about 45 km and about 84 km from Gilimanuk. Density of vehicles passing through the route is very high from the morning till night because it is the only road connecting Java to Bali. On the east of the Soka Beach lies a cave under the rock cliff, called Bulungdaya Cave inhabited by thousands of swallows. On the western side lies coconut grove along the coastline. It of-fers a beautiful landscape with black sandy beach, while on the far west is bounded by verdant hills concatenated into one with Mount Batukaru in the north. In the east, visitors will be able to see the Mount Agung and Mount Batukaru while in the south spreads the Indonesian Ocean.

Beautiful panorama merging with the atmosphere of the hills in the southern tip of Bali as well as the pounding waves is ca-pable of keeping people away from hustles and bustles. So, it will unsurprisingly make them more convenient and peaceful. Beach panorama offered by Soka Beach is indeed very exotic and romantic that can touch the heart for those visiting the location.

“It’s a great joy to score for England,” Rooney said after the 2-2 draw at the Sun Life Stadium. “I was obviously pleased to score to get us back in the game.” Rooney’s 39th international goal canceled out Enner Valencia’s eighth-minute header, nudging the ball over the line after Rickie Lambert hit the post. Lambert found the net himself six minutes into the second half after 20-year-old Ross Barkley weaved his way through the defense with ease.

But Michael Arroyo powered in equalizer from distance in the 70th in his team’s final game before playing Switzerland at the World Cup on June 15. “We have to improve aspects of our game to be ready for the start of the World Cup,” Ecuador coach Reinaldo Rueda said.

Both teams ended this feisty encounter with 10 men at the Sun Life Stadium after Raheem Sterling was dismissed in the 79th minute for a sliding challenge on Ecuador winger Antonio Valencia, who saw red for pushing the Englishman and going to grab his throat. The players will not be suspended for World Cup matches.

“I am sorry for the fight with Sterling,” Valencia said. “I apologized to the team after the match and the coach.” England coach Hodgson accepted Sterling’s challenge was fierce, but believes it didn’t con-stitute a red card. “He played the ball and accelerated into the ball,” Hodgson said.” I’m disappointed with Antonio’s reaction, grabbing the player.”

Hodgson’s greater concern was midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamber-lain coming off with suspected ligament damage in his right knee — just 10 days before England’s World Cup opener against Italy.

Alberto Zaccheroni has done his best over four years in charge of Japan to dismiss the stereotype of Italian football men being focused on defence. The Italian coach has transformed the Blue Samurai into a high-tempo attacking unit full of flair and capable of cutting open and scoring against the toughest of oppositions.

That exciting play is thanks to the exploits of playmakers Shinji Ka-gawa and Keisuke Honda and is ably supported by forward thinking full backs Yuto Nagatomo and Atsuto Uchida. However, it comes at the cost of clean sheets. Four goals were conceded against Uruguay and Italy last year, three against Brazil and China, and they also suffered upsets against Belarus, Serbia, Bulgaria and Jordan.

That has taken some of the shine off Zaccheroni’s early achievements in his first foray into international management, which was greeted by some scepticism in Japan.

While fans had hoped that Marcelo Bielsa or Manuel Pellegrini would succeed Takeshi Okada, who had stepped down after a last-16 exit at the 2010 World Cup, they offered guarded optimism at the unveiling of Zaccheroni. The Italian had ended a three-year spell out of the game by taking charge of Juventus for an unsuccessful four-month period which ended in May 2010.

He had made his name at Udinese with some innovative tactics before joining AC Milan and leading them to the Serie A title in 1999 with a 3-4-3 formation that he has experimented with in Japan. The Italian reverted to a 4-2-3-1 formation when he led Japan to the Asian Cup title in January 2011 but has attempted modifications amid its failings against tougher opposition arranged at his request by the JFA.

Grumbles have come from the stands at his persistence with perceived favourites, with Yasuyuki Konno continuing in central defence despite the problems of the back line and his club side Gamba Osaka being relegated to the second division. But his inclusion of in-form 31-year-old striker Yoshito Okubo after a two exile has seen more positive feedback.

With the recent struggles of South Korea and Australia prior to the firing and hiring of coaches, tests have been few and far between in Asia with Zaccheroni able to brush off a shock loss in Jordan to easily qualify. As with most of the 32 coaches in Brazil, though, the acid test will be results at the finals, with Japan eyeing a first World Cup quarter-final in their fifth consecutive appearance.

Japan have been given a favourable draw in Group C alongside Co-lombia, Greece and Ivory Coast, with Zaccheroni talking confidently of progression. His contract status is a mystery and he has been linked with numerous jobs in Italy, which he has continued to downplay.

A first last-eight appearance could help return his reputation to its pre-vious heady heights in Italy and leave the Blue Samurai looking for his replacement for their Asian Cup defence in Australia in January.

SANTIAGO, Chile — Arturo Vidal made his much-awaited return from injury as Chile beat Northern Ireland 2-0 in its final World Cup warm-up match on Wednesday. Vidal, who underwent knee surgery just a month ago, made an unexpected appearance as a 76th-minute substitute, and immediately made an impact.

Two minutes after coming on, the Juven-tus midfielder made a fine pass to Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez lobbed the ball to striker Eduardo Vargas, who headed in the first goal of the match. Sanchez made another inch-perfect pass four minutes later that Mauricio Pinilla sent into the net to seal the win at the Elias Figueroa Stadium in the port city of Valparaiso.

“The decision to let him play was agreed with both the medical team and Arturo. It was important to let him play some min-utes and we got a chance to see him again,” Chile’s coach Jorge Sampaoli said after the

match.“Arturo had a very short recovery and

he came were we need him to, thanks to his boldness,” Sampaoli said. He always wanted to play this game, and although we had some doubts, he cleared them all. Tomorrow he’ll have to get into the rhythm of things so he can be in the opener...It no longer depends on his knee, but on the level for competition.”

Vidal underwent knee surgery on May 7 and had been in doubt for Chile’s World Cup opener against Australia on June 13. Chile also faces defending champion Spain and 2010 finalist Netherlands in Group B.

Throughout the match, midfielder Jorge Valdivia orchestrated Chile’s attack and created good scoring opportunities that were denied by superb saves by goalkeeper Roy Carroll.

Chile continued to struggle to find a way past a defiant Northern Ireland defense until Sanchez, Vidal and Vargas showed the class which Chile will rely upon at the World Cup, which kicks off on June 12.

RIO DE JANEIRO — World Cup visitors, welcome to Brazil, land of soccer, sun and sky-high prices. Unlike nearby Latin Ameri-can nations where a tourist’s U.S. dollar or European Union euro seemingly stretches forever, Brazil is astoundingly expensive.

If one’s budget isn’t immedi-ately busted by the flight or the hotel, it will soon be done in by the $10 caipirinha cocktail, the $17 cheeseburger or the $35 pepperoni pizza. And those are the prices city-dwelling Brazilians saw even before the World Cup set off a new standard of sticker shock.

“Prices in Rio are absurd,” Maria Anda, a Norwegian artist who has lived in Brazil for a year, said while enjoying the sunset on Ipanema beach. “I still like it. It’s worth be-ing here, but it’s not paradise.”

The dizzying prices are referred to here as the “Custo Brasil,” or “Brazil Cost” — the mixture of high taxes and steep import tariffs, combined with bad infrastructure, a dose of inefficiency and a thick shot of bureaucracy.

Demand leading up to a big event like the World Cup naturally raises prices. But, since costs already were high to begin with, tourists should prepare to dig deep into their wal-lets and not be too miffed to receive goods or services of inferior quality, said Rafael Alcadipani, a business administration professor at the

MONTEVIDEO - Striker Edinson Cavani and substitute Christian Stuani scored to fire Uruguay to a 2-0 win over Slovenia in their final World Cup warmup at the Centenario on Wednes-day. Cavani nipped between the centre backs to head home a fine cross into the box from the left by Diego Forlan and Stuani scored his second goal in two games in the 75th minute follow-ing his effort in Friday’s 1-0 win over Northern Ireland.

“I wasn’t too convinced by our at-tack in the first half, in the second the team looked more compact,” Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez told reporters. “The ‘Master’ (Tabarez) asked me to work on the right wing and get into the

box whenever I could ... I hope at the World Cup I can carry on like this,” Stuani said.

Centre back Diego Godin returned to the side after missing the Northern Ireland match, completing a lineup that may well be repeated for Uruguay’s World Cup opener against Costa Rica in Fortaleza on June 14. Top striker Luis Suarez was again missing as he recovers from knee surgery and may only be fit for the second Group D match against England in Sao Paulo on June 19 at the earliest. Uruguay also face Italy in Natal on June 24.

“We have great hopes of (Suarez) playing at the World Cup. I wouldn’t assure it will be in the first match but nor are we ruling that out,” Tabarez said. Uruguay struggled at first to gen-

erate chances against a tough Slovenian side who gave them a few scares on the break with Andraz Kirm and Rajko Rotman coming close to scoring.

When the 50,000 crowd at the packed Centenario, scene of Uru-guay’s victory over Argentina in the first World Cup final in 1930, became impatient, they chanted Suarez’s name. However, right back Maxi Pereira almost put Uruguay ahead when his shot skimmed the bar mid-way through the first half from a fine through-ball by Godin.

The Uruguayans’ superior skill made the difference in the end and Stu-ani secured the win by tapping home the ball at a corner when it ran loose with goalkeeper Samir Handanovic under challenge from Cavani.

(gik)

(kmb16)

Establishment-backed Republican candi-dates prevailed in other key primary races around the country Tuesday, as the party lead-ership continued its mostly successful effort to put mainstream candidates on the ballot in the November general elections.

dead hanging himself on one of the trees existing in the area of Kunang-Kunang Villa at Gonggang ham-let, Puhu village, Ubud subdistrict. The foreigner has long wandered in Ubud and Payangan area. In addition, the victim has also long suffered depres-sion as having no friends and relatives in Bali.

Based on information compiled, the foreigner was known to commit suicide around 06:30 a.m. by security guard of the villa, Made Padayasa. Residents and police came to location after dis-covery of the foreigner hanging himself. He was found dead as hanged by a rope on a champak tree. Based on the results of police investigation at crime scene, the officers found no official identity of the victim. However, from the victim’s bag were just found some photos, note book and expired credit card on behalf of Peter G Randle, 65, a Christian from Australia.

From the description of residents, all this time the foreigner was wandering and living nomadically. Formerly, the victim had worked at the villa. Secu-

rity guard of the villa, I Made Padayasa, said that within the past few days, the victim often sneaked into the villa area to get a Wi-Fi signal to surf.

The victim also briefly mentioned if he once helped build the villa. Additionally, the champak tree where he hanged himself was planted by him, explained Padayasa.

With permission from the Chief of Gianyar Po-lice, the Chief of Payangan Police, Agung Wiranata Kusuma, told media crews about the results of the examination against the victim’s body where it was not found any signs of violence. While waiting for coordination with the Australian consulate, the victim’s body was evacuated to Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar. “Perhaps, it will be made an autopsy to the victim’s body to know the cause of his death,” he explained.

(kmb)

(kmb27)

In harmony with the seriousness of local government to develop the region, the investors are now also directing their investment at the three-island group, ranging from coastal to hill areas.

Ironically, amidst such development, the government intervention remains minimal.

As consequence, the investment grows excessively and violates the rules of various aspects in investing. The two-island group namely the Ceningan Lembongan has become concrete example of that fact. Virtually the entire coastal ter-ritories have been crowded by accommodation and tourism facilities. Having been inadequate to target coastal area, the investors also increasingly target hill areas. As a result, the

hills are no longer green but full of tourist accommodations. Although various forms of violations have occurred before the eyes, local governments seem powerless to take action.

Conditions on the two-island group were acknowledged by the Regent of Klungkung, Nyoman Suwirta. Reflecting from dark past experience, his party was then focusing on keeping another island having not been untouched by tour-ism development. Regent Suwirta recently recognized if the government intervention was minimal in the development of tourism of Nusa Penida. Since he filled in the position as the regent of Klungkung, in line with the seriousness to develop the group of the islands, his party also recognized if the flow of investments from investors increasingly targeted the coastal to hill areas in the region.

The data of the National Land Agency (BPN) of Klung-kung show that thousands of plots of land in the coastal areas have become proprietary. For example, at Batununggul region, there have been 1,418 plots of land covering an area

of 23,962,271 square meters, 20,918,724 plots at Kutampi covering 1,387 square meters, 489 lots at Kutampi Kaler with an area of 34,561,263 square meters and Ped with 2,456 plots with an area of 13,045,588 square meters.

Unfortunately, it is unknown whoever owns the land. The Administration Division Head of the BPN Klungkung, I Ketut Iriana, said on Tuesday (Jun 6), the data server along with the land owners had been transferred to central BPN. “Data server of the BPN has just been removed to central BPN in November last year. Consequently, we do no longer hold any data,” he explained.

Lately, the land ownership also increasingly developed at a number of other coastal areas. For instance, at Suana the land property rights reached 1,098 plots of land covering an area of 6,531,799 square meters, at Pejukutan 861 plots of land covering an area of 5,234,514 square meters, at Tanglad 386 plots of land covering an area of 3,726,241 square meters, at Sekartaji 316 plots of land covering an area of 2,418,133 meters square and at Sakti village 1,075 plots of land cover-ing 8,351,161 square meters. Meanwhile, the Toya Pakeh village included in the resort development and protection also increasingly became a target where it currently had 15 plots of land property rights.
