A: If you have been given access to IHS services you should navigate to the energy
home page, insert your username which is your corporate email address and then select
send me new password. A new password will be emailed to you. If your email address is
not recognized then you have not been registered to our system and in that case please
contact your IHS Markit account manager.
Q: Are there any restrictions on where I can access EDIN?
A: No – you can access EDIN from any computer with an internet connection. A
notification will be sent to your official email account to notify you that any spatial
exports you have requested are ready to collect. Please note, however, that you are
responsible for any materials that you download to the PC.
Q: Can I share my login details with colleagues?
A: No – your login details are unique & should not be shared with colleagues. If you
do, not only will you be breaking the terms of the license agreement with IHS, but you
will also experience difficulties accessing the system. If your organization requires
additional people to have access to EDIN, please contact your local IHS representative.

Q: How often is the data behind EDIN updated?
A: The IHS international E&P and Midstream content within EDIN is updated weekly.
Therefore, you can be sure that you are accessing the latest information available.
Q: Is the data accurate?
A: IHS is committed to providing high-quality information you need to make good
decisions. You’ve told us that information quality is the single most important asset that
IHS delivers, and we’ve listened. We publish our quality goals and update our metrics
for each goal quarterly so that you can monitor our progress in addressing your quality
concerns. To find out more about our Information Quality initiatives and goals for:
Correctness, Currency, Completeness, and Consistency, please go to the following
website –

Q: How can we guarantee the content in reports is accurate and complete?
A: EDIN report cards contain a bibliography section which can be used to cross
check data validity. All entities in the database are tagged with a unique ID which allows
us to QC against source information should you have a query around data quality. In
most cases where a query arises we will put you in touch with the relevant data expert
who will be able to answer your questions and provide clarity around source materials

Spatial Exports
Q: Can I export the information?
A: Yes, most data types can be exported in a number of GIS / industry specific
formats. These formats include:
- File GeoDatabase
- ESRI Shape File
- MapInfo TAB
- Google Earth (KML & KMZ)
Information can also be exported as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Reports can also be
generated in either Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF formats.
Q: I selected the spatial export feature, but can’t find the email?
A: Please check your ‘junk’ folder, as sometimes there are business rules in pace
that direct these emails into that folder.
Q: Can I save spatial searches?
A: No. However, you can generate a spatial polygon and upload the entity IDs to
create a saved search
Q: I have received the email for the spatial exports, but I am unable to access the
data file, as it says my session has expired?
A: To retrieve the content for the spatial exports, you have to be logged in to EDIN.
The email link is valid for 24 hours, after which you will be unable to access the files.
Q: What is the maximum number of items that can be exported spatially?
A: The maximum number of allowable features for export is 70,000. Under the
item count section, items above this will be listed in red. For KML/KMZ the limit is less.
For points, it is 5,000 and for polygons it is 1,000.
Q: Why is it that every time I try to download content from a spatial export, it says
my session has timed-out/is no longer valid?
A: This is likely due to the fact that the web browser you are using is not your
default browser. For example, when you select the link in the email, it tries to access
the file using your default web browser. So if you are using Chrome, but your default
browser is IE, it tries to start a new session. You can either change your default
